I won't be alone, but middle name/first name Nelle got me there. Didn't need Finch.

For Whom the Bell Tolls is set during the Spanish Civil War, so couldn't be that. Have read both, so it was a short route to the answer.

There are only 3 prairie provinces, so middle Saskatchewan has to be one. If you consider you have to include the fat end of Yukon into the equation, the other has to be Manitoba, not Alberta.

Re: Thursday, March 26, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Once before, long ago, after a Mediterranean geography category was butchered, even with maps in the clues, I made a comment about the spectacle being a marker for typical American geographical ignorance. One of the contestants became defensive about it in this forum. So-- I mark it as a condemnatio...

Re: Learned League 84

I thought sure 'Gloria' had been covered by The Animals, so I thought the great Van Morrison, the great Stones, AND the great Eric Burdon (I maintain Eric Burdon is one of the most underrated rock vocalists of all time) had been dissed. Turns out only two of three, but that's still inexcusable. LOTS...

Re: Learned League 84

I was surprised so many people (47%) got Crossroads . I'd never even heard of that movie and I was actually watching movies in the mid-80s! :D I suppose there's the Robert Johnson angle, too, but blues history doesn't seem like something a lot of people would know. Thought for sure "derby" would be...

Re: Friday, January 31, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

the route number is no longer in use. They still do designate some parts of the road as Historic Route 66. I stayed in a hotel in Williams, Arizona 2 years ago that was on it and saw the signs. It's I-40 that parallels Route 66. I-10's western terminus is indeed Santa Monica, but it runs considerab...

44 tonight and it's a counter. A little disappointing after 50 and 48 the previous two nights without caring much, but actually it's probably closer to my historical average. Should have known Wager; did not. Misread the Kahlo clue in the same manner others have mentioned. Could not pull the Lady Ga...

48. Missed the first. don't know nothin bout no tidyin up. Missed the last. Feel like I probably should have thought of it. Guess on Black Widow, but guessed right. The rest was gravy, though Sorkin took a bit to summon. Still for fun; tomorrow for real. Here's hoping it feels as easy as these first...

50.

It's tautology to say I thought this one was very easy. Last-five-second pulls on Grande, James, and a brain fart correction from Pennywhite.

Will take for real on Thursday.

Again. Starting to wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled.

I know damn well what a ramekin is and thought of it immediately, but the non-characteristic k in a romance language game me enough pause to drive me to cocotte. Which is almost as good. Almost.

Re: LL83: Learned League

Got the win yesterday 8(5)-6(4) but my opponent did get the math question right, despite math being her second to worst category. I can't say the term "twin primes" sounded familiar at all to me. Very surprised Mersenne Primes wasn't the MCWA. That's certainly what I put down. Can't say that in all...

Instaget FJ. I didn't realize it was released in 1700; for some reason I thought it was older. "Don't say St. Louis, don't say St...damnit". The Pony Express/St. Joseph connection strikes again. When's the last time a contestant got that right? ~22 years doesn't sound reasonable to you? Hardly. The...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

What other 1800s poetry collection could it be besides Leaves of Grass? I did have to read the question a couple times to get the hint. Wow. I totally didn't catch that the newer reference was potentially in English. I assumed they were both Japanese works. Nice get. And yeah, Whitman was what clue...

A Greek-derived compound related to reptiles was so obviously "amphibian" to me that I never had a chance. Even more related to reptile is the Greek-derived compound word herpetology. I haz a sad. Yeah...herpetology=sounds good. Go with it. Then I failed to RTFQ on the Romanov. Put a country with a...
