PHARMACEUTICAL ABBREVIATIONS

Give the English instructions that would be given if a prescription has these directions:

2: a.u. (which equals a.d. plus a.s.)

4: h.s. (on a drug like Ambien)

6: dieb. alt. (sometimes seen at Q. O. D.)

8: a.c. (typically allow an hour, so the medicine can interact with an empty stomach)

10: p.r. (or, maybe, R. O. A., on a prescription for an anticonvulsant or antiemetic)

MODERN ART

3: Andy Warhol's work “National Velvet” is a series of silkscreens of this actress on horseback.

6: One of this artist's favorite – and, in his hands, most controversial – subject was the American flag, of which he created a triple portrait in 1958.

9: One of this French artist's first “readymades” was a snow shovel he signed, calling it “Prelude to a Broken Arm.”

12: He and his wife Elaine were part of the New York School, characterized by abstract expressionism and “action painting.”

15: This Swiss-born artist who taught at the Bauhaus school created the controversial “Twittering Machine” while teaching in Dusseldorf.

What’s Montague? It is nor hand, nor foot,
Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part
Belonging to a man. O, be some other name!
What’s in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other word would smell as sweet.
