Re: J! in the Media

Alex Trebek Outlines ‘Jeopardy!’ Production Changes for When Taping Resumes: https://www.thewrap.com/alex-trebek-jeopardy-production-changes-filming-resumes/ I don't know how the local stations would feel about it, but J! having a 4-day schedule, with "Classic J!" on Friday (which I would guess is ...

Re: Tuesday, September 11, 1984 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Did Alex announce a nominal winner at the end of that game? Haven't seen the "live" version of it yet, but found it on the archive. "Because all of our contests wound up with nothing, we have consolation prizes for each of them. Tomorrow on Jeopardy!, we'll be bringing in 3 new players to play the ...

Re: Monday, September 10, 1984 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

All three contestants took shortcuts in their FJ answers that would be very risky to do today. Two of the candidates wrote bday and the champion left out day or birthday altogether. Can you say you're a hundred percent certain that all three of those responses would fly today? Caveat sourceum, but ...

The bendiness of the neon (I presume) lights behind the podium are triggering my OCD, particularly to the right of the second contestant.

Re: Monday, September 10 1984 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

One weird thing I noticed: the writers seemed to think that THE CALENDAR was a fascinating FJ! topic - clues that could have been in that category came up three times within the first four weeks of the show, according to the archive, and I don't think any of them would pass muster today (even accoun...

Re: J! in the Media

Alex was on Last Week Tonight tonight (not last week - although maybe it's last week if you're just reading this post in a week), in a taped segment from his home. It's all about how you can avoid being hoodwinked by conspiracy theories:

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

I'm assuming we're looking for the chance of a 500-500-500 tie after one category is exhausted in pre-doubled J!, right? In other words, one player gets 1+4, one player gets 2+3, and the third gets 5? We represent the players as x, y, z, and compute (x + y + z)^5 with the multinomial theorem. As an...

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

Thanks as always for the fast research. Good to know an opening straight down one category five clues to be split 1-4, 2-3 & 5 is not common. Any of our probability wonks want to help me calculate some odds here? How common would this be if a) each player knows the correct response to the first fiv...

Re: Reruns to start May 4th

This should have the full list for the upcoming shows: https://jboard.tv/images/Jeopardy_Summer2020Reruns-1.pdf If you asked Jeopardy fans to vote on the 20 most compelling episodes of all time, I doubt five celebrity games would make the list. The problem is the reruns aren't for superfans - they'...

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

Joe gets the honest dumbass award. At least it made no difference for anything. The clue stumped me and I could only guess a baseball player I knew died that year in hoping he got appointed to something of note. This is the game! I've mentioned it on this board a couple of times, but I always...

Re: Final Jeopardy! Clues

More on the "Landmarks" clue: The height of the Gateway Arch pretty much pins the clue. You could add the year, decade, or century if you were really worried about pinning it - or go on the fly, and see if someone else comes up with a monument that's 630 feet within a reasonable tolerance that also...

I can't remember if this has come up here before: LANDMARKS This 630-foot-tall landmark is arguably the most famous object in the world whose design is based on the hyperbolic cosine. What is the Gateway Arch? I like it! Gettable with a little thought. I took a slight detour to the Sydney Opera Hou...

Upon listening in slow motion, I think it's possible she was saying "Kristen," but it's ambiguous enough that TPTB had to give her the benefit of the doubt since Alex didn't ask her to repeat. (I thought I posted about this before, but apparently not.) I can definitely see how they missed it in the...

Re: A Math Question

My wife decided to buy chickens. She is hoping she doesn't end up with a rooster. She said the lot of birds the store gets their supply from claims 80% are hens. Since she bought 4 birds, I think the odds are 625:1 that one of them is a rooster. Am I correct? Embarrassing moment: The city boy here ...
