Re: Thursday, September 19, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

"Magellan" was MONSTROUS negbait when spotted "blah blah blah EXPLORER blah blah FERDINAND." "...his 4th voyage in 1502" is not "blah blah blah". What was the TOM for Chicago on Hull House for $200? New York seemed like a far more cromulent guess on a big city known for immigrants. Not every clue h...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

My opponent gave me 3 for Jonny Quest. Did not matter since I had five right anyway to her three right. Still... I got 2 for Mount Rushmore, which I see represented approximately a zillion times a day. Shamefully, I still had to puzzle it out, using logic almost identical to classicroadster's...

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6356 And I got it, Show #1700, January 10, 1992, Bill Dunn vs. Patricia Ford-Smith vs. Liz MacGillicuddy-Lucas, the next game on India Cooper's tape. And if Michael on the last game wagered too conservatively on his end of game DD's, Bill wagered a bit r...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

However, the 30 foot advertisement for the Las Vegas Aces that I saw in Las Vegas while at Trivia Nationals was helpful. :-) Still good enough for a win. My guess too on that one. One random day there was an Aces home game on at the Brewery and I instantly fell in love with the logo: https://upload...

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

I hope Andy won't mind, but I needed a change of pace, so I jumped in and entered the Season 4 premiere from Netflix. September 7, 1987, Ken Higgins vs. Phyllis Rosenthal vs. Michael Seiler. http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6415 Lots of Don't Bother clues to not put on your flash cards ...

Re: Monday, September 16, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I went from Kipling to Shaw and stayed there, assuming that it was someone who won eventually. Sticking "never won" in the clue somewhere might have helped, but probably not.

Thumbs up to Laura for the sole solve.

Re: FJs for the 9/9/19 week

The trivia lesson of the day: Kay Thompson wrote about Eloise who lived in the Plaza Hotel. It came up on two different GSN shows today and the success rate could have been better. Remembered this post from a month ago. Do you think I could remember the hotel today? Nope. Funky coincidence though.

Now the page is gone entirely and redirects to "List of Jeopardy! tournaments and events." Fortunately all the content is, for the moment, still on Wikipedia if you look for it . Thanks for the link. It made transcribing Alex's remarks at the end of the episode so much easier. http://www.j-archive....

I considered Hillary to be from Illinois, but when I had counted back to Reagan, I assumed I did something wrong. Put down 2004, just to have something. First miss of the season.

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I was pretty sure the game show was Card Sharks, but it took me a long time to convince myself that each round started with a "Family Feud-style toss-up". I finally realized that in both cases 100 people are surveyed, and I was more confident to submit.

The Archive shows enough repetition that it should not have been a miss: #5971, aired 2010-07-26 BIBLE WHO'S WHO $800: If Gath had a basketball team, he would have been its star #5522, aired 2008-09-16 BIBLE PEOPLE $1200: Goliath of Gath was the champion of these people #5320, aired 2007-10-26 THE ...

Hello all, I took the exam in March 2018, I got a 40. I took the audition in Philadelphia on Sept 11, and just got "The Call" this afternoon! I am so ecstatic, this feels so surreal. I dreamed of this moment since I was a little kid!!
Awesome. Nice to see an avatar I recognize get on the show.

The female characters in the comic strip B.C. are getting proper names. "Cute Chick" is now Grace, and "Fat Broad" is now Jane.

I’m writing something about the ‘87 ToC(I don’t know where to put this tbh), is there a link to Day 2 of the Finals where I can watch it?

Good Burger? Somehow that's a movie that 62% of the people have heard of? OK... Yeah I was shocked too that it didn't play over 80. i'm of the right age demographic to know that movie quite well. I don't remember ever seeing it, but I saw ads for it and cross-promotion on Kenan and Kel and All That...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I admit it look me a minute or two to connect the dots on the "Diff'rent Strokes" question, but I got there. Still lost 6(5)-8(5). My opponent knew the pop singers' nationality, which I thought was clearly the most difficult question of the set. The TOM there was to recognize Rexha as an Albanian n...

TIL there was a solo version of synchronized swimming. A website says "the event's supporters claim that the synchronization is with the music." I feel like this came up on one of the trivia apps earlier this year, because it was my reflex guess. Fortunately I talked myself out of it, en route to m...
