Re: Thursday, December 6, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

"mistakenly called an Arab land" is Pavlovian for Iran TIL....and this is why I watch J! and read these boards! Said Egypt just to have something. I'm going to disagree with that being Pavlovian. I agree that Iran is a go-to on "mistakenly called an Arab land", but I think Turkey would fit t...

Re: Wednesday, December 5, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

A friend of mine - not a J! watcher, and not a "trivia" person though a smart guy - says that In 1999 is deliberately misleading and should have been left out. This despite the fact that he got it, and within :30 I believe. I think he's just being a curmudgeon, but any response? 1999 wasn't particu...

Pink?!?! Oh, all my J! friends led me astray.
Mine too, alas. Still, they’ve steered me right so often that I can’t conplain.
Same. And I've won more on Confetti than any other app, so I'm doubly not complaining. But that was painful to watch!

Re: Trebek, Sajak, White re-up for two additional years

pretty lame...really thought next year was going to be trebek's last year Lame because Trebek stated publicly that he would mostly likely retire? Or lame because you wanted Megyn Kelly to take over? lame because i must endure him for another few years...no idea who that kelly person is I think the ...

The second the FJ picture came up, I said, "Hey, that looks like a Dyson ball!" After hearing the clue, I said, "Huh, I guess it is!"

Too bad the Bangor homeboy couldn't pull it out, but a good game overall. :D

In retrospect I should've gotten it, but all my mind could do was associate Pretoria with petunias, and wound up picking that one .
I said Pretoria as well. Bloemfontein, for me, is the Carreras of South African capitals: it's that *other* one.

My wife said "salve" for the silent L category clue where the given answer was "balm." I don't recall the exact wording, but I'm assuming salve would have been acceptable. Can't see why it wouldn't be. The clue specified the substance was plant-derived; I don't know if that makes a difference. (I s...

My wife said "salve" for the silent L category clue where the given answer was "balm." I don't recall the exact wording, but I'm assuming salve would have been acceptable. I said salve as well. Then I wasn't sure if it would be counted correct since it didn't really fit the hint of "You're the balm...

Olive oil makes so much sense in retrospect, but I didn't get it. All I could come up with was honey. Ditto. I feel better now. It seemed so obvious on the reveal, and I berated myself for several minutes afterward. I hesitated to read the game thread because I figured it would just reinforce my id...

And the extra 3.4 seconds wouldn't have helped with turquoise, anyway. I've always thought of it in relation to the American southwest -- guess I thought it may have come from a Native American language. I thought of turquoise and dismissed it for this reason. If I had paid more attention to the "E...

Sounds like I'm in the minority, but the quote actually led me *away* from the speech taking place in Boston...as in, these chains are clanking so loucly, they can be heard all the way in Boston. After that, given the year and famous speech makers, Patrick Henry was my first and only choice. Even if...

Besides, what's to prevent any members of that chat room from using a search engine or a bot of some type after they've been eliminated, which would go against the TOS? Search engines are legal; bots are not. Legal, but not ethical. Scott has mentioned on several occasions how it's preferable every...
