Re: Tuesday, June 5, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I was even looking up something related to Christie a couple of days ago, and it would never have occurred to me the mustache was notably fake. Was that mentioned in one of the major novels? Maybe the age vanity? Anyway, seems to fall into the category of clues related to current events that have a...

Re: Tuesday, June 5, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I felt FJ needed a TOM. I was trying to use the New York area and spent the next 29 seconds trying to remember the name of the Monopoly guy. I was even looking up something related to Christie a couple of days ago, and it would never have occurred to me the mustache was notably fake. Was that mentio...

Re: Sports Jeopardy! EP. 27 (3-23-16) [Spoilers]

That explains Alex's late-game sports taunt, which didn't seem warranted based on the ridiculous SJ category alone. You have quite a memory for faces.

Re: Technical Difficulties on Jeopardy! site

I had to start white-listing instead of accepting phone calls the "old-fashioned" way of using my answering machine to monitor calls. Seems that at least once a day the good people of Microsoft's south Asian division want to help me repair a serious security flaw in my operating system. Then someone...

Re: You guys are obsessed over wagering way too much.

Yeah, I think anyone following these threads and posting anything on this board is obsessed way too much. I mean, I grabbed my phone to look at recipes for potato salad, and I ended up here. Why is that? Reddit potato salad is far superior in every conceivable manner. And the people there don’t min...

Re: Sad Legal News About a Former Champion

It's not the promotion itself that makes people angry, obviously, it's the process. The person feels that he/she is under intense scrutiny, colleagues in the department are obligated to remain quiet about everything, here (though perhaps not at Adrian) outside experts are always asked to evaluate t...

Re: Sad Legal News About a Former Champion

Unless there's something unusual we don't know, this type of case is usually settled before trial with a plea deal. I doubt we ever learn anything more than we already have read. Hacking has as many definitions as there are hackers. This would qualify under some of the definitions, albeit really, re...

Re: Tuesday, May 1, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

My understanding is that they base FJ on expected pronunciation and whether a syllable would sound very wrong or is missing or added. FJ has never been a spelling test. I think they would have taken "Vetawn" if it came down to it. Not knowing or caring about fashion might have helped with that one. ...

Re: Sports Jeopardy Still Alive

I don't care for the interview segments either (unless I know a contestant) but if you desire to be on the show, it pays to watch them to help you shine at the contestant searches. Yes. Way back in the "old days" when you could take the test at the studio if you were visiting LA (that was my first ...

Re: Sports Jeopardy Still Alive

It would be great if it could find a home, but the format makes it a difficult fit anywhere. Trivia is far too nerdy for an audience like ESPN's always in search of the "hawt take" and Patrick's vision of Sports Jeopardy is far too whimsical for an audience like Jeopardy's, where the greatly reduced...

Re: Tuesday, April 17, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

That lyric category was my first 0/5 in a long time where I couldn't even offer a guess on any of them. In our area, the special report occluded FJ. We came back to see everyone congratulating Hannah. In reading the clue, I'd like to think I'd've resisted the superfluous "Suite" from my answer. I kn...

Re: Monday, April 16, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

So what were the keywords on this FJ! anyway? There's lots of immortality and there are lots of warriors in Greek mythology. Just an accumulation of basics regarding the Achilles story - name of the mother, immortal, many tries before she got it sort-of right. Plus he's pretty much the first warrio...

Re: Monday, April 9, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I agree that baseball is on a path to relative obscurity along with a lot of sports. Still don't like the rule proposal - if you're really going to take every 0-2 pitch, that's a great opportunity to try and hit a corner. Why remove the advantage gained by aggressive pitching? It would just add to t...

Re: Monday, April 9, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Quidditch, the imaginary pastime of elite Brits, generated plenty of enthusiasm and a full run. I did give my son a copy of the Hogwarts collection when he was younger. It's really good stuff compared to most YA. You don't need to have read the books 500 times to get those questions - they were pre...

Re: Monday, April 9, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

i have actually found so far this year that on nationally televised games, the breaks between half innings are shorter than in the previous years... Yes, that's a change they made to speed up the game this season, along with limiting the number of mound visits. Have you been to an MLB game in the p...

Re: Monday, April 9, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I guess knowledge is somewhat generational. Baseball, our former National Pastime, generated mostly sit and stares. Given the abysmal job MLB has done over the last couple of decades (game times increasing at a rate that would make the people at CERN blush, commercial breaks now longer than the game...

Re: Wednesday, March 21, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Yes, FJ was a bit easy - instaget and I'm hardly an expert on '60s movies. But I think you have to have grown up when the stabbing scene was part of pop culture to know it (I've never seen the movie, but the clip must be familiar because I can picture the scene). So it might not be accessible for y...

Re: Tuesday, March 20, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

It's more that reddit is everything-ism. Whatever anyone can find to bully/wear down/whatever someone else is fair game. There's a ton of good stuff there, but you have to work to find it and the larger subreddits are insufferable. I've been toying with a tool for analyzing FJ wagers. Analysis depen...

Re: Wednesday, March 21, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

8 clues unseen. Ouch. Lisa seemed pretty good on TRIPLE RHYME TIME getting 2 of the 3 that played. It could be that one more of those revealed could have given her the lead for the FJ! round. Of course Lisa has plenty of other spots in the game to have made up a $200 deficit. It's increasing the ra...
