Re: Monday, September 16, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Rodrigo did indeed have a tough day. Mistaking licorice for cotton candy and thinking that Truman was drafted to play in the NFL were two of the, um most unusual responses we've seen in a while. I felt the clue about Gerald Ford would have made a decent FJ clue. Rodrigo's blatantly wrong guess disr...

Re: Monday, September 16, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Duct tape was an embarrassing miss. I almost went with scotch tape but it just didn't quite fit. "Mesh" was throwing me for a loop since I couldn't see a way that tape would have a mesh in it. "The Night Watch" was unfamiliar in the top box for me. Ran "5", all but "Party of Five" in Family Televisi...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

This is my first time, so I don't know what to expect. I have gone for the skunk more than once, and don't think I've ever done better than half of the questions right.

Re: Friday, September 13, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Am I the only one who finds it dirty when the writers do a "The last X where Y happened" clue when Y happened in the most recent example of X?

Not only do I find it exceptionally misleading and easy to overlook, I also find it makes for a very uninteresting clue.

:( :( :( :(
:( :( :(

Clammed on air and space because I misread the clue; no guess on the rest.

I am obviously way too young to have seen the Beatles on TV.

Gath was unfamiliar, didn't say "Wonderful", haven't been to the museum.

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

That Mercury question was a total word salad that I couldn't make heads or tails of. I find that so often, the questions are so crammed full of gobbledygook that I'm just like "okay, what are you even ASKING?" Which then causes me to breeze past keywords in an easier question: "Blah blah blah South ...

Re: Friday, September 13, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Ran the Mottoes and Crossword Clues. Strangely "flush" at $200 was my only miss in Hunting. Just couldn't flush it out and the TOMs seemed vague. Not even a guess on FJ! I blew right past 2016 since a.) I didn't think a "most recent" would be THE most recent, and b.) I didn't know Agent Orange was a...

Re: Thursday, September 12, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

You're probably right. When I saw the category, I figured I was probably good for one right answer out of five, yet even I ran the category. That is NOT a sigh that I suddenly became C&W-smart, but a sign of a (how has it been characterized here?) a ridiculously easy one. Well, you can't be that sm...

Re: Thursday, September 12, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Blasted country music category was ridiculously easy, even at the maximum dollar amount. I think that's the thing whenever they have a celebrity doing the clue. They want to make sure the celebrity doesn't spill the beans about whatever the clue is, so it's always something that is ridiculously obv...

Re: Thursday, September 12, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Tried the precall game on the category but my mind just went completely blank. "Air and Space Museum" did flit through my mind briefly, but I swatted it away because we weren't in space in 1946 so there's no way we could've had a space museum back then. Ended up with nothing. The museum was first e...

Re: Thursday, September 12, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Anyone else hear JG's voice crack on "Alex Trebek"? Surprisingly good start for me, as I was 13/15 at the first break. Impressed myself with some good gets like Pol Pot and aide-de-camp. Daily Double in "Country Music"? I would Holzhauer that in a heartbeat. Most of them I needed only the pictures o...

Re: Wednesday, September 11, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I misread the "Rolling Stones" clue and thought they were asking for a Rolling Stone ranking of most popular hit songs. Not recognizing the other two song titles, I was instantly lost. What does sausage have to do with a waltz? I almost WAGed "polka". For some reason I kept brainfarting 4-letter wor...

Re: Monday, September 9, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Speaking of obscurities in the Bible, last week one of the pastors read from the book of Philemon. I think this is the first time anybody has ever read the book of Philemon. It was the scheduled New Testament reading for that Sunday in the Anglican lectionary, Year C. So it should come up once ever...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

Rule of thumb: FJ is not going to be about something obscure. So I take it you didn't watch Monday's episode... Which leaves shows, it would be logical to try to think of a much beloved show that ended in 1964 and could have had a big finale. I Love Lucy was 1957, not the worst guess but a bit off....

Re: Season 36 Pre-Emptions

I got entirely knocked out by a tornado warning, because apparently tornados have never happend in Michigan before and the weathermen have to blather on and on and on and on and and on about the same fucking thing. Can someone help me find a recording please? I have the 9/10/19 episode. I finally f...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

I made it two episodes. The 1967 finale of “The Fugitive” drew in 78 million viewers, surpassing the 73 million who tuned into this show Sunday, February 9, 1964 I tried precall after precall after precall. This left me with a miles-long list of options, and no matter how many times I reread the clu...

Re: Tuesday, September 10, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Finally found the episode. Somehow I had to put JUST the right search results into Dailymotion or it wouldn't come up. For some reason not even "2019-09-10" gave me that EVEN THOUGH THAT'S IN THE GODDAMN TITLE. Why does Google love to gaslight me by deliberately ignoring words "even when I put them ...
