Hmmm ... there are 7 cities in the top 50, right? That was my guess for Bonus 2.

I was counting the cities in the Top 50 not counting Houston (since that would be too easy!)

Irvington is, unfortunately, nowhere near the Top 50, even though it is near the big cities of Dallas and Fort Worth.
It's also called Irving.

That's not what that question asked, though. The initial question specifically excluded Houston; the bonus did not.

Why would counting cities in the top 50 including Houston be any easier than counting cities in the top 50 not including Houston?

I agree with econ - the way the question was worded gave no indication that one was supposed to assume that the "not including Houston" proviso carried over. (And I say this as one who answered 6...)

I agree and also said six, so I should not get credit for the bonus.

I agree. I got credit for it, but it was a pure guess and I was guessing counting Houston. So my guess was technically wrong.
I think 7 should be the bonus answer.

I said 6, and I was wrong. You should at minimum accept both answers, and if you are going to take one it should be seven, because I read the question to include Houston and I got the answer wrong.

I agree with econ. I answered 7 because I didn't understand that Houston was being excluded from that number. Had I understood that, I would have most certainly answered with 6 (thank you, Sporcle!)

Add me to the list of players who answered 6 for the bonus but think the right answer should be 7. I was forgetting Arlington, not excluding Houston.

Moi aussi. According to two websites I checked, the correct answer should be 7.

I guessed 6 in thinking of 5 and figuring I was forgetting one. In my count I was including Houston. I'm not running the thing, but I would side with 7 the correct number. Taking my bonus away for 6 is fine by me.

Add me to those who thought Houston should be included. I thought it was pretty specific. How many are in the top 50? No caveats.

Now that I realize that I never put that exception into the bonus question, I will adjust any bonuses so that the correct answer is 7.

2. We now go further to the Astrodome, home of the first usage of the world-famous AstroTurf. AstroTurf, as we all know, revolutionized sports forever. Texas sports aren’t too shabby either. Name a Texas sports team that has won at least one Stanley Cup, World Series, Super Bowl, or NBA Finals while playing as a Texas team.
Bonus #1: Name how many championships that team has won ever since its induction and while that team was in Texas.

Correct:
Houston Rockets (8)
MarkBarrett (Y)
This is Kirk! (Y)
FermiParadox (Y)
tjconn728 (Y)
waterloo_guy (Y)
TomKBaltimoreBoy (Y)
Sherm (Y)
goforthetie (Y)

Dallas Stars (SHEEP) (9)
ElendilPickle (Y)
Creed Bratton (Y)
amorris525 (N)
jeffwolfe (Y)
Woof (N)
Bamaman (Y)
econgator (Y)
jkbrat (Y)
Paucle (Y)

San Antonio Spurs (6)
NYCScribbler (Y)
Leander (N)
gamawire (Y)
CoachP (N)
kettledrum (N)
Budphrey (Y)

Dallas Cowboys (3)
Vanya (Y)
Magna (N)
cheezguyty (N)

Dallas Mavericks (3)
debramc (Y)
lisa0012 (Y)
Rackme32 (Y)

Incorrect:

Houston Astros (1)
dhkendall

Sorry, but no cigar: The Houston Astros only went as far as the WOrld Series, losing to the CHicago White Sox in 2005. (Although I do hope they win some!)

Having posted a couple of doozies in my own TD's (sole Nobel science prizes, anyone?), I know what a question with a very limited pool of responses can do -- make a question a total crapshoot as to what will be a sheep, and what will not.

There was a very early TD that had "name a California team in one of the big four leagues", and "Lakers" was a singleton. But with this small a pool, even the Cowboys got you unwanted points. Just no good way to play this one -- so I'll take my seven, and just keep plugging.
Life IS pain, Princess. Anyone telling you differently is selling something.

Yeah, that's one of the things that struck me about this TD: many of the questions had quite limited pools of correct answers, at least from my perspective of striving for 10-15 correct answers on questions. It does change the strategic nature of answering, since I went in with the assumption that all of the correct answers would be chosen. It also meant that I used the DROP on the question with the smallest pool of correct responses (as I judged it).
