Re: Thursday, January 28, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Last Night at the Viper Room , the biography mentioned in the River Phoenix clue, was written by Season 16 contestant Gavin Edwards . Also, the persnicketiness behind the Invisible Man / The Invisible Man ruling is completely unnecessary and frankly off-putting. "Wells" was given in the clue, so wh...

Re: Thursday, January 28, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Not surprisingly, this was the first regular-play game to feature two contestants who had won four or more previous times. There was a possibility that it could have happened back in 1994 had Dan Seiden gotten this FJ clue right, as Tom Nichols was brought back the following Monday for another chanc...

Re: Missing Final Jeopardy! for improper phrasing

Here's one that Mark gets credit for: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=4601#final_jeopardy_round! In his book, Harry Eisenberg pegged the change to the latter part of Season 6 (1990). He also said that "[...] the viewers have never been informed of the change and so they must think our ...

Anyone see something wrong in this clue? "Monarchos in 2001 & this horse in 1973, still the record holder, are the only horses to run the Kentucky Derby in under 2 minutes." The response taken (Secretariat) is still correct even if the clue were given properly, but the clue should actually have rea...

Alex mentioned the game from the day before had a bad J round and a bad FJ round. He was right about that. The total score going into FJ was -$200. Is that a record? Paging cheezyguy. That is one of only two games in the Archive where the contestants had a negative total going into DJ; in the other...

Austin (Texas) & (Ginger) Rogers.
Show #7286 had a clue about Austin (Texas) immediately following a clue about (Buck) Rogers.

That game was the one where Buzzy Cohen (who beat Austin in the ToC) dethroned Andrew Pau (who lost to Austin in the ToC)! :o

Re: Form of a Question Question

I am certain I remember this exact phrasing -- "Is it X?" -- being accepted on a show within the last 15 years. It was a female contestant and I believe the clue was a DD. No doubt some Archive wizard can find it. Is it "Is it oak?" ? Possibly, or it might be the one Bob referred to; see if you can...

I should have pointed out that the Security Council and New England clues were both Daily Doubles and were from the early seasons of the show, as were most of those examples. The only five-part response that they've asked for during the last fifteen years has been the five Ws.
