Re: What was your buzzing strategy?
I had several buzzer analogs that I used to practice, and guess what -- they were all useless when it came to the real thing. I had practiced using my pointer finger instead of thumb, and that went right out the window once I was on set; it just wasn't going to work. I really had to adjust on the fl...

I finally succumbed, and have my Skype audition next week. Any ideas when they might start taping?

Re: For the LLamas Among Us
I knew that Michael Jordan/David Robinson question was the key to a potential coup for me. First, it was something in my worst subject that I could get right. Second, it was my opponent's second-worst subject, and I was sure that he, living in India, was not going to have the same lucky fluke of kn...

Re: Wednesday, November 12, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
I'm really surprised that Julia missed that FJ -- seemed obvious to me -- but even more surprised that she wagered anything. $16K is a great score for advancing to the semis. She must've felt good about the category (which makes the miss that much more perplexing...). Good game by Joshua, who had th...

All those years of plowing through Caldecott Award winning books as a child, and I never knew he was an illustrator!! Man, I would've bet the farm on this category and had a VERY red face at the reveal. I'm surprised (based on my own ignorance, of course) that it was a triple get! I was happy to run...

Another bleh game after yesterday's bleh game. What an FJ blunder... ouch! The returning champ seemed to have Reagan on her mind... after making him CIA Director yesterday. The clue said "fittingly" which instantly led me to Taft. Looks like Casey should have brushed up on basic Presidential trivia...

I also wonder if TPTB are pissed because they are paying out more prize money and have to pay contestants travel fees that didn't get to play during their scheduled two days. They usually have two or more people who are alternates from California for just these occasions, so travel costs aren't rea...

Re: Jeopardy! fonts - for font nerds
As a self-described font nerd, I appreciated this article on a number of levels. Thanks for sharing! I'm still shaking my head at the redesigned Daily Double graphic -- not particularly legible, and with really retrograde (and not in a good way) colors and font choice. Almost as bad as Comic Sans...

I've never eaten at a Good-bye Ruby Tuesday. Never even seen one. Google doesn't seem to be able to find any, even. You're not missing much. Agreed. Ate there once. Blech. If you like all of your food topped with a layer of cheese that can only be removed with a belt sander sporting 80 grit paper, ...

Re: So Excited... Friend Has Gotten "The Call"!
Buzzer timing and stamina are much more important aspects of the game if one hopes to win multiple times. I'll add getting a good night's sleep to that list. Yes!! And eating right. This is the time to try out some "nighttime" products (Advil PM, or is that Aleve??) if you have trouble sleeping. Th...

Re: So Excited... Friend Has Gotten "The Call"!
I'm of the camp of "study your butt off" until/unless the studying itself is completely stressing you out. Better to study wagering if you have no experience with that, as it will serve you as well (better, even?) than content knowledge. I also advocate taking breaks from studying to consider what y...

Do we assume that they would have accepted Quasimodo as an acceptable answer, despite the phrasing of the clue? By the time I guessed it, it would have been all I'd have had time to write!

Re: Heart of American Darkness
Joe Louis (it's always struck me as odd that, in the first half of the 20th century, Americans had little or no objection to a black man's pummeling a white man into near unconsciousness -- as Louis did to to most of his opponents -- in a boxing ring, but the idea of a black man playing alongside w...

I have several sparkly pipe cleaners left, as well as felt and Cheez-It boxes, so I can make a fake mustache if you'd like (could be modern Alex, classic Alex or handle-bar!). If you want more than one, just let me know! I also have Alex's genuine fake mustache (oxymoron?), but that's not leaving my...
