Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

Hell, you can use FOIL to multiply two-digit numbers: 34x12= (30x10)+(30x2)+(4x10)+(4x2)=300+60+40+8=408 34x12 isn't in (A+B)(C+D) format, though. So, 34 isn't 30+4 and 12 isn't 10+2? I literally never would have thought of it that way. This is why we need to teach it this way instead of the way we...

Hell, you can use FOIL to multiply two-digit numbers: 34x12= (30x10)+(30x2)+(4x10)+(4x2)=300+60+40+8=408 In fact, FOIL (aka the distributive property) is why the multiplication algorithm you learn in third grade works. Technically, I always used “FOIL” incorrectly - I expanded its meaning to any us...

Re: Help with a Jeopardy-themed marriage proposal

Hmm. I like where you're going, creatively and conceptually, but please don't make her the equivalent to a female sheep in your marriage proposal. Baaaa-d idea, from a woman's POV. Hilarious to a guy, I'm sure. 1. Though his full name is one of the most famous in all English literature, his friends...

Re: LL83: Learned League

My first run in C is ending about as expected right now. In relegation zone, but mathematically not out of it. I need to win, need the girl above me to lose, and I need to make up 3 MDP in the process. Not looking good, but I really belong in D anyways, so oh well.

There is anaphylaxis, an allergic reaction which can lead to anaphylactic shock, but there is no such word as "anaphylaxic" in the medical lexicon.
Would "anaphylaxis" by itself have been accepted?

Ancient History for $400 once again goes without someone saying "WHAT! IS! SPARTA!"
If I ever get on the show, I will do this. It'll be even more hilarious if it's wrong.

Re: LL83: Learned League

I was pretty happy about getting 4 and still lost 4(4)-8(4). I know I really don't belong in C rundle, so I'm pretty much guaranteed to get relegated back to D, where I normally belong.

Re: Thursday, December 12, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I just don’t get it. 6-day champion who has won a bundle of money. You would think that the odds that you will get FJ while the champion misses FJ are rather small. Betting a combined $4K on two DDs in DJ essentially is conceding the game. I can see betting the minimum if you absolutely hate the ca...

ETA: CRAP!!!! Now that I've posted this, immediately after I remember the person I was thinking of: Stacey Q! I guess this means as of yesterday (and too late to get that Australian money), I did make up the name Suzi Q This is some Mandela Effect going on here, because I thought Suzi Q was a real ...

Do you not know anything about any of them? Not the names, but maybe what their famous for? Hint, look at the years. Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

Do you notice anything in common between say, WHH and JFK with regards to these Presidents? No. I can't even remember out of eight planets which is the largest. Literally look at that list. Is there anything that sticks out about commonalities between any of them? Jefferson 1801-1809 (3rd President...

Re: Monday, December 9, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I have tried ten billion times to memorize any of the presidents pre-FDR and they Will. Not. Stick. Hell, half the time I'm not sure that some of the 19th-century presidents even existed, they come up so rarely. Try not to memorize all of them at once. Take them in chunks. Let's start with Presiden...

Sigh... I don't know how to defense apparently. Reverse Mortgage - 73% get it right, I assign 0 to my .750 Bus/Econ opponent. He misses it. Wuthering - 41% get it right, I assign 2 to it, he gets it. Lose 3(3)-4(3) Player stats are merely a starting point! Maybe focus on relative difficulty of the ...

The Greek name for the city was Neapolis. If you can't see how they got from "Neapolis" to "Naples", I don't know what to tell you.
You know how TPH hates "sounds-like" or "looks-like" hints. It could have been ANY Italian city.

If you know one, you know the other.
I certainly didn't. I figured Nixon with the timeframe and didn't know who Frost was. After I saw the answer, I vaguely recollect Frost's name, but I would never have gotten both.
