Re: Friday, December 22, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

since multiple people have mentioned it, I wonder if Alex confused "this season" with "since the TOC."

Re: Friday, December 22, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Went with Johnny's Kingston WAG in FJ, so no perfect week for me; just another 4/5. I liked Donna even before her first DD wager. Even ignoring the strategic element, huge DD wagers are really good for the game. And given her interview plus fearless wagering, I wonder if she was tempted to clavin th...

Re: Thursday, December 21, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

"This B-52s song" semed like a coinflip on Rock Lobster/Love Shack. I don't see how that clue "made sense". "Influenza" was my only miss in the medical category. NBA's O'Neal is Shaquille, who goes by the nickname Shaq Cholera was *huge* neg-bait on the flu clue, not that I came up with that either

Re: Thursday, December 21, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Like the contestants, I was dreading the Literary Before & After, but I wish we'd gotten through all of it. It's in an area I've been working on. Happened to know Goldsmith's name so FJ was easy here. Recognized Hemingway as the "main" hint, but no way of knowing if it'd have gotten me to the right ...

Kate has played 1/9 Daily Doubles. No way it goes to 1/12, so I expect her to find one tomorrow.

Re: Monday, December 18, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Got American Gothic, but what nearly tripped me up was Grant Wood being the correct final response in Austin Rogers' fifth game just a couple months ago. I thought there was no way the writers would ask about essentially the same thing so close together, but sure enough... That's what it was. I had...

German and Flemish are close enough, and Dunes starts with "Dun" to boot. Ian's wager definitely confused me, although seeing it be above Sarah's doubled score does explain it.

If I had to guess why they put the colors into the clue: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_South_Korea
Not the same shades (and not the same symbol?), but close enough.

Re: Wednesday, December 6, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Took me a while to dredge up FJ. Long enough that light pen issues would have arisen. I managed to get it all down in time with pencil and paper, so I'm counting it. Wonder if "Roberts Rules" would suffice? I think that would be allowed. Colloquially, the phrase is often amended to "Robert's Rules"...

Re: Wednesday, November 29, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I'm not sure how we were meant to get lunatic fringe. "Fringe" was easy enough, but it's also not a phrase. I'm not sure how someone was meant to get the "lunatic" part without being an expert on nineteenth century hairstyles, aside from a lucky guess, since there are a lot of "fringe" phrases the ...

Re: Thursday, November 23, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I was a bit off on the wagers too, so I went to the archive calculator. It suggests Liz bet under 1800, Kiana between 301-3299, and Jessie to cover at 6001. But Jesse's wager turns out to beat a 3299 wager. Arguably, all three did players did fine.

Re: Tuesday, November 21, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

If "Sgt. Pepper" is an acceptible answer, then there is no question Wilbur's answer should be accepted. He gave additional info which wasn't wrong. Now if the complete title was necessary, ok then. Just say so. :| The affected contestant has so said: I asked. The judges wanted the complete album ti...

Re: Tuesday, November 21, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Seems like it would have been appropriate for the staff to mention during FJ that common short forms of the correct answer would be accepted, or something of that nature. Disappointing ending. That advice (if given specifically for this FJ) probably would have helped narrow down the answer too much...

Re: Thursday, November 16, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

iPad never occurred to me. If it had, "too big" might have gotten me off iPhone and onto iPad also. I'm still annoyed that they allowed those papal names without a number. I'm pretty sure I complained last time they accepted 'Benedict' without a number too, so I guess that's just how it works now. I...

Re: Wednesday, November 15, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Did anyone else say "signature" for the "watermark" clue? Signature was my first instinct, but I don't remember enough about the exact wording to know if it would have been accepted or not. Category was "Compound Words", so no. No love for "sig" and "nature?" :D fwiw I couldn't get "letterhead" out...

Re: Wednesday, November 15, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

First FJ get of the week. I had to get Benedict Arnold out of my head, which is only extremely tangentially related to France (and why the heck would anyone there have named a street for him). But I was able to figure it out with plenty of time.
