Yep. More MagA for me.
You need to get a hat with your rundle name on it.
Around here, I'd get shot if I wore it.
Make Andy great again!

Re: Jeopardy! drinking game

When on a DD wager, a contestant bets < clue amount and Alex says "[amount] only," and audience and player all know he's thinking 'Weenie.'

Re: LearnedLeague 76 - Official Thread

Besides the identical 6(5)-6(5) my opponent matched me with the same defense number for each question. That's a tie all right. Neither of us were able to get PROMOTION for the three points and the outright victory. We each gave a 1 for FAST MONEY while that played as the hardest Q at only 33%. Near...

I tried hydration.

Holy freakin' gyros, Batman--the LL msg board thread is already five pages long. Not sure lunch is long enough to digest all that.

Re: An Analysis of the Difficulty of the Recent Online Tests

42 Tue, 43 Wed, 47 Thu for me, taken in reverse order and all off the video for whatever that's worth (probably a few points per test). Was signed up to take Thursday's for real but plumb forgot... which can't bode well for either my mental acuity or how much I still want to be on.

46 for me, playing off the video. I missed neuron, The Alchemist (kept thinking The Alienist ), La Raza, and Tyler (my first answer, but then I changed to Polk). I keep quoting Lee Ann, maybe because we're no longer A Cont neighbor/rivals... Anyway, from the video (thanks yet again, Sue!) I got 42,...

Re: LearnedLeague 76 - Official Thread

Most days I glance at the questions when I wake up and ruminate a bit before answering later in the morning. Once or twice a season, like yesterday, I open them up and don't have to bother ruminating because I know them all immediately. It's a great feeling but also a little sad to be done so quick...

Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Central), March 7, 2018

Looks like off the video (thanks, Sue!) I managed 43 of these when a few guesses (Byzantium*, This Is Us , Plato, Chicago ) hit, plus a ra expo radical on 31. Missed 6, 15, 23, 29, 36, 40 and 45 with India, Po (when I couldn't think of the Tagus--missed the right bank clue), Artemis, Jiffy Pop, pupi...

Assuming imperil counts, looks like my only misses were Velasquez for Goya, submissive for recessive (c'mon, someone else thought of that as the counterpart to dominant), and a blank on Gaiman. Kind of a shame I forgot to log in and actually take it this year. Thanks for the video, Sue!

Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread

Yesterday was a defensive nightmare for most of myvRundle: lots of 8(5) and 4(3) scores. Lots of people undervalued the Blanchett/Hepburn question and others undervalued the math question. No kidding: three Dollys, and all three of us missed the Blanchett/Hepburn question. Thought I had a shot with...

66% league get rate and I'm still not connecting at all on "Sam Hill." (Sam Juan Hill I know.) Except for an occasional "Die already!" popping into my head, I'm thrilled about not having thought about The English Patient in 20 years. I'm surprised at all this hate directed toward The English Patien...

Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread

Curious what the record for giving up Dollys is, cuz ElendilPickle must be making a run at it with five so far. Best of luck to all--finish strong! I had to look at the LL page to see what a Dolly Parton is. Not sure I want to know why it's called that, but whatever I'm doing, it certainly isn't de...

Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread

I can thank reading Birds Without Wings for coming up with the Ottoman Empire. I probably wouldn't have come up with it otherwise. Hmm... I thought that it was pretty common knowledge that WW I spelled the end of two aging empires: Hapsburg/HRE and Ottoman. As usual, I'll have to rethink my assumpt...

I wrote "scull" and I don't know if it was accepted or not. I don't like to look at Friday's result when I sense it's bad until it's Monday and I have bigger problems. I considered Beverly Hillbillies but switched to the Flintstones, which really did feel like an inspiration. Also hadn't realized w...

Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread

Wow, I'm drowning in beer. Once more, I lead my Rundle in CAA with 56. So, despite being in the running for a Maso and with a good (for me) DE of .792, I'm flirting with relegation. #ARundleProblems. That was an Extra Special Bitter I drank against you. I don't even like those. Isn't that sacrilegi...

[*] Before my time, and I never caught Frost/Nixon .[/list] Don't think Frost/Nixon would help much here, but All the President's Men and especially the underrated spoof Dick would. Will Ferrell as Bob Woodward and Harry Shearer as Liddy, plus Kirsten Dunst, Michelle Williams, Teri Garr, Ana Gastey...

Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread

Boy, I really shouldn't post this, but it made me so happy and was such a delightful surprise (was expecting to lose because I said Bayern instead of Bayeux for the tapestry), but what the hell: owing largely* to a run of people having off days when they play me (leading A Cont in CAA by four points...

I know it's a common error, but I'm sort of surprised the judges didn't neg Buzzy for his response of tricep. Agreed. Not sure how that one got through without a neg. While we're at it, I wonder why Alan wasn't negged for saying The Enemy of the People , when it's An Enemy of the People . I know it...

Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread

My answer for the M.F.K. Fisher question was "travel" because I had read her Two Towns in Provence . I wasn't aware that she was best known for food writing; and, in fact, an MFK Fisher Award for Excellence in Culinary Writing is given out every even-numbered year. You learn something every day. He...
