I doubt I'd have gotten that one, honestly.
Nor I. In my head, the phrase should be
Spoiler
Show
Warm and Fuzzy
, not the way they had it.
But they like to contrive puzzles to make them harder. FLEXING MY QUADS was a recent example that had me shaking my head.

Re: Friday, January 24, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Honestly, though, the highlight of my evening was solving the Wheel bonus puzzle from _ _ _ _ _ / _ND / _ _R_ (Phrase / RSTLN E DCH O) FUZZY AND WARM For some reason I reflexively clicked the spoiler about a minute before the bonus round came up. No idea what made me do it. I doubt I'd have gotten ...

Re: Friday, January 24, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Ran Post Haste and surprisingly, Geographic Numbers. Even more surprisingly, 4/5 in the Brush with Death category (all but $2,000). 0/5 in Literary Characters. NHO the ones named at $200. Strangely, only $2,000 in Neil Before Me. "Uptown Funk" is one of my favorite songs, but I completely blanked on...

Re: Thursday, January 23, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Giving myself Seychelles even though I'm not 100% sure I'd have rung in for that for real. I was lucky, I was going for the closest of the three small African island nations to the east coast, but got it and Comoros mixed up. The "shells by the seashore" hint made that one easy for me. Stayed clam ...

Re: Thursday, January 23, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Champ has something in common. I was my mom's GPS when I was 5 because I read Michigan maps all the time. Precalled Dr. Strangelove in the Movie category. All but Master & Commander in that category. Had a brainfart on Entering the Language for $200. Somehow my brain turned "possessive" into "allite...

Re: Wednesday, January 22, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I fell for the Guam trap too. And, no, I couldn't name all five territories...I got Puerto Rico, Guam, and American Samoa, and picked Guam since it was closeish to Japan, which I knew drove left. Logic, right? I totally blanked on USVI, and NHO Northern Mariana Islands. I Googled the territories wh...

NHO "A-line" skirt.

What was the TOM for Kennedy Airport in the top box? I didn't see anything pointing to any airport whatsoever.

Complete brain lock on this one. I just completely zoned out and couldn't name any of the US territories at all. Is there a way to remedy that?

Re: Tuesday, January 21, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

You know Grafton's book starts with a Z, and with the "countdown" hint, that's probably a guess you can make. I just tried randomly pulling up a bunch of Z words and none seemed to fit. "Countdown" didn't even seem like a hint, and even if it did I would still have been overwhelmed by my brain's ma...

Re: Tuesday, January 21, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

remember being a school kid and finding a crayon in my Crayola box called "burnt umber" You were probably thinking of "Raw umber". That was one of the eight colors they retired in 1990. Even into the late 90s, I would still occasionally find a Crayola box that had "new color" on one of the eight re...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

I didn’t know Grafton had a title picked out for Z. But there aren’t many words (much fewer than a thousand) that could be a reasonable word for her book. I took a guess and won imaginary money. I think Zenith would have fit if she had chosen that. Zebra, not so much. I just froze up because "Zero"...

Re: Tuesday, January 21, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

All but "jovial" in Mythology. I thought getting there from "Jupiter" was a tough connection. "Patio" is a Spanish word? Why do they always stump me with Spanish? Didn't know the lemur for a 4/5 in my animal wheelhouse category. Apparently primates remain a weak spot in that department. I could have...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

Random thought: What is your primary use of the archive -- to learn about new things, get a refresher or stuff you may have encountered, or to defend your ignorance ("It only showed up X times, so why should I care?")? Feels like you could make better use of your time on the archive, especially if ...

Libraries for $400 (1/20/20 spoilers)

Poll time again. The clue: The Margaret Herrick Library of the Motion Picture Academy is home to more than 15,000 of these from 1910 to the present Contestant Matthew was incorrect with movies/films Correct response: scripts/screenplays Myself? Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

For kicks go to the Archive search box and one by one put in each of the Emmys correct responses. It will become obvious how those kind of award-winning names do not stick for you, unfortunately, as each have multiple hits in the 2010s. Kyra Sedgwick was the $200 box. Her last two hits as a respons...

Re: Monday, January 20, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Ran "Step" by Step, Holidays, and Hidden Treasure Absolutely no recognition whatsoever in Emmy Winners. Libraries for $400 was MASSIVE negbait for "films/movies". I was so jarred by that being wrong that I literally couldn't think of another thing that it could possibly be. I think that caught the c...

Re: Friday, January 17, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Two Michigan clues? Oh writers, you spoil me. I remember the Turtle Creek casino being built because at the time, I had a psychiatrist in Traverse City and we went right by that casino on the way to his office. Too slow on "Crepes suzette" to run You Burned My Food, and NHO "swedish pancakes" for a ...

I explained how (actually) literally one word could be helpful but you don't want it to be.
Because it wasn't at the time, and still isn't.
