No wheel or J! here in the DC area; looks like they MAY have found the second Boston Bombing suspect.

Tonight would have been a good night for a Shortegic wager by the leader, right?

Grr. Pre-empted for me. It may come off as callous to try to explain why I find quite useless whatever news "coverage" is happening right now, so I won't.
Edited to say that I'm very glad they got him, just that I didn't see the need for hours of footage of people standing around before it happened.

Wednesday and today were my two best games in terms of Coryat scores, but I whiffed on FJ for both. Went with Tanzania tonight, but I had it narrowed down to that, Canada, Chile or Argentina.
And all three contestants went with the United States? What?
EDIT: Never mind, I'm the idiot. I could've sworn Logan was higher than McKinley.

"Jeopardy!" again pre-empted... and don't mind a bit. Second Boston Marathon bomber captured and arrested soon after.

WNEM cut in at the start of DJ!, so thanks to bpmod. Even if he weren't there for backup, this is certainly one pre-emption that I couldn't possibly get annoyed over.
Missed only $200 in Weights and Measures. I saw no way to narrow it down between Fahrenheit and Celsius, so I stayed clam.
5/5 in Home, 0/5 in NFL. Predicted the latter.
I imagine the triple-stumper on Art for $400 was due to the contestants having the same thought process that I did:
Me: Where the hell is the Schucul River? That sounds German.
(Beep beep beep)
Alex: Philadelphia.
Me: Oh, duh, Schuylkill.
Clammed on "Philosopher's Stone" at $2,000. Totally expecting a trap clue at that value, since I thought the title switch of the first HP book was far more common knowledge. Harsh neg on that one for Phil. Niagara was also so overvalued at $2000 that I expected another trap.
Not a guess on FJ! Mount Acamamaca-what, now? Never heard of it.

Celsius is a derivation from the Latin for 100 — 0 degrees is freezing and 100 is boiling.TenPoundHammer wrote:Missed only $200 in Weights and Measures. I saw no way to narrow it down between Fahrenheit and Celsius, so I stayed clam.

(Thanks Brian, for the upload!)
I was really surprised that everyone went to the USA for this FJ. I figured that it had to be in the Andes. Unfortunately I couldn't remember which country to go with and landed in Peru. Darn you, Aconcagua.

And here I thought it was a derivation of the inventor's name, Anders Celsius. Shows what I know.falsifieddocuments wrote:Celsius is a derivation from the Latin for 100 — 0 degrees is freezing and 100 is boiling.TenPoundHammer wrote:Missed only $200 in Weights and Measures. (Centigrade on the other hand, another name for the temperature scale we use most frequently, is derived from the Latin for 100.)

Re: Friday, April 19, 2013 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
I did not have enough optimism about J! airing locally, so I took advantage of Brian's generosity to start watching at 7 the normal time. At 7:15 news coverage ended and I could not believe my eyes when not only J! came on, but also from the beginning. I cannot recall KGO ever picking the show up at fifteen past the hour with no joining in progress.
That has me wondering if it will be WoF in its entirety, local news and the new Shark Tank preempted. The new Grimm and Vegas are probably out as well. It's the WWE that will have Smackdown on each Friday without fail.
I don't see how playing on the computer can be any different, but I was 28/28 in the J! round until the Skull clue got me. I knew it was not Skull and Crossbones, but I could not figure out the correct response in time. Duh! That rattled me enough to fail to figure out Gram Parsons in time. There must have been or will be some perfectos tonight.
With Mary dominating a lot of the action, Judy did not have as much time to annoy her detractors tonight. Judy got herself in range thanks to Mary missing the History DD. She'll quake each time she runs into Mr. Penn for years to come.
Mary had rooting interest for getting the Leave it to Beaver clue, but it was up for grabs on The Neighbors stumper. Please ABC renew the show (and Suburgatory as well).
The FJ category is never what I want to see though it was already a grumbling night with the writers using both the Bears and Packers in NFL. About the only thing I did right was to know Kilimanjaro was in Tanzania and not Kenya. I figured the clue was aiming for something outside of North America. I considered Aconcagua, but I had no idea where to place its height in relation to the African one. Even if I did, I did not know its country. Guessing Chile, Peru or Argentina over a country I was sure about was a risk I passed on.
Three worldly-type FJ clues for the week was more than enough.

Me too. I was feeling very smug and then found out Aconcagua is in Argentina and NOT Chile. Blast! Turns out it's only about five miles from Chile, but a miss is as good as a mile--or so I've heard.lisa0012 wrote:(Thanks Brian, for the upload!)

It wasn't a badly played game until FJ, but WTF?? Aconagua a TS??? Perhaps I should thank Sporcle for my surety on this subject, but this was an instaget of instagets for me. Thanks so much for posting this game, Brian. I also agree that a Shoretegic wager would have paid off handsomely tonight.

Well, if you would have written "Aconagua" you'd be getting the "oh, sorry!" from Alex, too.Woof wrote:It wasn't a badly played game until FJ, but WTF?? Aconagua a TS???
Oops, I guess the clue was name the country, but anyway...
