My name isn't Chicagoman.
You can vote once a day, you know, giving you seven votes this week.
It's a bit late for that, but he could choose to give seven votes next week. It won't help Eugene, but it might help someone.

Strange, I was just able to cast a vote (for Eugene) this morning (in addition to the other votes I'd been casting once a day over the last week)

Yep, clock stops at 07 Oct, 6:59AM Pacific.
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

For what it's worth, I dropped by last week mostly to see what the reaction to the yearbook picture was. Then you all sucked me back in again, what with your wit and niceness and stuff.

I am happy to take to the hustings, although having my entire timeline known by a significant portion of the North American viewing audience is of course...what's that word that's worse than terrifying? It's that one.

As for my competition, what can I say. Michael Daunt is an honorable contestant. (So are they all, all honorable contestants.) It would probably be unfair of me to point out that while a vote for any of the other very excellent competitors is merely a chance to see (yet again) a fine player, a vote for me is a chance to make history and strike a blow for human rights.

So I'll, you know, refrain from doing that.

Thank you all, and I hope I merit your consideration. I promise not to go all Catherine O'Hara on you. Unless that's what you want! I'm flexible.

(In case there was any doubt, much of that post was written with my tongue so firmly in cheek that it was practically a tusk.)

One of the more unusual weeks of my life just came to a close. I’m really not comfortable pestering people (well, people whom I haven’t married nor given birth to, anyway). And I was beginning to get spammer’s block.

I’m much more comfortable thanking people. I’ve felt so touched that so many responded to my plea for voting, and sent it on and posted it – ever widening circles of favors. Some even started Twitter accounts! I hope those who did won’t abandon them entirely, only because Twitter seems to be the most effective way of getting congressional staffers to see public opinion (it tabulates by category, so the feedback is fast). Much more important than just voting in a one-week popularity contest.

So I want to be clear: I already feel very fortunate to have had so much help from so many people. I feel like William Powell opening his present in The Thin Man. Like Audrey Hepburn scooped onto the train in Love in the Afternoon. Like Henry Fonda closing the stateroom door in The Lady Eve. In a word, grateful.

And yup, alietr, we probably are screwed. We saw how well the site handled the opening of voting a week ago. I'm going to look right now and see if they have the next decade's candidates up yet. And then I'm going back to being an architect.

I am inspired by your courage.

That doesn't mean I want to you get more votes than me, however.

Goodness, I thought all these old posters were dropping by to post just because they were excited about the tournament!

We're met on the field of honor, and may the better candidate triumph.

Although it would be nice to see a ginger get ahead.

....wait, what, you thought I was talking about something else?

There must have been some kind of random factor in play for the 5th slot?

Michael Daunt
Catherine Ramen
Brian Weikle
Shane Whitlock
.
.
.
Melizza Zygmunt

I know who the 14 already in the group are voting for. Isn't there a Sesame St. song..."One of these champs is not like the others..."

None of this is truly based on in-game achievement. The producers are just picking people that they think viewers will want to watch.

J-archive batting averages for the five candidates (both Michael and Shane have games not in the archive):
Brian .469
Michael .402
Catherine .389
Shane .364
Melizza .260

To be fair, and continue the batting average analogy, I hit from the other side of the plate now.

I thought "joined the other team" was more apropos ...

Did Melizza win her fifth game or no? Her bio says "five-time undefeated champion" in two places, but j-archive disagrees.

Touche. On the other hand, I do hope to become the first contestant in history to have practical wardrobe advice for any contestant.
