Re: Thursday, October 8, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

As a Canadian, I was unfamiliar with the restaurant chain Ruby Tuesday.

I looked it up and apparently it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy yesterday.

Re: Tuesday, October 6, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Is there any reason I should have known RESTING PLACES for $1000 was Ernest Shackleton and not Robert Falcon Scott? Seemed very YEKIOYD, and just a complete 50/50 IMO I came into this thread to say this. Also the $800 clue also seems like a tossup to me. Maybe Doc Holliday wouldn't be the type to m...

Had "FR" thought of "UK" about halfway through but didn't make the switch.

Gitche Gumee was a pre-call for me.

Re: Friday, October 2, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I got FJ but I was having serious doubts due to the year.

i had "Leaning tower of Pisa" but I was surprised that construction began so early. I would expect a date nearer to the Renaissance.

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

Oh, it makes much more sense that those BWA are chosen after the season and are submitted for consideration by the users. User submission is absolutely NOT a consideration. Is it just me being cranky, or could the Best Wrong Answer chitchat thread be relabeled "People who aren't as funny as they th...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

A sort of bittersweet ending to my rookie season. I finished 11th and missed the C rundle by a single point, so I'll be heading to D. A degree of tough luck I think, as I was sixth in Defensive Efficiency, and eighth in both TMP and TCA. And my .613 correct answer % was comparable to the average num...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

I also guessed Morisot. I was fairly certain that the date provided in the clue was too early for impressionism but I had never heard of Bonheur so I went with Morisot in the hopes I had my dates confused. As I knew realism was the likely movement for that time, I also considered Millet on the logic...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

I hadn't heard of any of those plays but got lucky with the context clues in their titles and came up with "House" Another "Moldova" here. I was waffling between Kyrgyzstan and Moldova. At least I was able to have all 14 post-Soviet states correct in my head before making the guess. So I'll take tha...

Re: Friday, September 18, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I have to assume that just "Uranium" would have been accepted for that $1200 clue. I knew that northern Saskatchewan was among the world leaders in uranium mining, but had never heard of the small town of "Uranium City". That seems like an extremely obscure reference for a $1200 clue. But the wordin...

Re: Thursday, September 17, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I said "Diego Rivero" but I think if I was writing it down hopefully I would have fixed my mistake. What led to Tchaikovsky instead of Beethoven on the "Pathetique" clue? The documentary itself seems pretty obscure so I guess it is just the name "Pasternak" being of yiddish/russian/ukranian origin. ...

TIL the current view when the site is scoring the games is a BLM message.
I've noticed that a couple times too.

Got my first 9(6). Didn't know the DJ Khaled, Drake question but made a lucky guess on the country they might make a song about.

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

8/12 and 396 points. 3rd place in my rookie rundle - but it also would have been 3rd in the A rundle lol And I was lucky enough to money for maximum points. I'd never heard of Amy Grant or those jockeys. Missed Yellowstone and the Zayn Malik, Gigi Hadid question. I fell into the trap and had guessed...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

I had Argentina instantly after reading the question but I convinced myself to switch to Uruguay due to their flag being more striped. I guess the question did mention vertical stripes. For Q3 I had Ross Perot and Mike Pence written down. I ended up going with Pence due to "educational" being in quo...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

I expected a much higher get rate on Q1 yesterday (anchor). I can see putting "pundit," which was the MCWA at 14%, but that plus anchor at 42% gives 56%. I wonder what the other 44% came up with? This one seemed like a WECIB? type question to me. I had "pundit" first but decided to go with "talking...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

Figured out the question was referring to Mary Shelley but had no idea on her maiden name. Lucky for me I'm 4/5 on literature questions so my opponent assigned 0 to that question.

My rundle seems pretty tough for a rookie one. My % is .606 but I'm 5-4-2

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

Australian female tennis star from many decades ago = Margaret Court. I thought I had that for sure. Couldn't think of Pomeranian and knew there was a toy breed of a Schnauzer so I went with that. I was deciding between The Pips and The Miracles. Apparently the Miracles were Motown. I thought I had ...

Wow, got super lucky in MD5 and won 7(3)-6(5)

DEFENCE DEFENCE lol

I was surprised they assigned 3 to "Asteroids"
