Re: Wednesday, September 16, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

It seemed like Kevin got a raw deal on Belgian waffles. He responded to Alex's BMS prompt just as his original timer bar ran out. It seems like a contestant would get extra time if they have to respond and then respond to a prompt. Agreed. And also, I kept waiting for the reversal on the Steinway c...

Re: Wednesday, September 16, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

That was a triple stumper?? Is 1999 ancient history? And that seemed pretty lenient on the Wolf Hall response; it's not like there was only one famous Cromwell. Not 'ancient history', but 'a movie about censorship' isn't exactly the first thing that comes to mind if someone says 'Describe the South...

Pop-culture TS's from people younger than me on stuff that I know usually annoy me, but after some thought, I'm glad that the Doobie Brothers were a TS,simply because a McDonald song was used. If it had been 'Black Water', or 'Long Train Runnin'*" or anything from the 'non-sucky synonymous with pre-...

Yes, either works, but you add a "t" to the end?
'Gift minus t'. It actually t-took me a second t-to figure out that he wasn't-t t-typing with a s-t-tutt-t-er.

50/50 for FJ between Portugal and Netherlands--picked the wrong one  Some embarassing misses in the website category--Alcoholics' Anonymous for American Airlines, and the state of Virginia for Veterans' Affairs. I knew Alcoholics Anonymous wouldn't have been a.com anyway, but since I'm an inf...

That's true, but I don't think it's ever been acknowledged on the show, which is the same as 'it never happened'. :)

Bohemian Rhapsody as the 'A' side to We Are the Champions? Top 5 all-time bad response right there. Especially in the U.S., where We Will Rock You and WATC are almost always played back-to-back. Same here. Bugs the hell out of me when I hear it because I can't think of any other time where two song...

Re: Thursday, July 16, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I couldn't pull out Zola and put down Jules Verne just to have something. Sigh, ditto. I knew exactly who they were talking about--how could it be anybody else?--but just couldn't pull the name. Same here. They ask about Zola and/or Dreyfus at least twice a year, and I knew that, but just because i...

Re: Friday, June 5, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I'm still not sure how the phrase "Art for art's sake" traces back to Oscar Wilde. At the very least, it fails the Wikipedia test, where Wilde's name isn't mentioned in the history of the motto, nor can the motto be found in his. If you want to stick with Wikipedia, in this case you can cross-refer...

Not that it mattered in the end thanks to a nasty (IMO) FJ clue. What? If you know anything about MGM, you know Ars Gratia Artis. Plus, Oscar Wilde and Reading Gaol. Come on dude. Connect the dots. The writers used to love doing an Oscar Wilde clue every couple of months, but nobody ever got them, ...

It did seem hard for the value. I actually like the Silmarillion. So do I. I just can't read it. That makes me laugh. Did you read all the appendices at the end of Return of the King? If I did, it was just the once, and mostly so I could say that I had done so. That possibility is rendered a...
