Re: Friday, April 10, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Alex earned his win with intelligence and strategy, and I enjoyed watching the game. Way to go. :) There are always too many backseat-players when it comes to the Jeopardy! audience- forget 'em. It isn't just about knowing trivia, but about playing the game. Though anyone who has ever played Alex th...

Re: Wednesday, March 28, 2012 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)

'Classical Mixup' was bound for disaster. On the Will.ia.m one, I knew the pieces of the answer, but I wasn't even certain how they wanted it phrased. They took Will.i.am tell, but wanted plain Ravel and Pachelbel? Eh. Missed FJ. Felt like I ought to know this one, but just couldn't pull it and asso...

Re: Deuteronomy, deuterium -- same stuff?

Now ... how did you all miss "sit-up" when there was just a clue mentioning them not 30 seconds before? :D That's the point; it was just mentioned, and experience has told us that repeating topics within a single game are uncommon on the show. That's why I figured it couldn't be one of the three an...

Re: Online Test Discussion (Central), January 18, 2012

I think the reason a lot of people viewed the test as difficult was that there was a fair bit of pop culture with 2 questions about popular music, a recent tv show, and a recent movie. Thankfully those subjects are in my wheelhouse so I breezed through them. Definitely not the reason why I found it...

Re: Online Test Discussion (Central), January 18, 2012

I took the actual test for fun tonight. It felt a lot harder than last night's questions, but I wound up with 42 right, one less than I did yesterday. Completely wagged the country music question but it turned out to be right.

Re: Online Test Discussion (Eastern), January 17, 2012

Though I've heard 35/50, I'm convinced it's 40/50. I've taken the online test four times and passed it twice (including last year so I didn't take it this year). It's not that high, usually. They may choose a higher standard in a location with tons of potential auditioners with high scores, but com...

Re: Online Test Discussion (Eastern), January 17, 2012

43. I made a couple of dumb mistakes. I also busted up laughing mid-quiz because the helianthus question was from my game, one of the few I actually managed to buzz in on and answer. :)

Re: Friday, January 13, 2012 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)

Maine is the state known for lobster, not Mass. I'm from Massachusetts. They definitely have lobster fishing in Mass, and it's a popular food on the coast, but Mass isn't the lobster state, Maine is. Cheney can easily connect to beef, he's from Wyoming. I'm not saying JFK/LBJ isn't a legit response,...

Re: Friday, January 13, 2012 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)

I thought there were a ton of crappy questions tonight, and FJ was the worst. You can reason out that lobster usually points to New England, but my logic pointed toward the Bush family, who famously have a house in Kennebunkport, Maine. And beef au jus, is that supposed to point at something? LBJ wa...

Re: Tuesday, January 10, 2012 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)

"Baron Cohen" is the family name, just "Cohen" is wrong. He's like the opposite of Arthur Conan Doyle. ACD was born simply "Doyle" and Conan was his middle name that turned into a two-word last name at some point, probably as an affectation of sorts, and is now commonly accepted as his last name. Bu...

That cowboy dropped with style, though. And I found myself laughing at the drops eventually. I guess I'm just a bad person.

That was very entertaining, despite my initial misgivings about the humiliation side-show aspect of dropping.

Great beard!

And strut.

Re: Wednesday, January 4, 2012 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)

Yes, the wet hen thing, I've heard plenty.

Pretty easy boards today. FJ was straightforward. Dalton Trumbo is so often mentioned when black listing comes up that for me, it was just anti-war book + blacklist, and there ya go. I can see why people went for "AQotWF," though.

Re: Tuesday, December 27, 2011 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)

I don't think FJ was stupid at all. It makes sense. Women had been campaigning for the vote and weren't that far away from it. It's not like everyone decided to up and give them suffrage overnight- things had been changing for years. It was going to be either Wilson or FDR, and FDR just felt too lat...

It was a great game; just an unfortunate ending. :( I didn't come up with FJ either.
Beth is a really strong player. She'd have to be, to beat AcadamiaNut. Look forward to seeing more of her tomorrow.

Re: Wednesday, December 14, 2011 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)

It's... sad.... weird?!? That a series of novels about vampires and werewolves is probably one of the more realistic displays of how teenage girls actually behave currently out there. http://thehairpin.com/2011/11/our-bella-ourselves I can't even begin to explain the level of hate I have for that a...
