I had a stopover at Roy Indiana's "Love" piece, but made it to
"Did you call me Roy?"
That was my first inclination; I wasn't sure it was right, verified his name was Robert, and then with the confidence of that verification, reverted without noticing. Editing now.

Re: Wednesday, March 31, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I had a stopover at Robert Indiana's "Love" piece, but made it to I ♥ NY with time to spare. It would have been helpful to Bryce not to have hit the last DD (provided he knew how to wager from a trailing position, and provided whoever did hit it didn't make it mathematically impossible for him to wi...

Anyone else slightly bothered and thrown off by Battlestar Galactica being abbrev. as BSG and not BG?
I've seen it abbreviated that way before. Plus the category didn't specify that anything would be strictly abbreviated to initials.

I don't get it...why would anybody guess Edwin Booth? Just to be perverse?
Because they're a smartass who's not quite smart enough to avoid what they've got coming!

"The Michelin tire drinks the obstacle"? Maybe that has some other meaning in French?
Wikipedia has this interpretation: "The implication is that Michelin tyres will easily take on road hazards."

Re: Final Jeopardy! Clues

U.S. PRESIDENTS THE LAST PRESIDENT WHO WAS NEITHER A REPUBLICAN NOR A DEMOCRAT WAS ELECTED IN THIS DECADE. What is the 1840s? This clue makes me uncomfortable because it's reasonable to infer "was elected president" from the context of the clue, but the last non-Democratic, non-Republican president...

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

Moving on to the next India tape, we have Wednesday, December 11, 1991, Eric Goldner vs. Gail Bullion vs. Glenn Gillis. A few small corrections/comments: I assume GRIMM'S FAIRY TALES $400 isn't supposed to have that period at the end. Was dendrochronology hyphenated, or split between two lines with...

I got spoiled on Monday's FJ, and I'm counting it as a get.

I had both spellings for /sæˈʃeɪ/.
I got schuss, but pronounced it as "shush"; I would have proactively spelled it if on the show.

Credit where credit is due: nice job by Dr. Oz to tie Susan's correct FJ response to her interview topic of visiting national parks.

Irrawaddy was a clue in one of my UToC games (probably my favorite game I actually won).
Shortly after I learned of the Irrawaddy (via an AP headline I saw on TransitTV while riding the bus), I believe I submitted a correction suggestion for J! Archive's spelling "Irawadi" for that game.

I wonder if Amal was instructed beforehand to whistle a tune that is in the public domain.
Dr. Oz steered him in that direction by asking for "something classical." Maybe they were both instructed beforehand.

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

In Dale's first game he won $12,400 getting FJ right from second place. In Dale's third game, he's announced with a two-day total of $24,600, and loses while offering a tie from the lead. So he won his second game with $12,200, and I assume two possibilities: - Risa worked her way up to $6,100 with ...

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

I don't have anything "new old" to share, but I just wanted to put some information, amassed from Roadgeek Adam's 1986 newspaper postings in this thread , in a convenient (not to mention searchable) place. To start off with, from one article he's got Lionel Goldbart's initial five shows dated as Feb...

Re: The all-time Jeopardy! leaderboard (1984-present)

Also, please, if you can find any relevant information on Barbara Lowe's run and how much she won, that would really help me complete this list in making it more accurate. The $50,000 figure for her seems to have been an exaggeration. In a thread about her when video of her second FJ surfaced, Road...

Re: Monday, March 22, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I got spoiled on FJ during the commercial, because someone in an unrelated discussion on FB posted a screenshot of their text messages that happened to include some discussion of it. I do bear some of the blame, though, because the person did apologize for the FJ spoilers, and not seeing a day speci...

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

Thanks & thanks As for "Bashful and Doc" coming last, Bashful obviously has to come after all the "-y" names, and the simple matter of meter dictates that "and Doc" has to come at the end. I don't say "and," but your point stands. Nevertheless, I feel some sense that I had previously heard the name...

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

What does Alex say after "When the weather is right,..." at 7:17? "God's kingdom." I certainly remember that "name the seven dwarfs" Disney commercial at 5:29, and trying my own memory every time it came on. Not a skill Jeopardy! has ever required, at least in any archived games. I don't remember t...

Re: FJs for the 3/15/21 week

I figured out what "HBU" must mean once Grambling was revealed, but it was quite mysterious up till then. I figured it out on the fly, and I'm glad individual institutions don't get "HBCU" attached to them; that would be like those pharmaceutical commercials where one woman talks about "my moderate...
