Re: 2010-11 Tournament of Champions Standings (spoilers)

Sara Heard's first game was shown tonight. In the last few months the regular runs of some of the participants from the 2010 ToC were shown on the Saturday night reruns. I can't help but wonder if this is a sign that Sara hung on to get that last spot in this year's ToC. But I guess if she was the ...

Re: Friday, September 23, 2011 Game Recap & Discussion(SPOIL

I've recently done a bit of reading about U.S. stock market history, which turned out to be helpful for today's FJ. It didn't take me long to determine the correct response. After getting FJ wrong on Monday, it was nice to get four in a row correct to close out the week. I feel the opposite, after ...

Re: new TD?

Once the dust settles from the SHC, would people be interested in a revival of the grand tradition of Think Different? I'm prepared to run a state-themed one if there's enough interest out there. We had started some, Vanya's one went dead. I am thinking of making one at some point, but theme is sti...

Re: Thursday, September 22, 2011 Game Recap & Disc (SPOILERS

And so continues the Justin Sausville saga. For me, Jeopardy round screamed easy. World Trade Center, Summer Vacation and Straits were all sweeps, very easy categories. Double Jeopardy round not so impressive, but got sweeps in Musical Stylings and Russian History (helps when your mother taught you ...

Re: Wednesday, September 21, 2011 Game Recap & Disc (SPOILER

Congrats to Justin; this wasn't his best game, but a win's a win. I'll be waiting to enter him into my calculation as soon as he loses. Interestingly, he's a former student of the woman who lives two houses down from me. She said she's not surprised at all that he's done well on the show. Belated c...

Re: Wednesday, September 21, 2011 Game Recap & Disc (SPOILER

It worked out, but that was a ballsy wager. That's one word for it. To be fair, though, it's probably what I would have wagered in the same position. As soon as I saw the category, I knew I would be getting my first miss of the new season. Given an infinite amount of guesses, I probably wouldn't ha...

Re: Wednesday, September 21, 2011 Game Recap & Disc (SPOILER

Jeopardy Round: 21/29. I love the Ken Jennings reference. That had me bursting out laughing. Also I need to add, Teenage has 3 Es, but I understand why Justin was negged, since he added Years. Overall, couldn't sweep, everything, best was 3 sets of 4, and a couple of 3s, meaning 21/29 revealed. That...

Re: Tuesday, September 20, 2011 Game Recap & Disc (SPOILERS)

Honestly, I was very surprised that triple stumpers occurred in Stately Rivers. In fact, that's rather depressing. The clues were very good at hinting the answers, and the Delaware River being $1000 was overvalued. Yes it is a trick question there, but that wasn't that hard. There is no such thing a...

Re: Monday, September 19, 2011 Game Recap & Discussion(SPOIL

I can't recall the clue now, but one in Word & Phrase Origins had the contestant give a slight variation on the standard phrase. Alex looked unsure for a second about accepting it. "Throwing the towel in" vice "Throwing in the towel." I thought they might have negged that, because the former, albei...

Re: 2010-11 Tournament of Champions Standings (spoilers)

I apologize if this has already been posted, but it is the first I have heard: it looks like the ToC will air Nov 2-15: http://www.jeopardy.com/news/season28.php Does that mean the tape date would be early or mid October? Paul needs to sweat it out at least several weeks. I remember Stefan saying i...

Stop trashing sanitation workers. I didn't make that comment expecting it to be a sanitation worker trashing thread. Apologies if it came off that way, but it was meant to make fun of the idea of specializing occupations. I mean, aside from dope dealers as an "occupation", there's not much lower on...

Re: Season 28 airdates

why have another teachers' tournament? There are other professions... Alex always says that teachers (along with students and lawyers) make the best contestants. There is no reason to have a special tournament just for them. Have one for professions who are under-represented on Jeopardy. Off-hand, ...
