Considering how he dominated his games, 10 doesn't seem like very many. But three in a row is definitely impressive.

If I had 50 cents for every math question I got right, I'd have $6.30 by now.

Here's another nice Messalina you've gotten me into!

quote="Austin Powers"]I thought the FJ was a little silly - it might as well have been an Oscar category. Shameless memorizers like myself will know the first line, but unless you've read the book there's no reason it should lead you to "The Color Purple."[/quote]

An easy FJ, though not the best clue. If one thinks of when the movie was released, and that the clue's quote was less than grammatical, it led pretty quickly to The Color Purple.

I'd have gotten it from I, Claudius many, many years ago, if I hadn't gotten it from the movie Demetrius and the Gladiators many, many, many, many years ago.

I did see that movie, long ago when I thought Victor Mature was attractive, and before watching I, Claudius back in the 70s. But without any real knowledge of Roman history, I was never very sure that the movie's Messalina was supposed to be Claudius' wife. Until now, when I can check on Wikipedia and/or IMDB. But seriously, Susan Hayward? As a Roman woman? She didn't have the correct British accent for all Romans in movies and TV!
"And has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"
He chortled in his joy.

FWIW I have never read "The Color Purple," and saw the movie so long ago that I can't recall much of the detail. Granted, this first line isn't perhaps as well known as "Call me Ishmael" or "It was the best of times...." But there was enough TOM that I thought of it instantly and never thought of anything else.

A really well known work, the vintage, the dialect...yeah, it was plenty.

Thought Kris was very impressive in locking this game totally. We may indeed be seeing him in the next ToC.

I would have loved being in this game, as I ran Idioms and 1892 and had several other 4/5 categories. Don't remember who got Achille Lauro, but that was indeed a nice get. When I read the clue I pegged it as a triple stumper. I also don't usually shine in movie-related categories, but picked up Lach Trash on Driving Miss Daisy and Giant.

Kris' strength seems to be buzzer speed. You could see the frustration on the competitors. There's been an awful lot of tasty Lach trash on the bottom of the boards.

Um, TPH, I think this is more a Loggins & Messina or Messina, Italy, crowd as opposed to Jo Dee Messina, though it's certainly conceivable to appreciate all three. I even picked up Jo Dee's autograph at a NASCAR-and-country-music show.

Great. Now my lowbrow roots are showing.
Thanks, cinemaniax7. I had no idea what TPH was referring to, as I'm not much of a country music fan.

Or it could be referring to Messina, NY where a power dam lives

Wondering about that. He seems to have buzzer speed, but he's either hesitant or unsure on tough clues outside his wheelhouse. It'll be interesting if he comes up against a 'bottom row warrior.' That would make for an interesting match of styles. If he makes the TOC (a good bet, I'd say), that could well be his downfall.

27200 for me, including getting all fifteen of the clues on the left side of the board in the first round. FJ was a quick get for me, as it's one of those first lines that pops up often in quizbowl questions.

I've really been working on reining in my guessing. In five of my seven games I was at least tied for the most wrong answers among the three players, and in three games had as many or more than my two opponents combined. This was the first game that I felt my newfound self-control hurt more than it helped. I had a reasonably confident guess on Mughal Empire and a slightly wild guess on John Constable, but let both of them sit and thereby left $4000 on the table. Still, with all the 30000+ games I've been notching up lately, I think I'm on the right track.

Kris was the first to ring in on 34 clues in this game. Of the 92 regular-play games played by the ten biggest winners on the show not named Ken Jennings, there were just two instances of a player doing that (Roger and Joon both managed 36 in their second and seventh wins, respectively).

I always learn something new when I watch Jeopardy!

I never knew that inanimate objects could act based on political motivation.

Initial articles are not important under well-established Jeopardy! rules.

I heard it as "The Sixth Sense" underenunciated, with the "th" sound elided for coming after the S of "what is". I know I say "What izzis" instead of "What is this" sometimes.

I thought that was true only for non-specific titles.?
