Re: 2012 Summer Hiatus Challenge -- Round 1 Instant Replay Thread

Is the scoreboard updated as users post answers? It's updated when I get around to running the script that parses answers from the forum. I would schedule the script to run regularly on the server, but it appears to be disallowed, and I don't know how to fix that. Until then, I manually run the scr...

Re: 2012 Summer Hiatus Challenge -- Round 1 Instant Replay Thread

There may be a problem with the question regarding the patron saint of the Armenian Church (which I clammed). The SHC 's two resident geniuses, Schliemann and Austin Powers, answered Bartholomew. I looked it up on the church website, and their answer was Gregory the Illuminator. I actually found th...

Current standings are available: http://shc2012.gregorygauthier.com/standings.php not that it matters as I am at the bottom, but did I lose points for spelling "rickshaw" wrong? No you did not; you are credited with a correct answer for the 4-pointer. You lost 4 points on the 8-pointer for your res...

Re: 2012 Summer Hiatus Challenge -- Round 1 Instant Replay Thread

A few questions from me based on the answers I've seen so far (R1D2 spoilers ahead): For the 8-pointer, I'm not sure whether the clue has one correct response. It seems that Nathanael was the intended answer (John 1:46), but the Armenian church was founded by Thaddeus and Bartholemew. (EDIT: My Worl...

Re: 2012 Summer Hiatus Challenge -- Round 1 Instant Replay Thread

None of the scores are showing up on my browser (Firefox 2.0). Mozilla no longer supports Firefox 2, and there are security issues whose patches will not be backported to Firefox 2 (see http://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox20.html ). If you have the ability/permission, you s...

Re: 2012 Summer Hiatus Challenge -- Round 1 Instant Replay Thread

I clammed on rickshaw because I don't see how it can be a Japanese word. The syllables don't end in vowels or n. Please enlighten me with its actual Japanese origin. A rickshaw is more properly known as a jinriksha , which is derived from the Japanese jinrikisha , coming from jin (person) + riki (s...

Can you send me the writer's guide? I am interested in writing and did not see this thread until just now. Also, I am working on software and a server to keep track of scoring the SHC. I have a GitHub page , but there is no real content yet (although I will post it as soon as it's developed and pers...

Re: Reretaken Down

I'm considering creating software to run the SHC this summer. If I do create it, I should have it on GitHub. I can also probably find a server to host it, too.

By the way, does anyone know what permissions are needed to create new topics or send PMs? I can't seem to be able to do so.
