Don't let it be forgot that I once held that spot

I scored two 9(6)s in a row in the first two match days, leaving me in the #1 spot in A Highland. I believe next comes a great earthquake, and the sun will become as black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon will become as blood. Early success is quite ominous; a quirk of question distribution, meani...

Re: LL68: For the LLamas

So you should only say something when you get all six or none, and defense can't affect your score, right? In that case, defense can't affect your score, but why should your opponent be spared all the agonizing, second-guessing, and tergiversation that the rest of us go through? Getting a break on ...

Re: LL68: For the LLamas

Yes, so don't talk about them at all. But I believe it's okay to admit you did horribly , which I did. First time jitters. Eeek. Even that is not a good idea. If your opponent reads this (and believes you), then he or she may assume that it is not necessary to agonize over assigning defensive point...

A Highland, in keeping with my heritage. Also in keeping with my heritage, I am going to drink a lot of whiskey and cry "Freedom!" just before my antagonists decapitate me.

Re: Winter 2016 LL ML and 1DS thread

I have resigned myself to never making it into the finals of a MiniLeague. In my rundle for the Japan ML, I have the most TCA (51; the next two highest are 49 and 45), and I should, since I lived there for almost three years. But I entered Day 11 in 3rd place, having lost two matches (one to Schlie...

Re: Monday, February 1, 2016 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Frustratingly vague Final Jeopardy. Not a fan of that kind of clue. (I did guess correctly, but it was a straight-up guess.) I'll go further and say that clue is straight up awful. I guessed it right, but whoo-boy, I'm not sure what the writers were thinking. I recognized the quotation instantly, b...

Re: Does anyone outside this board care about your trivia knowledge?

konstava, for some perspective, consider the parallels and differences between trivia and another, far more popular, mental activity: crossword puzzles. The number of people willing to pay to solve crossword puzzles exceeds the number willing to pay to answer trivia questions by several orders of ma...

Re: Does anyone outside this board care about your trivia knowledge?

If we never get selected for the show, does our knowledge add any value to our life? It won't help us to get a better job. Is it even worth mentioning outside of this board? When lawyers pass BAR exam or accountants pass CPA exam, it opens up a clear path to financial rewards, respect, stability. W...

Re: Who thinks that Jeopardy selection model is unfair?

In my opinion it's absolutely unjust to select people at random 1) "Random" plays only a small part in the selection process. 2) "Justice" plays an even smaller part. The Jeopardy! selection process is casting. Your complaint is analogous to complaining, "It's absolutely unjust to select people at ...

Interesting. My primary association with Chino Hills, having grown up near there, is the pervasive smell of cow manure. Heck, that's my primary association with Chino Hills, having driven the 15 near there a few times. Are you a native of Southern California? I notice you say "the 15". I'm a native...

Re: LL67 (For the LLamas Among Us)

When I visited Philadelphia for the first time in the 1988, I was delighted when my friends and I ended up on South Street, and I kept exclaiming, "Oh my god, this is *the* South Street! Like the song! By the Orlons! 'Meet me on South Street!'" My friends all looked at me with blank and vaguely wary...

...I debated between Good Times and The Jeffersons , settling on the latter (despite not having a great feeling about it). In a keeping it "all in the family" instance, "Movin' on Up" was co-written by Ja'net Dubois, who was the oldest Evans daughter on Good Times. Not the oldest Evans daughter; sh...

Re: LL67 (For the LLamas Among Us)

I just looked at my "Personal Records". This season I set a new record for "Most Total Correct Answers, Season" . . . and tied my record for "Most Losses, Season". Next season I'm not going to try so hard.
