Re: Thursday, October 14, 2004 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

How'd people fare on the hockey clues? I went 5/5, but I thought the hardest one by far was the Islanders clue. Granted, Ken accidentally turned it into "name the OTHER team in New York", which should be a rebound for the brave. I'll admit, I'd NHO Bryan Trottier, but "dynasty in the early 80s" nai...

Re: Thursday, October 14, 2004 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Also, in the icing video - they couldn't have had Tie ice the puck? He gets it before the blue line, so it's a legal pass. Offside (though Ken said "offsides"), not icing. Sorry, brain malfunction. Yeah, I know the difference - and I even know it's not "offsideS". I was more distracted that Tie was...

Re: Season 37 Preemptions

Boston viewers will no longer need to worry about Alex's last episode on January 8 being preempted by Patriots All Access. Effective this week, WBZ is moving Patriots All Access is being moved to Saturdays, though this does mean the Saturday reruns will be preempted. Yup, thanks for the heads up - ...

Re: Friday, December 18, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I lost the coin flip on the Eagles song by guessing Glen Frye. Other than just knowing, is there a reason I should have guessed Don Henley? I mean, that was a pretty big song in the 80s. It hit #1 on the Billboard charts and got a Grammy nomination. When I was a kid, it was on the radio All. The. T...

Re: FJs for the 12/14/20 week

:(  :( :( :( :( NHO Joan Sutherland or Utzon, but had the vague idea she was operatic. Went with Lincoln Center because Moonstruck was lingering from the Cher clue a week or two ago, and because I go there once a year (most years). If asked, I would have guessed the Sydn...

Re: Friday, December 18, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The description of "Instaget guess" for FJ! fit me perfectly. It just seemed to scream Hallmark, and I couldn't come up with another viable response. Of course, considering that I'm a hunky but low-earning Christmas tree lot owner who's doing good deeds for a haughty city girl stuck in my small town...

Re: Thursday, December 17, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Well, at least I matched Brayden for FJ!...sort of. I think my answer of simply "Don Quixote" fit the clue a little better, since it was asking for a title character. "Man of La Mancha" would refer to the musical, while the full title translation is "The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha"...

Re: December 21-January 1 Reruns

I agree - I'm a little disappointed that they just copy/pasted the "Celebrating Alex / Best of Alex" episodes from Netflix/Hulu that were shown within the past year or so. I guess it's good for those who don't have the streaming services, but with well over 8,000 episodes, surely there are others? I...

Re: December 21-January 1 Reruns

All of the reruns were announced on Jeopardy!'s website. Most of the episodes were previously on Netflix and Hulu: December 21: October 14, 2004 December 22: April 4, 2006 December 23: September 27, 2007 December 24: November 6, 2007 December 25: January 15, 2009 December 28: November 23, 2009 Dece...

Re: Wednesday, December 16, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Lithotripsy was a weird clue. Kidney stones is certainly one correct response, but lithotripsy is also used for gallstones. I said "stones", and probably would have gone "gall" on a BMS. I hope they had that on the sheet - it would 100% be an easy reversal after a 2 second Google search. I had gall...

Re: Wednesday, December 16, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I too thought ROYALTY meant "Watch out - it's not necessarily British!", but I guessed the right answer. I was primed by a recent episode of Master Minds, which asked about the "divorced/beheaded/died" rhyme. I figured it was some oblique reference to the whole marriage annulment thing, but apparent...

Re: Tuesday, December 15, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

For those wondering about the provenance of tonight's FJ!...it (partially) came from The Man himself... https://twitter.com/Jeopardy/status/1339057665935175682?s=20 The issue came out on August 11, so if the show was taped on September 30th, that was certainly enough time for the contestants to have...

Re: Tuesday, December 15, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Instaget FJ!. Ellen had a bit on her talk show back in 2008 where she campaigned nonstop to get on the cover of O Magazine - and she did, in 2009, with Oprah. The whole bit was centered around the fact that Oprah is the only one who ever appears on the cover, so it was an easy get. Plus, I actually ...

Big, Little, No Bang for $600 was ABSOLUTELY ENORMOUS negbait for Hudson AND OF COURSE I BIT DOWN ON IT LIKE I ALWAYS DO. Nothing negbait about the clue. Nothing is baiting you towards one river or the other. Is it a YEKIOYD clue? Absolutely. Negbait? Nope. Well, if you were to Family Feud the stat...

Re: Monday, December 14, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I got preempted at 7:30 in Boston, right up to the last DD, but thanks to our local spheniscidae, I caught up. Whiffed on FJ!, and of course in retrospect it seems obvious. Probably an English-speaking place, given the singer's name. Architecture and music. If I'd gone past the Americas and Great Br...

Precalled (or pre-thought) the U-CAN states for the four corners, but didn't think they'd ask for all four! That's a mouthful, but I guess the judges give a reasonable amount of extra time. Have they ever asked for five (or more!) items in a clue? [...] There have been clues asking for all five Gre...

I can understand under the white hot spotlight how you'd get RBG mixed up with O'Connor, but timelines are vital to J!. Plus, I assume the time of this taping was within a month after Ginsburg passed. The timeline required knowledge of the exact year 1981. The year before that, 1980, Ruth Bader Gin...

Re: Friday, December 11, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Appomattox should not have been accepted for where Lee surrendered. Why not? Because the McLean house is in the village of Appomattox Court House, not Appomattox (which is a few miles to the west). I didn’t know there was a city of Appomattox. So his response was just plain wrong, not a shortened v...
