Re: Request for information regarding an upcoming episode (POTENTIAL SPOILERS)

Well I'm learning some weird stuff from this thread  . Me too. I think I've heard about "1488" somewhere before, but if asked, I would have said: "In 1488, Columbus had to wait." I guess I shouldn't be surprised given the recent kerfuffle in the space community over the name "Ultima Thule".

Odd connection for a family member for two of this week's clues: my father is a graduate of both Regis HS and the Coast Guard Academy.

That was one part failing to process....
Just as an aside, I think "Failure to Process" is the ideal title for a TPH memoir/biography/autobiography.

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

CINNAMON IS A SPICE?!?! As opposed to a ...? I dunno, plant? Bark? Well, actually, cinnamon is taken from the bark of a tree. My point is, it's not stored in my brain as a "spice". And I find that far too often, "Not stored in my brain as X" is what trips me up on both HQ Words and J! Just curious....

I didn’t realize the kid got stuck with such an unusual first and middle name.
Well, it's not like anyone was around to make fun of him.
Yeah, but I'm sure that whoever remained asked weekly, "What day is it?"

The headshake at young people today was crickets heard for Fibber McGee’s partner. The Christie play also going TS surprised me more as that appeared in a clue last season. Watch the show people. It helps. I have zero idea how 'Fibber McGee' triggered 'Molly' in my brain. Seriously. None. And yet I...

Thought we'd get a Monday Night Football category in DJ.
I'm for it, but one of the clues has to be:
"Dandy" Don Meredith once told the TV audience that a disgruntled fan making this gesture on camera meant "We're number 1."

I have no idea what made me think that the answer was going to be a member of the royal family and not even an author. I think "1990s British death" pushed my brain in the direction of Diana and had me stuck there. What was the TOM anyway? Or do you just have to know that's when Christopher Robin d...

For me, cwm is quite a memorable Welsh word because it is often cited as the lone "English" word lacking a vowel (steadfastly ignoring the role of w in Welsh). It means a small valley IIRC.
It is a valid Scrabble word so keep in mind if you play.

NHO garbanzo beans, swiss chard, bearnaise sauce, or tarragon either. HOW do you know all this ultra-fancy food?! I’d be willing to bet that canned garbanzo or chickpeas are sold in every supermarket in the U.S., and Swiss Chard in most of them. I've heard of chickpeas, but never knew that they had...

If you went to school in the US, I'm not sure how you can say that you never studied JFK in school. And, even if it was glossed over, the existence of a controversy about how JFK was killed is pretty hard to ignore since it gets brought up every single year on the anniversary of the shooting. It's ...

That was one ugly J! round as the players were slow to get untracked. Given my previous post in this thread, perhaps I shouldn't make this comment. To me, "untracked" is a negative thing, as in "derailed". Perhaps you meant "on track". Or perhaps the language is changing again without my knowledge ...

Dave Leffler's response " What is Daylight Savings Time ?" is grammatically ambiguous. It is more properly Daylight Saving Time or Daylight Time . The late William Safire, who at the time wrote the NY Times column On Language , addressed this in 1986: https://www.nytimes.com/1986/04/27/magazine/on-...

Did anyone take a music shortcut for the FJ! clue with “parrot” to “Parrothead” to Buffett to FL? That was the kind of thing in my head to entertain myself during think time.
Talk about negbait. A Parrothead would remember that JB was part owner of the Dolphins a few years back.

I went to GBA, thinking that was a better message.

Two things leading me away from SSB:
1. The lyrics are about a battle between US and UK,
2. The melody is from a British drinking song (Oh, that might be a positive).

We had a Uranus clue in this game. Contestants should get double the value if they add a guffaw to their response. Or they can at least add ", Alex?" to the end of their response. So much funnier to say "What is Uranus, Alex?" Maybe points for saying "Where" instead of "What" as well. We'll return ...

Looks like I've been doing the Vulcan hand sign wrong all these years - no trekkie here.

I was surprised the Obama chair is in Stockholm. The Peace Prize is awarded in Norway and there is a Nobel Peace Prize Museum on the waterfront in Oslo.

I went with Alien on FJ! as well. :(
