Re: LL69: for the LLama Drama

Glancing at my sidebar yesterday morning, I knew it was the time to do or die. I was playing my regular-season nemesis MolanderE, to whom I had lost 3 times in a row in the regular season (I beat him in a private rundle, but since those stats don't count...) and I knew it was the time to do or die....

Re: LL69: for the LLama Drama

I had another near-miss yesterday, saying "Bank of the United States" instead of the NYSE. I read the Chernow biography of Alexander Hamilton a few months ago and thought that was in there. Oh well. I won anyway. The questions that I found the easiest yesterday were the hardest for the league, and ...

I would also love a copy! I was on the road and missed it.

In other news, Cheyenne, WY has great Mexican food!

Re: LL69: for the LLama Drama

Do you think Thorsten put the "gamma" thing into Q2 so that people would start either mentally or on paper drawing what a cross made out of capital gammas would look like and then immediately scream and guiltily scribble everything out? I first drew it wrong, with upside down gammas scrunched toget...

This is a sweet sentiment, and I wish both Andrew and Buzzy the best, but don't rule out my buddy Jason Sterlacci! I think he's going to tear it up in the TOC.

Re: LL69: for the LLama Drama

Wasn't Lake Maracaibo a recent J! question? Like, the last few episodes? http://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=5257&highlight=Maracaibo New World $1,200. So, not SUPER recent. Just looked it up - ipso facto is LATIN! Jill for the win (er, lose). It also popped up on 500 Questions, if you were w...

Re: LL69: for the LLama Drama

When you start reading the philosophy question to your 14 yr old daughter, and she cuts you off with, "Duh, Mom, it's a priori. I mean, you put that, right?" No, honey, I put ipso facto, which, in retrospect, sounds Greek. I actually thought of Marion Barry for the notorious mayor, but ended up put...

Sorry to see our librarian go... good solid player! I, too, was rooting for Kelly. I felt a kinship with her. She seems like a smart, nice, Midwestern girl. My first job out of college was working for Dialog Information Services, an online information service which was staffed almost entirely by li...

Re: LL69: for the LLama Drama

I gave the Bill Clinton response 0 and feel justified because 1) It was the most common correct response, at 60%, and 2) My opponent was from Arkansas. But I lost on defensive points. I got scared away on Clinton, because I was afraid it was too obvious. Also lost a coin flip between Indonesia and ...

Re: LL69: for the LLama Drama

Yesterday's questions, when I opened them, gave me pause. I knew the acting coach answer, I just never could come up with it. I spent all day thinking - Lee, Lee, Lee? and ended up writing Marvin, for Lee Marvin, instead of Strasberg. So maybe I didn't actually know it? I talked myself out of the co...

TAROT CARDS $1000: No. 9: Howard Hughes lived as one for the last years of his life I took a neg with recluse guessing off the Hughes part. Since it doesn't hurt to ask, do tarot cards have any alternative names or only "hermit" fits both parts of the clue? I also said recluse. I got FJ! My daughte...

Re: LL69: for the LLama Drama

Had a lucky happenstance yesterday. Someone at work had just been talking about Uber. I looked at Learned League literally minutes later and that seemed to fit as well for Q1 as anything else I could think of. Hadn't heard of any of the other apps, so it was still a guess. First win of the season f...

Wow, Kelly's doing GREAT! She has the Julia Collins calm about her. These boards today clicked for me. I knew pretty much everything, including FJ. The sandals were the first giveaway for me. After that, it was the glasses. I thought the 70's songs category was fun. LT of Styron. Saskatchewan, autoc...

I said wrestling for FJ. I know it goes back before the Middle Ages, but the clue said, "at least."

Look out for those librarians!

Re: LL69: for the LLama Drama

Drank my first beer yesterday, which granted me my first LL victory! Congrats! :) I had not heard of the origins of "decimate." I said "tontine," which I knew was unlikely to be correct. Troy, I knew when I saw the answer. How convenient, right? I play you on Friday. Get worse by then, would you? :)

Megan here. I'm a glutton for punishment, so I'm trolling the boards right after my spectacular performance. I'm as disappointed as anyone that I didn't get Swiss Guard. Definitely knew it, just couldn't pull it out in time. Dunno what to say about the clicker noise, except my hands are tiny ...

Re: Friday, May 27, 2016 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

This game reminded me a lot of my last couple of games, in the sense that the champ was obviously tired and the challengers were fresh. Having been there, I know how much the back-to-back games take out of you. . I thought the same thing, Andrew! My mom even called me to tell me that Buzzy lost bec...
