Re: Thursday, July 19, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Thought I'd get at least one in the Classic Songs. I've heard all of them, but not often enough that I could pin the first line, so I bombed the category. Portrait of the Artist = James Joyce is one that comes up all the time yet refuses to stick in my brain. I got "Look Homeward, Angel" because a P...

Re: Wednesday, July 18, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I guessed the "Idiot's Guide" series for the daily double "The name of these Yellow & Black study guides is used to suggest "a superficial grounding but no real insight."" Those guides used to be yellow and black and they fit that description. Those were actually the "For Dummies" books. "Complete ...

Re: Wednesday, July 18, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I could've taken 100,000 guesses and not known that the title object in "The Hunt for Red October" was a submarine. I'd say that was a tough top box, but I had zero clue in any of that category. Thought the movie category was very tough too. NHO the film "Proud Mary". Loved the pun category. Parasit...

Re: Reretaken Down

Well, that music was surrounded by (other) things that were setting you off. In my situation, I tried to calm myself down with gentler music, and I described it later to a friend as being like a blank canvas that my mind splashed red paint on. But the angry music made the violence external to my br...

Re: Reretaken Down

I don't get why angry music exists, personally. Doesn't that just make you angrier? Isn't that like poking the bear? I was able to end one of the worst nights of my life because I had angry music to listen to; I couldn't fall asleep because of intrusive violent thoughts, but angry music put the vio...

Re: Tuesday, July 17, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I guess bringing him back was worth it. Pavlov misfire kept me from a run on the food category. I've heard of manzanilla olives, but saw "manzana" and WAGged apple. Any way to remember whether Pacific or Atlantic is largest? I usually do well on marine life, but only got 2 right in Octopus: missed w...

Re: Reretaken Down

Why does the horror genre exist? Who wants to voluntarily feel a negative emotion (fear)? Why does sad music exist? Why does spicy food exist? Why does the TPH education thread exist? 1. Because emo people exist. I don't get why angry music exists, personally. Doesn't that just make you angrier? Is...

Re: Monday, July 16, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Didn't recognize anything in Magic or Castle. Cake seemed like a tough category too. Black forest?! Ran the "Me Me" and Celebrity categories. "Infantryman" seemed tough for the top box. Yet again I blank on college in RI = Brown. Why couldn't they call it something like Baffleburg to make it Hawley-...

Not that I have a problem with it, but does it seem like they're bringing back more contestants than usual lately? There's been what, three confirmed bring-backs within the past couple months?

On FJ!: Had the clue not specified "the two founders", I would have answered Apple, but I happened to know Apple was founded by three people (Google "Ronald Wayne", or if you have an Apple device ask Siri "who founded Apple?") so I thought the "the two founders" data point was meant to eliminate Ap...

Re: Thursday, July 12, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

When Jaws first came out, a friend and I were standing in the very long line to get in and were discussing how we were going to take my little sailboat (fondly named "Le Vent") out for a sail the next day. After the movie, we looked at each other and said "Hell no!" I've never understood that minds...

Re: Tuesday, July 10, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

To be blunt, the type of person who has never shown any curiosity to where common expressions came from, is not someone who is going to succeed on Jeopardy! You have to know things, and you have to be capable of some deductible reasoning to fill in the gaps you don’t know. Blah blah blah vintager. ...

Re: Friday, July 13, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

All but The Natural in the Book category. Not bad for me. Lach Trash on "Pagoda" to run the "P" category. Can't say I've heard of a "minaret" before. The accidental 4-letter word was amusing. Got the correct response to FJ! before Alex was even done reading it. How the hell did he misread the clue a...

Re: Thursday, July 12, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Smithson seemed like a strange triple-stumper. Who else has an "Institution" named for them? I must have trouble parsing words, because I never for the life of me would've parsed that the "Smithsonian" was named for someone named Smithson. I even went "Wait whoa, never heard of that guy" when Alex ...

"Colorful berries" in the top box could be any of them.
Haaaaah. Not if you watch Jeopardy regularly and recognize that when the writers shoehorn "colorful" into a clue it means the correct response is going to have a color in its name.
Oh duh. Straw, rasp, and boysen aren't colors.

Re: Thursday, July 12, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I bit on the "do drugs"/"drive drunk" negbait. Such an easy trap. Ran the Hotel category. "Colorful berries" in the top box could be any of them. Couldn't think of a condition that "yoked" could be. I thought they wanted a medical condition. Well how am I supposed to... oh duh, 1970s. What's a 1970s...
