Re: TPH on TPH, or How I Should Learn to Stop Worrying and Love the Show

How much do you write down? Like physically write down, not just type it on a computer? When faced with a top box clue I've NHO, I figure I should learn it. I write it down and do a quick wiki dive. The process of writing it down helps people retain information better, and you can then go back and r...

Re: Thread for Discussion on the Using the TPH Discussion Thread Thread

What does TPH stand for? I thought it might refer to "Ten Pound Hammer", but it could be anything, really.

Bugged by that DD3 wager. Even if the "one minute" bell hadn't tolled, there's only $4000 left on the board. I actually could see an argument for a $5 wager if you hate the category - you hope for time enough for one more clue to prevent a runaway. (You'd be wrong about the timing, and it would tur...

Without wasting a poll slot, who else here knew that Indian religious place?
Angkor Wat? The one in Cambodia? I've definitely heard of it, but couldn't identify it as a palace for Vishnu. I suppose I should have realized it was Hindu, but was totally off on it.

Went with "psychology" instead of "psichiatry". Is there a TOM for one over the other? A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (MD) and a psychologist is NOT. So if they ever talk about it in those terms, as they did tonight, go for psychiatry. I don't remember the wording, but I think there was somethi...

Not a good day for me. Should have had Trumbo. I had just looked him up a few days ago, maybe for Learned League, and recognized his picture and knew where he was from, but just couldn't pull the name.

I'm glad I don't know that much about music, because I instantly said "Cash" and never considered that Sinatra, Haggard, or Elvis might be a correct answer.

Ignoring the obvious apples/oranges logic there, yes, there are basic things you just have to know. Watts=Los Angeles is only slightly more obscure than Harlem=New York. Which is why I've literally never heard of Watts=LA before this clue came up, right? You asked for the TOM for that question, tha...

NHO Golden State Warriors to my knowledge either. Instead of saying "NHO" of some of these things, you should start accepting the fact that you don't know much about the subject at hand. Golden State Warriors is a team any NBA fan has heard of, and even if you're not following the NBA, you would kn...

Sigh... pulled defeat from the jaws of victory one again by poor defense. This time, it was assigning 3 to the literature question to someone whose Lit score is nearly their worst. And of course, they get it.

Any reason I should know William the Conqueror, especially when just spotted the years? 1066 and Battle of Hastings are Pavlovs for William the Conqueror. That was on one of the online tests last week. I go back to "war is absolutely boring". I know there is someone named William the Conqueror, but...

As a Winnie-the-Pooh fan, I must protest that Hundred Acre Woods, like Revelations, is flat out wrong. Playing at home, I said "Wood", and then I was worried if I'd get negged if I was on the show. Glad to know I was actually right. I might have corrected the writers about "Deathly Hollows" if I wa...

Kansas City Chiefs def. San Francisco 49ers 31-20 to win Super Bowl LIV. It's their first championship since Super Bowl IV in 1970, and the first title for KC head coach Andy Reid. KC quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named Super Bowl MVP. And just to clarify, the Chiefs represent Kansas City, Missou...

I'm still trying to figure out how Hawaii has Interstates.
Not sure if joking, but it's paid for by federal money, so follows (almost) the same naming conventions, even if it doesn't make sense.

7.) "This company with a sea name." Closed captioning said "C name" so I guessed Carnival. I'm not counting this as a neg on my scorecard, because I would have stayed clam had I not looked at the captioning. You're not the only one. Joshua lost a LOT of money on FJ!. 13400 * 2 = 26800. 26800 + 1 = 26801. 26801 - 21000 = 5801. 21000 - 5801 = 15199. 15199 > 13400. 15199 = $15199. $15199 + $1000 = $16199. At minimum. Please, for the sake of my own sanity - all you jboardies who have the wonderful opportunity to get on Jeopardy, l...

40 for me on the last test. The only one I had never, never heard of was Elena Ferrante, so I'm going to wiki dive into her right now. Stupidly put Morrison instead of Angelou. I'm guessing "Shallow" is from "A Star is Born"? I need to watch it. Should have gone with my gut with Wagner too, but didn...
