Re: Help Support JBoard!

Is there somewhere we can put a running list of volunteers? Maybe in the first post of this thread? I want to volunteer for the next available month, I just can't remember which ones are already taken (and I'm lazy and don't feel like re-reading the whole thread).

Re: My Dilemma

But seriously, from what I've heard, if/when you get the call, the Jeopardy! people, seeing as they want you to be on the show, will show great flexibility and work with you to make that happen. I would think that a reasonable professor will think to themself, "Self, I think I should be ok with thi...

When I got the first one in with that answer, I reread the questions and decided it would be acceptable, mainly for the reason that he was an assistant coach for us from 1988-92, went to Golden State for a minute, then came back here in 1996. ::smacks self:: I was unaware of the history you named, ...

...Most of the time the road is named after the people living on it. I think that's the standard for new street names. A coworker of mine built a house on his land, which was set back ~300 yards from the existing road with a paved driveway. Apparently the U.S. post office wants to name those types ...

Re: Reference books

If anybody can think of a way to exploit this, i'd be amused. You could run a deflating (multiplier < 1) pricing algorithm on books that aren't bought often. Wait for your algorithm to overpower the other guys' to spiral the price downward. Then, buy the resulting cheap books from them and remove y...

Re: Reference books

If anyone's interested, right now there are copies on Amazon Marketplace selling for $1.48. Thanks for the heads up - I just bought a copy! As an aspiring J! contestant, I've been pining for this book, I just couldn't justify the $50 pricetag for a used one. It seems some more copies have popped up...

This is exactly what I meant. My apologies for the confusing typo. Showing the meaningless wager last is pretty anticlimactic, in my opinion.

Re: National History Bee

Doesn't explain why all the top qualifiers were boys. It's probably a combination of many factors, not the least of which might be statistical anomaly. Considering we're looking at a sample of 10 contestants out of tens or hundreds of thousands of contestants (if not more), it's not necessarily tha...

Re: National Geography Bee

It'd be interesting (although severely messing with tradition) to see Jeopardy! do that if it fit the situation. I don't think it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to have Alex tweak the order of reveals depending on the situation. For instance, quite often the leader's wager is immaterial. ...

Re: Scoring / Analysis Tools for Practice

I [somewhat] recently built myself a scoresheet for use in Excel. I use it mostly when I'm "playing" a game from a j-archive on my lunch break, but you can use it while watching the show as well. When I get some time tonight I'll put a link and some screenshots in case anyone's interested in using i...
