"Comic Title Characters" + "Two Names" = only Calvin & Hobbes came to mind for me. So, instaget.
Good point. What other comic strips even meet that criterion? Hi & Lois?

Re: Tuesday, January 22, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Calvin & Hobbes wasn't my pre-call for the category, but it was a worthy choice. Other obvious possibilities were Doonesbury, Cathy, Ziggy, Dick Tracy, Mary Worth, Hagar the Horrible, The Wizard of Id... and I'll stop there. I've already thought of twice as many more and don't feel like typing.

The word Bond was the answer to a clue twice today. I wonder how often there is an answer that is used twice in the same episode in two different categories.
Well, there's this game:

Do you prefer corrections submitted here or via the archive? ($400 clue in AGNATOMY has "call" where it probably should be "called".)

Willy Brandt is German. Pick Germany, East Germany or West Germany. He's a famous leader and J! players will/should have some familiarity. Ostpolitik gives you Ost=East for the extra hint.
That's great and exactly what I did. Problem is the correct response was WEST Germany.

My favorite clue of the game:

PITY THE FOOL WHO DOESN'T KNOW MR. T MET BOY GEORGE IN A 1986 EPISODE OF THIS SHOW

Since we're allowed to omit leading articles, I shouted out "What is Team?"

Re: Tuesday, January 15, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I didn't see FJ as a coin flip. The quote very strongly outlines Hoover's policy of non-intervention. It's the policy that lost him the election against FDR. It's the polar opposite of FDR's policy of extensive government help to end the Depression. If that quote had somehow come out of FDR's mouth,...

We're talking Tiombi Prince vs Ben Parker vs Lynsey McMullen, right? I've still got that one. I'll upload it to my Google Drive and post a link when it's ready.

Re: Friday, January 11, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

"B" composer and "Hungarian Dances" led me to Brahms. If I see that same clue in a year I'll probably miss it again. The clue was "This Hungarian's 1923 'Dance Suite,'" not "This composer's 'Hungarian Dances.'" Yep. I rang in intending to say Brahms, but the 1923 assured me I would be wrong. So who...

I have zero idea how 'Fibber McGee' triggered 'Molly' in my brain. Seriously. None. And yet I picked it up... But on the show, would you have rung in? Or would you have stood there wondering why your brain was saying "Molly"? I think I would've gone for it. It wasn't a vague association eit...

The headshake at young people today was crickets heard for Fibber McGee’s partner. The Christie play also going TS surprised me more as that appeared in a clue last season. Watch the show people. It helps. I have zero idea how 'Fibber McGee' triggered 'Molly' in my brain. Seriously. None. And yet I...

Three out of the five composers got pronounced incorrectly. Wagner with w sound rather than a v, Verdi with the first syllable rhyming with fur rather than fair, and Haydn to rhyme with maiden rather than Biden. So of course Alex only asks for a repeat on one response in the category--the correctly ...

I wonder if the anthropology clue about Java Man wasn't anachronistic. I doubt if it gets much attention in modern biology courses, and if so, just as a footnote being named as "homo erectus". I hope they don't keep wasting time teaching about Piltdown man. Or creationism, for that matter. I think ...

Anyone else's gut instinct for FJ Hanoi? I quickly got the Western Hemisphere hint and changed to Havana, but the association to the "Hanoi Hilton" was instinctive. Looks like I'm unusual in NOT remembering (I'd say never having heard of, but the archive proves me wrong) the Samoa connection but guessing Stevenson anyway. Scottish author with an adventurous streak in the latter half of the 19th century. RLS just fit.
