"10 Letters" ate my lunch. I glossed over the dates on $200 (I was thinking the word would be state-related somehow, like "territorial" or "commonwealth"); NHO fratricide, splashdown, or hinterland; and woodcarver was a headslap on reveal. (I almost negged with puppeteer too.) I think this is the first time outside a TOC that I've ever skunked a word category.

The board just wasn't cooperating with me otherwise. Safety went entirely over my head, as did everything below $200 in Tax. ("Value added tax"? Really? Who knows that?)

Ian Fleming is one of those other names that stubbornly refuses to stay in my head no matter how many times I see it.

====

Before & After was upside down to me. I know nothing about Sally Field (NHO "Norma Rae"), and NHO Ryan O'Neal either. I got the Grease song one, said "Rang Tang" instead of "Rama Lama" at $1600, and clammed on Blind Side Effect out of fear that I would screw it up too.

Jekyll Island was a stupid miss for me. I got hung up on Doctor Livingston, I Presume™.

0/5 in Ancient Rome. I somehow knew Hadrian's Wall, but clammed because I was unsure.

Soap seemed easy at first, but I've NHO Caress soap, and "Dentin" had me stuck on toothy words, never getting anywhere near Ivory.

====

No guess on FJ! The title and author rang absolutely no bells.

Absolutely adored the FJ! for tonight. Silent Spring immediately came into my head when I saw "Green Mantle" as part of the clue. Aside from the fact that I remembered the book was published in 1962. If only nonfiction appeared more often as an FJ! category.

Got Lach trash on hinterland. Felt good about that.

Aside from that, it was an okay game, got some ridiculous misses (I missed on the Before & After categories because I would be in situations like 'Saving Private Ryan...uhhh...darn it!' then realize the other half way too late). I also swept the anatomy and 4/5'd the soap category. Unfortunately missed the orange one. Still, wouldn't mind a "Rind Soap" in the near future either.

I guess the FJ! was the game's way of saying "Today isn't your day, so here's an easy FJ! for ya. Enjoy."

P.S. "50 Shades"?! Truly a cornerstone in nonfiction...ugh...
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Picked up Lach trash: "centennial", "hair follicle", "Hadrian's Wall", "Rama Lama Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead"

Alex put "Wicked" into the title of the witch song, but it isn't in the title.

Instaget FJ. Silent Spring is one of my favorite nonfiction books.

Pretty sure 50 Shades was an attempt at humor.

I thought they were pretty liberal in allowing Chip to work his way to the Narragansett answer.

This was another board that was very well written but attacked my weaknesses. I did do better in the DJ round than in the J! round, though.

I blanked on the "Lake Placid" DD. I would have never thought of it without a TOM about the Olympics. And "Hadrian's Wall" was way overvalued at $2000.

I got FJ off the category. I am glad that I got the last two FJs of the week--they were easy, but anything beats 0/5!

I got FJ instantly. Rachel Carson and spring are related in several ways:
1. She was born in the spring of 1907 in Springdale, Pennsylvania.
2. She died in the spring of 1964 in Silver Spring, Maryland.
3. And of course, she wrote Silent Spring.

Yeah, there doesn't seem to be a consistent rule in regards to letting contestants correct themselves one time, but Chip definitely should have been negged with 3 guesses!

Did you also learn this after Rachel Carson came up on the Jeopardy! daily calendar recently? That's when I investigated her background for the first time!

Nitpick of the day: (US) Courts do not have jurisdiction to grant anyone immunity from prosecution. That'd be a pretty big breach of separation of powers.

Query: I've frequently heard of them as "vice taxes," but not "sin taxes." Is that a regional thing?

Well, do I feel deflated. I jumped straight to In Cold Blood and never looked back.

The VAT is embedded in my mind since the Dear Wife and I took a trip that included several days in London. I got reminded on the morning of our departure that we could get the VAT on our purchases refunded if we had collected our receipts. If.
Poo-tee-weet? So it goes.

What did they introduce Dana as? I heard, "A Fallen Service Officer." If that's what she was, it was a very impressive performance.

A fun game for me, although I always answer slow on the "Before and After" category.

This must be Writers I Know Week at "Jeopardy!" when Dennis Lehane came up as a clue!

FJ was an Instaget, no hesitation on this end.

I've known these facts about Rachel Carson for about a decade now. A friend told me, and I wrote them down because I thought they were so cool.

Um, *Foreign* Service Officer. Kind of a prestigious job here in DC (though they are often stationed elsewhere in the world).
