 Ohhhhh my. If my great niece someday follows through and takes the Kids Week or Teen Tournament test (it is without question that she will pass), I will be sure to coach her on wagering. Thoroughly.

That was by far the most disappointing outcome of any Jeopardy! game I have ever watched, even outpacing the "Bejamin Franklin" game. Poor kids. Such a display of knowledge and mental agility among the three of them (including Tori's systematic Daily Double hunting) — and then that.
Poo-tee-weet? So it goes.

According to Alex, highest non-winner among the semi scores. Practical insta-get for me BTW.

Just watched tonight's show, I'm stunned and confused what happened. I fell for the Dublin trick as well. What happens now?

Alex said that the third finalist will be the highest scoring non-winner (so, no one from today's game will be in the finals).

All three children should have been escorted from the stage, leaving the camera to pan across the empty stage.

Also, all three children should be denied admission to any college. :o

I will spend the rest of the evening trying to think of other mean things to post.

I'm surprised Alex didn't mention what happens, but yes, there is now going to be a wildcard finalist.

Come to think of it, we were sequestered for makeup and prepping during the Final Jeopardy! of our previous game, so the players tomorrow actually might not know the outcome of this game. That is, unless Alex mentions it, which he surely will. That could be key to this whole thing.

If by some utter hilarity the same thing happens tomorrow with all three players ending at $0, then I guess they would have to go to pre-FJ! scores to break the 7-way $0 tie.

(Edit: looks like he did mention it)

Oh. My. God.

I'm sure mbclev will be weighing in on this one.

Personally, FJ was an instaget. No idea how that was a TS (Ireland is pretty much all Catholic; *Northern* Ireland is mixed (hence "the troubles")). The whole thing was just ... bizarre.

Would it have been more fair for them to do a tiebreaker clue in this case? ANyone think? And yes, three way ties on zero have happened in tourney games before. The 1989 Seniors tourney had a three way tie on zero during a QF game. The semis consisted of the winners of the other four games plus the five high scorers among non-winner. This is the first three way tie on zero at the end of FJ! since 6/12/98 I think(unless there was a celebrity game since then maybe, there was a three way tie on zero at the end of a 1996 celeb game with Jon Lovitz/Carl Lewis/Matthew Fox from Party of Five)

O! M! F! G!

I cannot believe that they all wagered so badly. I figured at least one of them would have even the slightest semblance of math and/or strategic knowledge.

Incidentally, the category was not Capital Cities of Independent Nations, or National Capitals.

And, since Ireland is made up almost entirely of Roman Catholics, Dublin was not a good guess. (But this is as clear to me as Celine Dion not being from Ontario. Your mileage may vary.)

If I had 50 cents for every math question I got right, I'd have $6.30 by now.

And, for once, he'd have a point.

It's a bit sad since I know all of these teens would whip me if we played, but that wager snafu was just horrendous. That was painful.

For FJ, Belfast was an easy get for me but that fell into my undergrad thesis wheelhouse, would have guessed Dublin in HS too.

I still enjoyed Tori's strategy of clue choices.

Tournament historians, has one player ever out scored the other eight combined in the semifinals? It could happen.

No. they only use tiebreakers to find a winner when there are two (or more) winners to choose from. Not when there are three losers. It is well spelled out that $0 is never a winning score, no matter what the others score.

And, since there are already wild-cards being fought for in the QF matches, a three-way tie at zero (in a QF match) doesn't alter much.

I don't think my heart could handle that.

I was thinking about that game as well. I think they should just have 2 finalists. I've always heard Alex say the winners of the semi finals go to the finals. No winner of the game, no finalist. 2 days of only 2 contestanst may be a bit much though.

Worst wagering ever. I mean, this would be bad enough in a regular game where the winner's score actually determines how much money they get, but in a tournament semifinal where your score doesn't even matter so long it's the highest... just, wow. :(

Well, as we saw Kelton's irrational all-in bet in the quarterfinal, I can't say I was surprised he did so again today. Both times he was in the lead as well.

Was that a delayed reaction, or do you get Jeopardy! a half-hour later than I do?
