Re: Friday, July 14, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

In addition to the Greek-barbarians clue, the mating display was also confusing. I got both, but I was sharply focused on what they were looking for. Under the bright lights, I'm not surprised the contestants got them wrong.

Re: Wednesday, July 12, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

My brain went immediately to Osama Bin Laden, and no matter how much I insisted that 1957 was far too early for that to be correct, it refused to serve up another answer. Stupid brain. In '57 he'd have been a lot closer to 6" tall (and no beard -- probably ...) . :) The New York Times article appea...

Re: Tuesday, June 27, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Since it was the first clue, I didn't realize it was going to be all about colleges and went for Eton, which comes up in crosswords a lot as an "old English school" but is apparently neither on a river nor quite that old. West of London, though. Even though it has college in its name, Eton is a boa...

Re: Learned League 73 - Official Thread

And I regretfully guessed "polo" on the boxing question...my kickboxing instructor would kill me for missing that one! That is the one that shocked me most. I guess "Marquess of Queensbury" is not as well-known as I thought. I was too. As a female, I figured if I knew it immediately, so would every...

I'm late catching up on episodes. The mural was in last summer's Learned League Mini-League on the Renaissance. There was a 76% correct answer rate in identifying a specific artist. https://www.learnedleague.com/mini/ques ... ssance&2&6

Re: Tuesday, May 16, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Just a couple of hours before I watched this episode, I finished a story called "I'll Follow the Sun". The Beatles song played a small part in the plot. Shun is not the obvious antonym for follow. If the clue was "You'll Lead the Moon," it would have been easier. This guy could have been an imperfec...

REMINDER: NO DISCUSSION OF THE CURRENT DAY'S QUESTIONS! NONE WHATSOEVER! This includes seemingly harmless comments like,"Today's questions were hard," or "Today's questions were easy." If you must talk about questions while they are still active, speak privately with someone who has already submitt...

I know TPH has trouble telling actresses apart. Apparently many people have trouble telling actors apart as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGurtL83zhY

I went with Spotify for FJ.

Re: Tuesday, April 25, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Was this question just YEKIOYD? It seems most of the people who got it right in this thread instagot it, but otherwise, I still can't find a good way to get space travel from the clue. Space travel/astronomy is one of my stronger categories, but I still can't figure out how I was supposed to figure...

Re: Tuesday, April 25, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

No one has mentioned that Alan's pregnant platypus toy shouldn't have a baby inside, but only eggs. It's like an old Michelin tire commercial boasting about rain performance with a baby in a tire. The infant was using the tire as a boat, styled as Noah with pairs of stuffed animals, but two of them ...

I dated a girl born June 7, 1966. Her parents always told her she was born on June 6 until she saw her actual birth certificate. Her family was areligious. Patrick Troughton (Doctor Who #2) was in The Omen and got decapitated by a pane of glass. A brother of a friend was in Omen 3 and was eaten by b...

Would it have been dirty, or just sneaky, to throw in a 'Pete' clue in place of the extra 'Ringo' clue?
Or a "Stu" for that matter.

Officially, CIA Headquarters is called the "George Bush Center for Intelligence". Apparently there is an athletic shoe store called Iguana Falls in a Budapest outlet mall. Get enough drama kids in a room together and eventually they'll sing "One Day More" from Les Miserables . And it's the June Rebe...
