Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

I was floored that 50% thought the Great Salt Lake is larger than Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. I'd say that most of that 50% couldn't name any other "Great" lakes and decided that some answer is better than no answer. I thought the two lakes were Great Salt & Great Slave. I actually put down the fir...

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

I was judged to be correct with “silica.” Science isn’t my strongest area but I was able to see si-al & went from there. I’m in 4th place in my rundle. I hope it’s a ton of geography next week!

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

I went with porcini which I doubted was correct but I was surprised at chanterelle. I knew Bryson, Tennessee, and illustrator. I happened to be in ireland during the abortion campaign so that was easy. Thanks for the notice about the mid-season classic. I usually forget that!

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

I’ve tried both of those cheesesteak places a few times. One had black & white tile but it’s been a while. Passyunk is around the stadium area. I hope none of that’s burning tonight!

Either J! or MasterMinds had a Marc Chagall question recently. I’m pretty good with European & American art.

Not to get all Lucario but how does jennings think Cedar Point is in Dayton? And in the question about Athens the challenger gave a Roman name.

Re: Monday, May 25, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Usually the Teachers Tournament is quite a bit easier so it was nice to see this game. Wasn’t American Dirt the center of a scandal for veracity? I’m planning (well, it’s on hold now!) to the Dakotas, Montana, and Idaho in late summer so I was able to get FJ. If not for the trip planning, I probably...

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

Didn’t Jeopardy feature the American Gothic house on the show the night before this LL? I won my match by correctly analyzing my opponent’s relative weakness. At the last minute I changed the Rock Hudson value from 1 to 2 pts & I ended up winning by one!

That douchey writer might look down on Mick Mulvaney’s C Rundle performance but MM is usually midway in his rundle. And the writer has spent 15 of 17 seasons in C rundles so he shouldn’t look down on anyone. Anyway, new season begins today!

Re: Wednesday, April 29, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I have to admit we all laughed when Alwin mistook Miss Jackson for Frankie’s half-sister. Now that I know that he’s blind in one eye, I feel terrible. And JJ did seem to have that ponytail. Easy FJ today for me since I read ATOTC last year. Great book.

Re: Tuesday, April 28, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The best ATCs work at en route centers & approach controls. Tower flowers get all the glory for some reason. The last prez counts Sendak’s books as one of his faves? Dummy. I watched Ben Hur a couple of weeks ago on TCM. It’s 4 hours long. I did get this FJ but I wasn’t very confident so I was glad ...

Re: Monday, April 27, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I was glad to see Sarah repeat, especially after her interview segment! I happened to read Grant and Lee by John Fuller a few weeks ago so that’s why I got this FJ. I love trying to say “zloty” correctly but I’m not sure I ever conquered it. This is the last week of new shows for awhile, right? But ...

Re: Trebek's replacement: short bench

I didn't spend the time cruising thru this entire thread to see if she'd been mentioned, but I nominate Brooke Burns from GSN. She's smart, experienced, deals with speedy question reading extremely well, doesn't seem uncomfortable with extremely brainy people at all, and speaks very clearly... And ...

Harry lives down the road from me but I never see him at Quigley’s Pub Trivia. I was rooting for him but he missed a pretty easy Olympics question.

Thank you! Several of those shopping ones, I was like "how TF was I supposed to know THAT?" They seemed to be aiming way too upmarket. I live in a state with only one Zara and none of Uniqlo or Topshop (although there is a Topshop just across the border in Windsor). All the ones I'm finding in most...

Ugh, I can’t stand Kimmel. And it’s not even regular people? I’ve set my DVR to record this but I’ll probably hate watch it.

I was disappointed that I was too late to register for 70’s music but yes, that was brutal! I did get BJ Cassidy’s hit, Chic, and Pop Muzik. That cuisine thing is even tougher!

Lately many of the games have been uninspiring. I’m glad to finally see a repeat winner but who would think Hearst was a Hungarian? When his descendant Patty Hearst was kidnapped much was made of her pedigree.

I got Pulitzer instantly but that quote is a whole lot of nothing.

I’m pretty good with geography but I totally blew that one! I said Alberta & Manitoba! I’ve tried using that pneumonic device (BASM) but I forgot it when it counted. How many days in a row is it for one hit wonders?
