Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

Through 24 Match days I have now broken my record for most match points in a season, have tied my record for most correct answers in a season, and am 1 shy of tying my record for most 3-pointers in a season. Thanks to yesterday's loss, I also just dropped into the relegation zone, and am now threate...

Re: Monday, September 21, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I got FJ from the category too. The pool of potential responses is pretty small--John Dewey, Horace Mann, Phineas J. Whoopie--that I'm surprised first place didn't get it. But, everything's easy if you know it, I guess. I missed Friday, and I had to google even after seeing the correct response, sin...

Re: 2020 Current Events Discussion Thread

Phosphine has been found in the atmosphere of Venus which might be a signature of potential life as, on Earth, it only comes from biological sources. https://gizmodo.com/scientists-detect-apparent-signature-of-life-in-venus-s-1845051001 I've heard that (*koff koff*) penguin droppings are especially...

Re: Thursday, September 17, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I got this FJ thanks to a post from back in 2019 when I was posting more regularly in the New Old Games thread: I did an Archive search last week on Mexican muralists, so I'll pick ART for $1000 as clue of the game. He was a question at the Pub Quiz Tournament of Champions last Tuesday, and I'm glad...

Broke my streak on this one, since I knew Crockett died at the Alamo, which was 1836.

Re: Tuesday, September 15, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I wonder if it's a matter of Barry and Berry being 2 different actual names. Like you'd get dinged if you put Lisa Minnelli, even though you could also broadly argue that L-I-S-A could conceivably be pronounced "lie-zuh".

Detroit sent me to Motown, which sent me to Gordy, but then I jumped to Quincy Jones for reasons inexplicable. 0/2 for the new season.

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

I would have known the jockeys with any one of the five names and almost did not money that one in thinking it was too easy with so many famous names. I clicked the $ in figuring it's sports, so I have to do it. At least I did something right to get the 89 there. John Velazquez was one of the very ...

David Green gets the relevant clue in the COLORS category.

I got "What is Nippon?" for DOUBLE "P"s for $1000. I'm guessing that wouldn't fly.

I suspect the airdate wasn't actually a Saturday.

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

I expected a much higher get rate on Q1 yesterday (anchor). I can see putting "pundit," which was the MCWA at 14%, but that plus anchor at 42% gives 56%. I wonder what the other 44% came up with? This one seemed like a WECIB? type question to me. "Political analyst." This question for me was just, ...

Re: Season 37 date?

Ken is joining the show?!? The video description says he's a consulting producer and Ken's first video category airs on September 15, the second episode of the season. That might partially explain why he dropped out of LearnedLeague. I'm looking forward to the credit rolls with people in hazmat sui...

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

At this point unless I discover other games in my collection or other episodes turn up through sharing routes with uploads, I do not have anymore games to archive. I can send you the other of India Cooper's tapes if you'd like. My game entering has been the polar opposite of yours in 2020. Or maybe...

Given this year's increased attention on vote-by-mail and absentee ballots, it seems worth knowing that the Postmaster General is a fellow named Louis DeJoy, who was appointed in May.

Here's a application of the J-Archive siterips I wasn't expecting. https://www.anagrammer.com/crossword/answer/socrates/1/1/4 If you search a word on anagrammer-dot-com, and brings you up a list of "Potential Jeopardy Clues" related to your word. (Scroll to the bottom.) Semi-related, it's hard to tr...

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

It's an embarrassment of riches for us TV trivia fans this off-season. We had 60s TV COMEDY, and now there's VERY SPECIAL EPISODES, which is live until tomorrow. Very much a must-play, if that's your thing.

Re: 2020 Current Events Study Guide

Old news now, but I thought I posted it back when. On June 20, Tiz the Law won the Belmont Stakes. While the race is usually the 3rd leg of the Triple Crown, this year it was first, due to the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness being postponed due to COVID concerns. Additionally, the race was shortene...

Is Enya not Jeopardy canon???
Enya has the problem that there is now a whole generation that hasn't heard of her.
Kids these days care more about Progressive Flo than Orinoco Flow!
