I'm out of town, may not see this game until later in the week, so if Bamaman or anyone else could post the FJ clue and scores, I'd appreciate it. Likewise for Tuesday and Wednesday's games, as I may not see any of them until quite a bit later.

I also fell into the reader/speaker trap to keep me from running Latin.

Rock was both my precall and my only get in Chris.

I don't think I've seen a container of Tang in over 15 years, so that TOM on Chinese for $200 went right over my head.

Ran Street Smarts.

Should I know that Kuda Bux guy at $400 in Magic? He seems very obscure. At least I've heard of David Blaine and Criss Angel, but not the guy at $1000. (I saw a watermelon and almost blurted out "Gallagher".)

Suggestions for keeping equinox/solstice straight?

Greenland was mega overvalued at $1000.

====

Diesel doesn't have spark plugs? News to me. 0/5 in Radio Astronomy.

Scofflaw (NHOI) was my only miss in Double F.

Also NHO a Cyrus in the Bible.

0/5 in Mystery Titles. Clammed on the first two.

Blanked on the first three in Sax.

====

All the President's Men was my first guess, but it didn't feel right. And why guess because I'm never gonna get a guess right blah blah blah.

Picked up Lach trash on "Take 5"

I got FJ after thinking about it for a few seconds.

Equinox means "equal night". Day and night are equal at the beginning of spring and fall.

Solstice means "sun stands still". The smallest changes in what the sun is doing are when the day is longest and shortest, at the beginning of summer and winter.

I think I went 3/5 on Mystery Titles. I got the Kathy Reichs clue based on the TV show connection (even though I only watch it rarely).

The stand-and-stare on the Taxi clue made me sad. FJ was an instaget for me (as I say to the Quiz Bowl kids, Watergate is history to them, current events for me).

Impressive showing by Larry.

His first name was Mi-Lee, but was also known as Hammurabi Montana. He probably wasn't well known because all the ancient carvings he was in depict him bending over, pressing against people and sticking his tongue out, and they want to keep things like that away from people like teenagers.

I know Chritsopher Lloyd for two things: 1.) Judge Doom, and 2.) "I WAS FROZEN TODAY!"

*Not* Back to the Future? I would forgive not knowing him in anything else, including Taxi, but leaving out BTTF, unquestionably the greatest film of the 1980s (well, that and The Princess Bride), is unforgivable.

I was going to say "more sad" but this works too.

This was a pretty good board, but I did not do too well on it. I did pick up the Lach trash on Christopher Lloyd, Faulkner, Take 5, and Denmark. Havarti is probably my favorite type of cheese, so I wasn't going to miss that one. I was also shocked that "Take 5" was a triple stumper.

I thought that the "pulsar" DD that was valued at $2000 was easier than the 3 clues that were above it.

I had not even a guess on FJ. My lack of film knowledge hurt me once again.

I forgot he was in BTTF. Then again, I only saw it once, on TV about 20 years ago. This is not a moviegoing household, as I've made perfectly clear, and I'm often too lazy to look them up.

(But given the high payoff I got from the last two films that a friend pestered me to watch and wouldn't shut up until I did…)

My boyfriend and I have an ongoing conversation about making good guesses on DD and FJ. For instance, months ago there was a question about a Massachusetts college named for a Supreme Court justice. I would have guessed a random justice rather than a random college.

Today, I would have opted for a movie that definitely came out before Jimmy Carter took office (even though I don't know when it's set) over a movie that was definitely set in the 1970s but may have come out after Carter took office.

So, "Dr. Strangelove" and even "The Exorcist" aren't terrible guesses if you're drawing a blank. And at least they'll make people laugh.

It was tricky, because the list of films set in 1970s Washington DC that were also filmed during the 70s is so long... but I finally pieced together what the answer was.

Pretty much knew we'd have a new champ after the timid bet on the DD while far behind.

Instaget FJ for me. My only hesitation was thinking the movie had come out earlier. (It was released in April 1976). But I couldn't come up with anything else and a political film (especially one that led to his election) seemed logical for a DC based film.

After the messy match on Friday, it was nice to see one player doing well. I found both boards easy except for astronomy which is a weak spot for me. FJ was easy but I could see the younger players missing it. I like the new champ!

So, you're working to beat a record for a year, and you're not exactly sure what the record is?

What exactly does it mean when a president "holds a screening"? I assume it is more than just watching a movie. Do stars or others associated with the movie (such as directors or producers) show up and have a big photo op?
