Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

TFW you put a defensive 3 on a question with a 15% get rate, by far the day's hardest... and it's the only one your opponent gets right. I know, wanh. Perhaps I should start caring more about MCWA than DE cuz that's what I'm best at this season: 17 and counting, my highest total ever. All season lon...

Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

With 3 match days to go, somehow I'm 1st in B Continental. The top 5 LLamas in my rundle get promoted. If I end up in an A rundle for LL82, I expect the results to be similar to my only other season at A level (LL60), when I went 5-16-4. Looks like 14 people in your rundle have at least a mathemati...

Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

My first Dolly. I guess my Language score is higher than I realized, so I was assigned 0 for the cane/perro question. Unfortunately I didn't know it. I got a Dolly too, though not my first--that came in my second match ever, LL50 MD2 vs. soroban (CraigR). Took umpteen years of French but no Spanish...

Saw the Patterson/DuBois title on the bestseller list in Sunday's Arts section and was like 'Wait a minute...' Very cool, Brendan!

Never heard of Kaspar Hauser, but that's a story I want to read more about
From noted historian Suzanne Vega:

Knowing the song did not, however, get me to that answer, but I did pull "Rocky Mountain High" and FJ.

Re: Jeopardy! article from Games Magazine (1987)

Hey all. Gonna pimp my blog for just a minute. I scanned a pair of old (more than 30 years) Games Magazine articles about Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune that people might be interested in. Have a look, won't you? https://theycallittrivia.blogspot.com/2019/04/wheel-of-fortune-and-jeopardy-articles.h...

The "halogen" clue definitely [ETA: did not ask ed --thanks for the corrections, all!] for a 6-letter word. Even counting that as a miss, I think I got 42. Misses: 5 Red Dead Redemption 11 Billions 13 solicitor (said barrister) 17 Bolshoi (said Ballet Russe just to type something) 31 Pavarotti (said...

44/50 from the video--thanks, Sue! Missed (with what) 1. Grant (Burr... and I know he wasn't a general) 11. Viola Davis (blank) 30. Alps (Apennines) 41. Wonder Woman (Sparta--yes, I'm embarrassed) 44. HRC (Conway--see above) 50. "Shake It Off" (made up a song called "Blonde") The thing women don't u...

Serious ennui upon coming into work, logging in to my computer and finding the LearnedLeague site down. What the heck am I going to do?

Re: LL80: LearnedLeague

Thanks to studying pop music and geography I'm having the best season of my life, with the highest TCA in my rundle by four points. Unfortunately, I'm also having atrocious luck, with the highest CAA in my rundle by two points. The result? I'm in 6th place and will have to do well to avoid being st...

This is going to be exciting. :D who is he? oh some dude that was on other game shows...amazing how you people remember names of game show contestants Some of us have met him IRL, though his last name didn't come back to me ri...

Dates and audition cities are now posted for the 2019 Adult Test: https://www.jeopardy.com/be-on-j NYC is not on the list! Maybe it gets added later? Where y'all seeing this list of audition cities? I've been all over the site, logged in, searched for "audition cities"... nothing. Am I going blind?

SpoilerShow
Brad, David, Larissa
Captain because he's who he is.

The two teammates are legends in quizbowl, so I had to. :D
You picked the same team Brad did!

By pure chance though, two of the clues that Brad uncovered were Daily Doubles. If you really think seeking and finding DDs is "pure chance," I'm not sure you've been watching this game... or maybe you're just hard of herring. Players like Alex Jacob, Roger Craig and Brad Rutter have turned picking...

Nobody else read cephalopod, thought of whales (I know, cetacean) and put ambergris? I was so confident too, though how melanin, generally a skin pigment, morphs into whatever sort of material ambergris is I didn't ponder long enough. Didn't affect the match but doesn't bode well for the full season...

After 10 seasons in A Continental I'm back in B Cont for a fifth stint in B, none of which so far has lasted longer than two seasons. I recognize a couple branchies and the Hbomb--any other boardies in there? Am I too late to join a boardie private rundle? If not, let me know via PM or email: bpenro...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

Well, I managed a top 100 finish in the Confusing Lyrics one-day. Could have done a little better, even, but I'd have sworn Halley's Comet was on a seventy-SIX year schedule. Well, from what I know, it is, but it's probably not an exact 76-year schedule. It probably makes scoring far more complex, ...
