Re: Tuesday, March 20, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I couldn't bring myself to call it a savvy wager, as much as it was penny wise & dollar foolish. I think it could be called a savant wager. If she wins enough games for contestants in the queue to pick up on her frugal wagering habits (2 for 2 at absolute minimum), she risks getting shot down by a ...

Re: Tuesday, March 13, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I have never read Rand. I have heard that she is someone you have to read when you're young (which, except in a literal sense, I am not). Oh well. I will try to look on the bright side. My mother was more upset over her death than John Belushi's. Generation gap. I think it more has to be read as qu...

Insta on FJ because I remembered The Fountainhead is considerably less than 1,000 pages in just about any regular format. Atlas Shrugged has a chapter about a radio broadcast that feels like it's 1,000 pages all on its own.

33-36-39 for me this week, with the Central being the "real" one. I think I'm slowly improving from year to year. I hope I get the email. This one seemed much easier - no WAGs unlike yesterday.

Re: 2018 Current Events Study Guide

After the game, NBC showed an episode of This is Us in which it was revealed that Jack Pearson (played by Milo Ventimiglia) saved his family (including the family dog) from the fire that burned down their house; however, he later died in the hospital as the result of smoke inhalation. I have a feel...

Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Central), March 7, 2018

This one's going to hurt. Came up with Vaniyu Dai with about a second to go. I doubt they accept it. Totally blanking on Airbus isn't making me happy, either. And I knew there would be a Shakespeare quote on there and I reviewed it enough to connect Twelfth Night to music be the food of love, and I ...

Thanks, Sherder. You might have the only Youtube channel I actually know about. Off to study for my "real" shot in a couple of hours. 33 off of the video - can't believe I had treason immediately and didn't see that one. Usually I hit 35-40 on one of the three, and the law of averages would be in my...

Re: Monday, February 26, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I don't care what the contestants do in the intro. It's really kind of an anachronistic way to begin the show. Maybe they could all come up from the floor like in Hunger Games? OK, MB - I'll take the over at 80% 8-) . Currently 17/19 I think, so it can roll over quickly. And we'll count each Canadi...

Re: Monday, February 26, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Maybe those who have been on recently could answer this, but are the producers telling contestants to do weird things during the intro? It's getting really old, fast. Are they putting the smiley-faces on the nameplates as well, or do contestants do that themselves? Hopefully, the handshake thing was...

Re: Thursday, February 22, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I live for the day when contestants will do a stand-and-stare at an Oscars or Broadway category the way they did with Talkin' Football. That's a real worry as entertainment is increasingly fragmented in the age of Youtube, Switch and Tinder. What are the touchstones of pop culture these days? You r...

Re: Thursday, February 22, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Congrats on a great run, Rob.

Yeah, ten clues unseen with some pretty good players involved. Ridiculous. Jeopardy this season is very different from past seasons. The format just doesn't work with the additional commercial time this season. Short-term financial gain over long-term harm.

Or, for us Harry Potter nerds, a "horacrux." Get all five on one board and you're ready for he who will do the naming (Johnny Gilbert) at the start of the next show.

Re: Friday, February 16, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Even knowing Kensington Gardens and the meaning of perambulator, I couldn't come up with anything. For 30 seconds, tried to force that info into something related to Oliver Twist. Lots of unseen clues. So many ads these days. They're even running ads in the middle of clues now - big sponsorship bloc...

Re: Wednesday, February 14, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I had to laugh at the champ's answer of Menomonie Wisconsin because it's a small college town that they will never ever ask about on Jeopardy. Plus it's nowhere near the 414 area code. As it's been pointed out, there is a Menomonee (Falls) - which is near Milwaukee. Who knew why Meonomonee (or Meno...

Mary Richards' apartment? The Mary Tyler Moore house in Minneapolis was sold recently. I don't remember what the closing price was but the asking price was 2 million. According to Zillow, it was listed at $2.9 million in 2012, went through several price changes, dropping to $1.7 million in 2016. It...

Re: Tuesday, February 13, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Nasdaq for $1,200 felt like another coinflip on Sam's Club vs. Costco, with absolutely nothing to narrow it If you did the TD just ended or even read its reveal you know that Walmart has the ticket symbol WMT which means it's listed on the New York Stock Exchange. All NASDAQ ticker symbols have fou...

Re: Monday, February 12, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Based on reading this item, definitely would have gotten FJ. We got WDIVed again today. Can't wait for the Olympics to end so we don't get these pre-emptions that aren't even on the schedule. Sports for people who don't like sports. I don't understand why Sony can't get another local station to run...

Re: Thursday, February 8, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I'll count FJ as an instaget off of reading this item, but (again) a massive two-handed gesture toward the worst affiliate in the country, WDIV in Detroit, for pre-empting Jeopardy (still on the schedule) so they could have sportsbunny Bernie do some Olympic promo thing. Sony should consider other o...

Re: Tuesday, February 6, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Even at a decent pace and without a paid promo category, they didn't come close to clearing either board. I'm really frustrated with the extra commercial this season. Another reluctant Republic here. Spent most of the clock trying to think if I knew "the one with the cave," but obviously that wouldn...
