Re: Learned League 73 - Official Thread

These minileagues have been fun, but the contrast between them is impressive. I'm not doing much more than assigning defense for the golden age of TV league. I'm doing ok in the travel one, and it is a pretty good quiz. I'm really enjoying the American West league though - great questions that are ...

Re: Learned League 73 - Official Thread

I'm not officially in the TV ML, since I don't watch a whole lot of it. But, playing from the sideline, I'm getting 2-3 questions right each day, not that much lower than my normal TV percentage. And that doesn't count a few questions that I may have gotten had I thought longer. Maybe the ML is pola...

Re: Monday, June 19, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Numerous legacy airlines had their roots in either crop-dusting or mail delivery services, so "first passenger flight" is not a phraseology that would be uniquely required for Delta. I knew Southwest was definitely a passenger service from the get-go. And American may have been for all I knew at th...

Re: Monday, June 19, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

For some reason I have seen the fact that Delta started as a cropdusting company pop up multiple times, which got triggered when "first passenger flight" stuck out to me; Southwest and American probably wouldn't have required that phrasing. The cities were the clincher. Edit: The clue linked in hbom...

Re: Learned League 73 - Official Thread

I talked myself out of the right answer on at least 3 questions. For Massachusetts, I figured the state is surrounded by water but then I looked at the date of 1890 and switched to air thinking of coal burning emissions I waffled between air and water for a while. I eventually decided once I notice...

Re: Learned League 73 - Official Thread

I looked at advance access the night before the season started. Only the first 5 or so match days were available at that time. It seems that advance access only goes as far as Thorsten has the questions completely finalized.

Re: Learned League 73 - Official Thread

I got a gift from my opponent when they gave me 2 points for the Dow Jones question and zero for Chipotle. Is there some way people are supposed to know this without eating at Chipotle? Barbacoa is a pretty standard term; you see it at taco trucks all the time. I assume the Chipotle reference was j...

I never knew Midway was named for the battle. I just thought they called it that because it is midway across the country between NYC and LA.

I learned something today. Thank you.
You might remember this famous FJ clue:

Re: Airports named out of context (6/1 SPOILER)

Lindbergh (no connection to Sandy Eggo). Why is airport in MN where he's from or St. Louis not named for him? Aside from the fact that it's not called Lindbergh Field any more, there is this: http://www.san.org/education/history There is talk of naming an airport after Obama. Midway would be fittin...

I don't remember the exact wording, but I don't understand the response of 'imaginary number'
for the 'unit' which is the square root of negative 1. An 'imaginary number' isn't a 'unit'.
Well, there is this... although somehow I doubt that's what the writers had in mind.
