20th Century Literary Terms
The writer who named this U.S. movement said the term referred to supreme blessedness, not exhaustion.

Spoiler
Show
What is the beat movement? Verun said suffrage; Greg had no guess.

Greg Munda: $11,800-$11,401=$399
Jon Choi: $11,600+$300=$11,900...now a 1-day champion with $11,900
Verun Shekhar: $6,700-$0=$6,700

What was the hint for Providence on Highways for $200? $600 was my only get there.

0/5 in Literature. I knew Chatterley and Burrough, but could spit out neither.

Oddly, I got only the bottom two in Blanking the Blank. Clammed on $200 and $600 since I wasn't sure, and outright had no idea on "playing the field".

Got only $200 in Encyclopedia Says So. Dunno if I've heard of Jennifer Lawrence, but the name rings no bells at first glance.

Happily ran 2013 Albums. The two country clues helped.

====

Christmas for $400 was tough IMO. Everything else rang a bell, but I got only $800.

I thought Pre-Fame Celebs for $400 was way, way, way too obscure a TOM for Diet Coke, using a slogan that's only been used very sporadically in the past 25 years.

However, I easily got the other 4 in Celebs.

Also went 4/5 in Snow. I learned "snowplowing" from a late 90s Mac skiing game called MacSki. For some reason, Norgay is the only funny name that refuses to stick in my head. I panicked and blurted out "Sherpa".

Third 4/5 in DJ! with Merry Monarch keeping me from the run in Merry.

====

No guess on FJ! Exhaustion = beat just wasn't connecting. I'm tired all the time, and I can think of 400,000 other synonyms for "tired" that I would use before "beat".

Picked up Lach trash on "cloves" and "Jimi Hendrix"

I got "text message," but only after "email" was ruled incorrect.

FJ was an instaget, even before I had read/heard the entire clue.

I liked the J round, but there were some not so great clues in DJ. I got a kick out of the "just for the taste of it" jingle for Diet Coke being used. I wouldn't have guessed that that many people would remember that one.

I got FJ in about 3 seconds, mainly from the "U.S. Literary Movement" part. My first thought was the Harlem Renaissance, but that didn't fit. My second thought did fit.

I had an unusually high amount of Lach Trash, myself: cloves, Hendrix, Bruno Mars, snowplow, and jumping the broom. Cloves I learned from a chatty guy I met in the spices aisle of a supermarket recently.

Precalled the reversal on "pizza" - I've heard that term used, as well.

I got FJ about 5 seconds too late. :(

I had heard "pizza" and "french fries" used as skiing terms in an episode of South Park. I had no idea if they were real skiing terms or not.

Oh, that's easy! First, find someone who embedded a video. Then click "quote." Then from the quote, cut out the line where they embedded their video. Paste that line into your post. Now copy the url for your video, and replace their url with yours, ensuring you keep the text on either side. Make sure you have no extra spaces.
Now click Preview to see if it worked! :)

(I'm not kidding- I never remember how to do it, so this is what I do every time.)

No way was I coming up with FJ tonight. Otherwise, it was a decent game; I picked up a lot of Lach Trash.

Ditto on all counts. If it was multiple choice, I likely would have picked something other than Beat.

I wonder if Alex hadn't asked him what he meant by "pizza" if they would have reversed it.

If you are a male between the ages of 13 and 30, this is surprising to me.

Unless it's YouTube and then you cut & paste the address and just put "" around it.

Oh, she played Katniss Everdeen in that film franchise I wouldn't watch if you went Clockwork Orange on me. And she looks exactly like every other actress in the past 15 years.

I hopscotched the 2013 CDs with Bieber, (Shelton), Hendrix, (could not pull Rucker in time), Mars (only because of the TOM). That's how the night went with 28/56

On the cloves I guessed nutmeg thinking the nail part was pointing that way and then did not recognize that nutmeg would fit the $1000 clue. Like I said. That's how the night went.

The FJ! clue had me play the exhausted brainstorm and I had tired, fatigued and worn out. No literary movement there. I tried thinking of movements and like Steven had Harlem Renaissance pop in my head. To have a guess I scribbled dystopian as time ran out.

When Jon's response was shown I was instantly sure that was it. I wish I had thought of the 9/14/06 FJ! which was an easy precall off the category of: A 1950s Poem

If I had stuck with the exhausted thesaurus game I probably could have got it in time since it's short to write. I needed to picture scenarios about being exhausted. Come home after a long day? I'm... Get home late? I'm... Play video games past midnight? I'm...

Nice sole solve by Jon and a point for the bowtie.

I'd extend it well above 30.

I had no clue on FJ, and with time running out, I said, "Beat Generation" just to have something to say.
