Re: Useless Sports Trivia only One Person On This Board Cares About, but Feels is Relevant for Jeopardy Even Though It I

For what it's worth, I would actually really like to see a separate thread for sports-y current events happenings. I miss news questions on sports with distressing consistency at my weekly pub quiz (just yesterday I missed a question on Drew Brees' recent accomplishment).

Re: LL83: Learned League

Unsure if shameless self-promotion is frowned upon on this board, but I have begun a blogging project in which I attempt to write a "companion question" to each question that appears in LearnedLeague (not published until after a match day has concluded). It can be found here: https://mercurialmisery...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

Has anyone here had to settle a scoring dispute with Thorsten? If so, how long did it take? I was marked incorrect for an answer that (I think) clearly meets the "sounds like" criterion yesterday, and was hoping to get it resolved ASAP, as this match outcome could very well determine whether I make...

Re: Article about quiz show scandals - mentions Holzhauer

Thanks for the resource - I've not seen the movie and wasn't aware of some of the narrative. I'm not sure the scandal was that big a hit to our national psyche. Not much connection to Holzhauer - it looks like just a throwaway clickbait comment on top of an otherwise decent essay. you are right...i...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I did alright this season, but TV questions absolutely destroyed me. Does anyone know of any good, info-dense books about 1950s-1960s television? May leaf through reference books at some point, but I'd prefer something more readable.

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I thought yesterday's set (MD 19) was brutal. I only got two right (Stallone/Rocky and Singapore). I've heard of the Bechdel test, but couldn't come up with the name. Agreed. I felt bad about getting only 3 right (narrowly missed the Taco Bell one) but then saw that Reddpen, my opponent for the day...

Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

Bizarrely, I seem to have not received credit for answering "sahel" with "sehel..." which seems well within range of a reasonable "Sounds Like" equivalent. Doesn't affect match outcome, so I'm not going to bother Thorsten about it, but slightly irked nonetheless.

BAD-JECTIVES $1600: If someone calls you this, it can mean you are inadequate (or you arouse compassion) Dan got a correct response for pitiful while Alex was clearly looking for something else. What was the expected response? I was 0/5 in the category and it felt like salt on the skunk wound when ...

Re: Thursday, June 6, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Checking "I matched Emma" in the weekly poll. Too much Arlo and Janis, I suppose. And to Roadgeek Adam, naturally the James fans are going to root against Emma. They wanted him to go all the way. I'd consider myself a "James fan" I suppose, in that I was rooting for him to break the all time money ...

Re: James wouldn't have lost pre-James

Emma clearly knows her stuff, and has apparently spent a fair amount of time studying the mechanics of the game. She didn't miss a single question, and bet big when the situation demanded it. It's not impossible that, like Adam Levin, she played more aggressively because she knew she was up against ...

Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

Yet another 4(4) for me. Frustratingly, I figured out the gist of both questions I missed (i.e., the book cover was a female comedian's head on a male body, and the list of characters in Q6 never appear on screen), but was unable to convert either into a get (lamely punting with "Joan Rivers" and "M...

Almost poetic that James came so close to Ken's total and found himself just barely unable to overtake him. Ah well. It's been a blast following James, and I think there's a very strong argument in favor of him as the best player of all time, even without the total cash record.

Re: J! in the Media

For all his prep and focus, James absolutely deserves every dollar he's earning. But gameplay aside, Robin's overall experience was clearly marred by behavior backstage that affected not only her, but other contestants, and even staff. That's a shame. If there was improper behavior that affected he...
