Re: Wednesday, June 28, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I would have missed the Nighthawks question by answering Nighthawks at the Diner (as I am familiar with the Tom Waits album). I didn't know the shorter name was that of the painting. FJ was an instaget and I'm shocked only one contestant got it. My partner said "Nighthawks at the Diner" and I gave ...

Does anyone remember the exact wording of the "face palm" clue? Surrender Cobra might have been a valid response.

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

SCIENCE & NATURE $200: In the 19th century the plant pest phylloxera vitifoliae nearly wiped out this industry in France, Italy & Germany It's no $200 clue in my book, but Chris got wine without incident. The pest is a grapevine pest, so wine is the connection. Also it would seem guessing wine is p...

Re: Friday, April 28, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I've lived in NYC for over 20 years and I NHO the Easter bonnet parade. Googling tells me it's relatively informal compared to the parades I'm familiar with like the Puerto Rican Day Parade and the St. Patrick's Day Parade. It has also declined greatly in attendance over the decades. It is very inf...

Re: Friday, April 28, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Possibly I am the only one here who knows most of the score of the 1948 film by that name, starring Judy Garland and Fred Astaire. I am almost certain I am the only one who was singing it in their local pub last week. Sorry I wasn't in the pub to join in. I was singing it in my living room while Ra...

Re: Friday, April 28, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

If I had gotten The Call after early-June 2016 and for a tape date before Rachel's, she would not have been the first J! contestant who'd been to North Korea. :( Congrats to Alan on locking up his TOC spot. Very impressive, especially to end up with a lock after his initial DD miss (not sure why he...

In one of those weird coincidences that I think many Jeopardy watchers experience (see also "Slumdog Millionaire" moments) I am streaming old seasons of Amazing Race... and the contestants are bog snorkeling! What are the odds?

For the second game in a row there has been a tie for lowest score going into Double J. I know I've read before how they decide who goes first but I can't find it now. Anyone?
Leftmost of the tied podiums (from the camera's perspective) selects first.
Thank you.

What was the $1000 clue for Quechua? I don't think I've heard of that word. Was that lagniappe? I apparently have seen it before, since I knew how to spell it, but I didn't know what it meant. Thanks. That's it. It shows up as a response in the archive 2 times and is mentioned a 3rd time. According...

Re: Friday, April 28, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Spotted "Mud Hens" and "WTOL" for Pete's sake, and a contestant still misses it? (OK, maybe my get off of "Mud Hens" was based on my MASH fandom, although, when I heard WTOL and saw the reporter at a baseball diamond, I thought "I wonder if the clue will be about the Mud Hens?") Smart of them to sa...

Thank you for bringing that video here. I'm a total wreck from watching it. She really seems to have been such a genuinely thoughtful person, as well as lighthearted and funny. Her friends and family must miss her terribly. My heart goes out to them.

Re: Friday, November 4, 2016 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I just realized that I've been assuming that it's classical, for no real reason. (I guess I thought a pop music fan would be more likely to get a tattoo of lyrics than a staff.) It's the first measure of the soprano part of the Lachrymosa movement of Mozart's Requiem- I studied vocal performance in...

No, of course not. There are all kinds of other ways to get a virus.
