Maybe I'm just hearing things, but I could swear I even heard a judge or two shout "No" after Emma rang in with "Asterisk".
You weren't just hearing things. I heard it too and was shocked at the DD that there wasn't a correction.

Re: Monday, June 3, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

James must be relieved in one sense: Losing means that he will get paid now instead of having to wait longer until a longer run ends. Do we know that this is true -- that if his run had been longer, his winnings would have been withheld until he lost? I thought that when Ken's run spanned seasons, ...

What a horrible guess of The Deer Hunter in that 2006 game. The schlub who responded with that was probably never heard from again on J!
Isn't there supposed to be a test that weeds those people out?

I ruined my chance for a perfect week on FJ's by saying The Deer Stalker. :( So close . . .
I'm pretty sure it's The Deer Hunter, hbomb.

Re: JBoard Moderation Discussion

I don't mind the criticism of wagers and strategy, it's more the tone of the criticism. "That wager was idiotic" is almost as bad as "you're an idiot for making that wager", though it's slightly less personal. The "Wagering Vikings" thread had a point about the tone of the board. Right on. Idiotic ...

Re: JBoard Moderation Discussion

It doesn't make it right, but it's bound to happen. You get your 15 minutes of fame (or a couple hours for you more successful ones) and everything that goes with it, positive and negative. I think it is important to tell future contestants that they should expect that, and if they can't deal with ...

Re: JBoard Moderation Discussion

The answer isn't necessarily more moderation. Having real, genuine, honest discussions does NOT preclude decorum. I agree that a person appearing on national television does open them up to being discussed throughout the nation. Just the same, that doesn't make it right to ream someone for their str...

Re: Friday, May 16, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I thought Ken's response in the interview about egging on Roger yesterday to make the TDD ("Do it, do it!") was a little disingenuous, saying he was acting as a fan -- c'mon, like he didn't have an interest in Roger blowing his sizable wad at that point; otoh, Brad was probably sincere when he said...

Re: Toughest wagering situation ever?

In the 9000-6500-6500 scenario, I don't think the 0 wager is a gimme for one of the trailers. I think a 6500 is also rational, the same way it would be in a tied two-player game. This is a scenario where comfort with the category could affect your wager. I think trailers should generally assume that...

Re: Toughest wagering situation ever?

I agree that quarterfinals with wild cards are a tough scenario, and I'd expand what you said above to include any tournament game when the "right" thing to do is wager for a tie (thinking of the Jeff Spoeri/Celeste DiNucci/Christian Haines SF), just because of the looming tiebreaker (and in some s...

Re: Toughest wagering situation ever?

My vote as of now would be the TOC semi between Larissa Kelly, Cora Peck, and Pastor Dave, where Dave was in a Faith Love scenario. Dave should normally wager for the tie, and in fact he did, however since it's a tournament, does he want to do that normally? Or does he go one way or the other and r...

4/3 Spoiler: May I please be "KJL #152" (or whatever the right number would be)? ETA: Sorry for the unmarked spoiler. He won 74 games and was second in a two player FJ in his 75th game. That makes 149. He was second ahead of Jerome in the UTOC and second ahead of Brad in the Watson games. You were ...

ETA: Yes, I feel that Malthus was pessimistic, but I also know in my heart of hearts that he's British and therefore probably not German. Darn tootin'! Re: Thursday, April 3, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Instaget for me because I was on the receiving end of about 5,000 rads of Cobalt-60 back in 1981. One tends to remember such things. I assume you mean 5000 millirads? 5000 rads will make you very, very dead (heck, 500 rads will make you very, very dead). Nope. 5000 rads in a very narrow, focused be...
