I was surprised FJ! wasn't a triple-get. "Extremely popular 3-D toy invented in the mid-70s" screams Rubik's Cube to me.
Whereas all I got from that clue is white noise.

Re: Thursday, September 19, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The street in the Hull House clue is a well known Chicago street. [citation needed] "Halsted Street" has zero Archive hits. I wouldn’t say it was a slam dunk TOM, but it was the TOM in the clue. It is one of the major north/south street in downtown Chicago, whether it’s in the archive or not. Then ...

Re: Thursday, September 19, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

"Magellan" was MONSTROUS negbait when spotted "blah blah blah EXPLORER blah blah FERDINAND." Megan Rapinoe was utterly familiar to me in the top box, but somehow I got the next three. What was the TOM for Chicago on Hull House for $200? New York seemed like a far more cromulent guess on a big city k...

Jonny Quest rang a faint bell but too faint for me to hear.

I have a feeling I will never get close to a 6/6.

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

How many more blatant hints are going to go right over my head? "Blah blah blah Tuskegee" should've been blatantly obviously pointing to Carver, but it just didn't trigger anything at all.

I also seem to be utterly uanble to fire off even a guess on any of these.

Re: Wednesday, September 18, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

As you could probably guess from my TD's, I don't know anything about heavy metal. I managed to come up with Motley Crue for Vince Neil. That must be some kind of pavlov. I also knew Dee Snider was with Twisted Sister but not because of anything he'd ever done musically. I remember him from testify...

Re: Wednesday, September 18, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Ran the Spanish and Brand Name categories, along with Metaphors in DJ! Saw no way to figure out "Heaven" in Bestsellers for $200, or Nixon in Career for $400. NHO Biscayne Bay to my knowledge, which I thought was an obscure path to Miami for the top box. Country with the most tornados? Well, that ca...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

Humiliating miss on the "clef" clue. The clue just wasn't reading right to my eyes. I knew I was going to know what the answer was, but the individual elements just somehow weren't making sense. Symbol that indicates pitch? That's gotta be a note. Those are in lines and staffs. But it just isn't qui...

Re: Tuesday, September 17, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

DD sniping can really change things, can't it? Surprisingly I bombed the Verbs category. The clues were just weren't breaking my way at all. "Yellow ones for TV" had me wondering where on a TV a yellow ball would be placed, and I almost WAGged tuning knob. That and Australia for Japan on Wagyu cost ...

Re: Alex Trebek Announces Diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer

Trebek is exactly the kind of person I would expect to come out on top after this diagnosis. With his professionalism, intelligence, and positivity, I'm sure that the outcome will be a favorable one.

Re: Monday, September 16, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Rodrigo did indeed have a tough day. Mistaking licorice for cotton candy and thinking that Truman was drafted to play in the NFL were two of the, um most unusual responses we've seen in a while. I felt the clue about Gerald Ford would have made a decent FJ clue. Rodrigo's blatantly wrong guess disr...

Re: Monday, September 16, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Duct tape was an embarrassing miss. I almost went with scotch tape but it just didn't quite fit. "Mesh" was throwing me for a loop since I couldn't see a way that tape would have a mesh in it. "The Night Watch" was unfamiliar in the top box for me. Ran "5", all but "Party of Five" in Family Televisi...

Re: Friday, September 13, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Am I the only one who finds it dirty when the writers do a "The last X where Y happened" clue when Y happened in the most recent example of X?

Not only do I find it exceptionally misleading and easy to overlook, I also find it makes for a very uninteresting clue.

:( :( :( :(
:( :( :(

Clammed on air and space because I misread the clue; no guess on the rest.

I am obviously way too young to have seen the Beatles on TV.

Gath was unfamiliar, didn't say "Wonderful", haven't been to the museum.

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

That Mercury question was a total word salad that I couldn't make heads or tails of. I find that so often, the questions are so crammed full of gobbledygook that I'm just like "okay, what are you even ASKING?" Which then causes me to breeze past keywords in an easier question: "Blah blah blah South ...

Re: Friday, September 13, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Ran the Mottoes and Crossword Clues. Strangely "flush" at $200 was my only miss in Hunting. Just couldn't flush it out and the TOMs seemed vague. Not even a guess on FJ! I blew right past 2016 since a.) I didn't think a "most recent" would be THE most recent, and b.) I didn't know Agent Orange was a...

Re: Thursday, September 12, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

You're probably right. When I saw the category, I figured I was probably good for one right answer out of five, yet even I ran the category. That is NOT a sigh that I suddenly became C&W-smart, but a sign of a (how has it been characterized here?) a ridiculously easy one. Well, you can't be that sm...
