Alex: This sounds like a romantic story. Heidi McEchron from Iowa City was married in a replica of...
Heidi: Of Shakespeare's Globe Theater. Yes.
Alex: Where?
Heidi: In Iowa City. It's in the park.
Alex: Okay, now, the Globe Theater was an open-air theater-in-the-round.
Heidi: That's correct.
Alex: And what happened?
Heidi: It rained the whole day. Yes. [Laughter] But I was saved because my friend made a poncho for me to go over my wedding dress. But it was clear, so you could still see my dress, and she bedazzled it, too.
Alex: Okay. Good.
Alex: Fran Altomare, from Pennsylvania originally, is a reader. How many books in your collection?
Fran: I don't have an exact count, but the next show I'll probably be appearing on is "Hoarders". So, there's quite a large number. [Chuckles]
Alex: Thousands and thousands of books.
Fran: Thousands and thousands, yes.
Alex: Now, how do you feel about the ibooks? I'm an old-fashioned guy.
Fran: So am I.
Alex: I want the books.
Fran: I need the tactile, you know I need the whole thing --
the sense, everything.
Alex: Okay. Good. You and I are on the same page on that one.
Alex: Neal Pollack is our champion. Since we're talking about books, you have written some.
Neal: I have written eight books, Alex.
Alex: About...?
Neal: Oh, I've written novels and memoirs. My most recent books
are murder mysteries about a former yoga teacher who becomes a private detective and solves yoga crimes. [Laughter]
Alex: And I should point out, for those of you who weren't with us yesterday, He is a yoga instructor. So he has a solid basis for information on that subject.

Neal Pollack has performed at a consistently high level in his first three wins. It's difficult to pinpoint any single game as his "signature win" to this point. Another win tomorrow will certainly put him in the discussion for the next Tournament of Champions. Good luck in your fourth game, Neal!

FJ was an instaget for me, mainly because I use that for my search engine. Luckily I didn't write down Foxfire, which is what I always call it.
Good FJ bets all around, though a slight overbet by Neal on the last DD. If he bets less than $600, Fran can't catch him by running the last two clues.

Thanks! I'm having fun, that's for sure.
Re: Thursday, September 26, 2013 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
Didn't know men could be named Fran, too.
Anyone catch Alex's stealth pun about Fran preferring actual books? "You and me are on the same page with that one."
====
I think this is the first time in forever that I've gotten all of the top boxes right in both rounds.
Faint heart kept me from running Heart.
Can't believe I clammed on caffeine. I consume way too much of that stuff. I think "alkaloid compound" threw me enough for "keep you awake" not to register.
Ran Foreign.
4/5 in Arkansas. I was thinking diamonds on $2000, but had nothing in my head that could possibly link diamonds to Arkansas. I still can't find much of anything linking the two.
====
Internet? Could be a total gravy clue for me, or a "what the hell is that?!" clue like Groupon last April. Fortunately, since I happen to use that browser, it was a hyper-ultra-mega-super-instaget.

I have a cousin named Fran who is a guy. São Tomé surprised me too. Seemed like a slow-witted game but it could just be me winding down after a tough day.

Re: Thursday, September 26, 2013 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
Anybody manage to get 30/30 in the J round today? I didn't (I've only done that once ever, and possibly will never do it again), but I definitely had an above average performance, with 27 right, 2 clams, and 1 neg. And if I can get close to perfect, then other people here can.
I blurted out "boxing" instead of "bowling" for the sports category at $400. I didn't know it, but boxing was the first sport starting with a B that popped into my head. I realized afterwards that whoever the biggest earning boxer is, must be somebody I've heard of, but that's not true of bowling.
I had a couple of guesses that turned out to be correct. Got "caffeine" at $400 in the rightmost column, despite not knowing it's an alkaloid. I just figured: something that keeps you awake, in a second-row clue?
I guessed "warm" at $600 (edit: in the stories category) because it just kind of "sounded right", but then I missed "cold" at $1000 even though one could say that one "sounded right" as well.
For FJ: I didn't previously know the relevant fact, but "Firefox" came to mind pretty early. I thought it had an excellent chance, being a mammal that's vaguely reddish in color. I spent the rest of the time trying to think of other software things that had mammals in their names, but couldn't think of any other obvious candidates. And I thought, since the category says "Internet", a web browser seemed more likely than other types of programs.
I blurted out "boxing" instead of "bowling" for the sports category at $400. I didn't know it, but boxing was the first sport starting with a B that popped into my head. I realized afterwards that whoever the biggest earning boxer is, must be somebody I've heard of, but that's not true of bowling.
