Re: LL83: Learned League

My seemingly inexorable shocking march to winning my C League Rundle continues as I have now won seven in a row (it helps being old and being pop culture savvy when I was growing up, which was the case yesterday with SCTV and Flash Gordon). Anyway, as I look on the detailed standings board to see ho...

Re: LL83: Learned League

I have no six packs this season, but still lead my C Rundle with a 12-4-4 record. I'm winning with defense because my total match points are far below those around me. It did help that I had my first forfeit win of the season on Friday where I got what is my usual number right (three). Boy, ...

Re: LL83: Learned League

I know this is old, but my most proud moment in Learned League so far was the COBRA question last week because I had no clue but figured out the TOM in the question. For some reason, my first reptilian guess was the cobra, then I visited non-snake critters (since he said "reptiles" and not "...

Re: LL83: Learned League

I'm starting to get very nervous about my success in my C league rundle. I suspected from the beginning that it was very soft and that is appearing to be the case. Usually I finish exactly at .500 give or take a point. This season, with pretty much the same number of match points I usually get, I'm ...

Re: LL83: Learned League

I should take off a few seasons more often. Apparently I then get to return in a new rundle of newer players. I'm off to my first 3-0 start ever and am the only undefeated and untied player in my rundle. :D About the only thing that went wrong for me this week (in terms of missing a question I shoul...

Re: Season 1 info

I confess that I actually felt kind of the same way when I first saw the rebooted Jeopardy in the first game when it originally aired. If you are used to something familiar for years that you liked and see something different, it's natural to show an initial dislike. I believe that it's also true th...

Re: Alex Trebek wins Emmy

If/When Alex has to leave the show, I would hope that Jeopardy would record a winner-take-all match between Brad, Ken and James for Alex's last hosted game.

Re: Rule Change Effective 4/29/19 - No More FJ! Shout-Outs

Even if the new rule meant that correct responses would be ruled incorrect with extraneous, not germane material, that would not completely eliminate "shout outs". As pointed out upthread, if you don't know the response and it would be incorrect anyway, there is no cost to you for the shout out. Mor...

never understand why they don't go with the keypad...typing is faster than writing
To say nothing of the fact that you have to start your Jeopardy journey by doing an online contestant test on a keypad.

Re: Thursday, February 28, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Well, now I know where Chris Claremont got the idea to name one of the Madripoor gangleaders in "Wolverine" "Tyger Tiger" back in the late 1980s. I always thought that it was a puzzling and stupid name. I never knew it came from Kipling. I thought that the aggressive wagers were foolish because the ...

Re: Adult Online Test: Apr 9, 10, 11

I can't think of any good reason why they would want a photo when you register unless they intend on using it during the selection process. This seems wrong. Okay, it's a TV show and I understand they would like telegenic contestants but it is so very contrary to the J! ethos. On the bright side, I...

Yes, but former three time Jeopardy champion Erin Zwiener won in a state representative race in Texas! https://www.statesman.com/news/20181106 ... in-suburbs

8-8-8 for me this season with the last day deciding where I get a 9 in my record.
Does that make you the Learned League Anitchrist?

Once again, I need a win to finish exactly at .500 and my lifetime record is just three above .500. Just call me Mr. Mediocrity.

I wasn't sure if this belonged in this thread or Retaken Down. https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/lo ... 61721.html

Note the egregious misspelling in the article title.

Re: LearnedLeague 77 - Official Thread

Is the glass half full or half empty? After finishing LL77 at exactly .500 (10-10-5), I finished the ML with a record of 4-4-3. Additionally, I finished LL76 just above water at 11-10-4. Another statistical oddity is that in the last two seasons and the ML combined I've had 12 ties after going a phe...

Re: LearnedLeague 77 - Official Thread

After my initial travails where my defense was sieve like and I was dead last, I rebounded to finish dead even, 10-10-5, and in seventh place in Laguna C. On the last day, my match was 8(5)-8(5). I thought that my opponent wouldn't know the full name of the ACA and my opponent thought that I wouldn'...

Re: LearnedLeague 77 - Official Thread

My opponent yesterday probably didn't think that I am regularly trying to be a Jeopardy contestant. I was assigned and received three points on the art question. Now art is one of my poorer categories but, as everyone here knows, Artist/Tahiti is Pavlovian for Gauguin. That gave me the win. Good fo...
