Learning vowel dumps for competitive Scrabble made 5 letters 4 vowels simple, LOUIE was perhaps my most used. Always interesting how different mental endeavors can assist on various Jeopardy categories.

Anybody missing FJ should switch to reruns of Deal or no Deal.

Ran The Onion. Somehow precalled Michigan.

Got only the top and bottom in What's It Called.

3/5 in the abbreviations. Too late on "Ha ha, only kidding", and no clue on God Only Knows.

3/5 in Bait. Clammed on anchovy, saw no way to get cheese out of $1000.

====

Took "Chapter" too literally in 5 Letters and was wondering if there was some important book the FoE had. Audio was a stupid miss, but no hope on that aioli. Again, how do you know something like that?! It's not like it comes up that often (last hit in the archive is 2003).

What was the clue to Nobel on European Poets for $400?

Black Eyed Peas was my only get on They're No. 1. I knew The Bangles but couldn't dredge it up in time.

0/5 in Dead Sea Scrolls, although I clammed on the top two and $2000 out of uncertainty.

====

"This French engineer—" "Nope, not gonna get it… … … … … Oh wait, Eiffel!"

Not impressed with this game at all. I didn't add up all the Lach Trash, but this might have been a game winnable from the fourth podium. Some really awful guesses by the champ. "Internet library"? Yeesh. His butchering of the line from Invictus seemed like a totally wild guess. Guessing a word is doable, but a five word excerpt? If you don't know it for sure, the odds are not at all in your favor on a complete guess. Also, another game where someone guessed Hindenburg! At least it was the right answer this time :lol:

If this FJ polls less than 95%, I will be shocked.

TPH, for the Nobel question, what other major literary prize would you expect to show up in a $400 clue?

And where in the world do they find these internet abbreviations? I think they just make half of them up on the spot.

The master of my fate line has come up a couple times before, Alex likes that quote.

I tried to think of someone other than Eiffel it could be. Unless you get a brain lock, I don't see how you miss it. will be interested in what some wrong questions were.

Why did they mention London in the queue clue?

If I had 50 cents for every math question I got right, I'd have $6.30 by now.

I was actually impressed with the champion. He was fast on the buzzer and had some good gets. Bad negs will happen every now and then. I didn't much care for this board, though, so I would like to see how he would do on a good, hard one, but I think that he would handle it pretty well.

I think it's more commonly used in British English than in American.

Instaget FJ. Who else could it have been?

I ran the zombies category. :) Overall these were easy boards for me.

Yeah, we'd just call that a line rather than a queue.

Did better than I thought I would in Onion (humor will never be my strong suit, so I had to rely on association) with a 3/5. Said New York instead of Rhode Island, and I believe $800 was a clam. I did similarly to TPH in Text Me.

Got Call of Duty only from the abbreviation. I would not have been able to guess the clue without it; I don't play violent video games (and am unnerved that my sister lets her six-year-old son play them).

Didn't know Eiffel was a person, so my taking my mother's answer is what saved me here. I agree that this will probably have a high get rate, though.

Like most of you, I'm sure, I was torn between Gustav Eiffel and Albert Matieu-Favier. Luckily, a coin flip worked in my favor.

OK, I'll admit it. I was one of those rare people who missed this FJ.

I agree that it'll probably have a very high get rate in the poll. And although I couldn't come up with the correct answer during the 30 seconds, as soon as Alex started talking after the music ended, I knew exactly what the correct response was.

I feel horrible about missing this one. I partly blame the fact that I traveled a lot today, watched Friday's recorded episode before today's, and had a couple of beers while watching the two episodes.

There may be a lesson to be learned, when it comes to how I missed this one. I've made roughly the same kind of mistake on a few other FJs in the past: Sometimes I try too hard to "know" the response, as opposed to looking for an obvious little "leap" to make.

I don't know who exactly Eiffel was. And probably, many of you who came up with the correct response don't really know exactly who he was either.

Somehow, I just couldn't make the little "leap", however obvious it was in retrospect. Instead, I searched my brain for "names who I know are engineers associated with metal". The only one I could come up with was Bessemer, even though I thought there was a very good chance he was from an English-speaking country, not France.

I'm kicking myself for this one, and it kind of ruined my evening a little bit. But even the easy ones get missed sometimes.

Those were two obvious ones. But I thought George Ferris equally likely. Lacking a three-sided coin, I went with the alphabetically first choice.

I thought I was being facetious. I've never heard of M. Matieu-Favier, but he and M. Eiffel were the only returns in the archive for "French engineer". I think Ferris was an American, but I can see where the name would have popped up as a possibility. Glad he didn't pop into mine!
