It's my best romanization of the Korean word for "song".

No. His last name is the same as the first name of a famous reindeer, not a famous first-mate. And he's not John's brother either.Paucle wrote:Is his last name "Denver"?bpmod wrote:That's Bob the bass player's face blocked out by the head of my guitar.

Re: Your Screenname: What inspired it?
I was WhoisMark on the old Sony board. After the board went through a change I was not able to get it to work again, so I went with my real name, only squished together. I kept MarkBarrett here as I had become used to being one of the oddballs to use my own name.
I have declined giving myself a line such as "Jeopardy champ" or other clever options that others use below their names. "Watches Jeopardy! Way Too Much" works for me and I like it although I think it would be a nice surprise if there were changes for sticking with the system and reaching 5,000 or 10,000 posts.
My avatar has the Golden Gate Bridge as the recognizable landmark from San Francisco where I live and I like foggy days. If I need to quickly find one of my posts skimming through a thread I find that it stands out enough so it's not hard to spot.

Re: Your Screenname: What inspired it?
Goatman means one who owns goats; Men Who Stare At Goats; or aficionado of the Pontiac Motor Division GTO; Gran Turismo Omologato. I am the latter.
My first Pontiac GTO was a broken down '69 ragtop with a crushed trunk and bad chirp in the gearbox (from speedshifting) but it had four on the floor and a Rochester (sorry, no relation to Jane Eyre char) four-barrel carb on a 400 CID V-8 and when I put the hammer down it wound up like nobody's business. Never went anywhere less than a hundred- my God I'm so lucky to be here I should have died a dozen times....I tore out the rear diff doing 140 the speedo needle was wrapped around it tops at 120.... PMD called it The 'Great One' (Sorry Wayne); ad slogan: "There's a Tiger on your Tail" and dealers used to keep foam tails to hang on the trunklid lol. The Goat won Motor Trend 1968 Car of the Year (stick that in your bonnet = OED for trunk, becuz J! loves MT
Ahhh, Pontiac's GTO, we call them 'Goats' because they are ornery and kind of ugly but good golly miss Molly they go like headless bats escaping an Ozzy concert! Over the years I had over a dozen. My last collection I rented an airplane hangar and kept six goats in it, one from every model year 1965-1970 (yes that is six). I sold them all at Barrett-Jackson and the scars on my knuckles have mostly faded but I still have lumbago from years of working on them. I rebuilt the motors and trannies, dropped them in and out solo with a winch and lotta elbow grease. So much fun I sometimes miss my goat stable! Read the wiki for the odd chance of getting one question in 10000 right, lol. Alex likes MT but doesn't seem to care about hot rodding... WTB moar muscle!

My screen name was originally inspired by the film "Rain Man" -- I first used it on the back of a club shirt in high school.

OK. I see what you're getting at now. The white is the furry part of his Santa hat; the red pointy part must be hidden behind his head. When that pic was taken, I hadn't yet donned my Santa hat. I don't wear it through the whole show 'cause it gets way too hot.Paucle wrote:With the red shirt and white hat he looks kinda gilliganny.
Edit: Maybe you can see the Santa hat thing better now.

Mine is essentially my name. I was given the nickname Wallzy in elementary football, and the name had stuck throughout high school. In college, it has finally managed to elude me. However, it is a double entendre of sorts. Wallzy(my given last name with s replaced with zy) actually sounds like Walls, E(My first initial). If anyone has seen me on FB, I go by E. Frank Walz(a lesser known pseudonym of mine) for my middle name and Wes Walz(a former hockey player for the Minnesota Wild and the only reason my pronunciation of my last name has made a video game)

I think you've described how about half the players in the NHL get their nicknames (the other half add an "-er" on the end instead of the -y or -ie). Fitting for someone running a highly-anticipated (by me, anyways!) hockey TD.wallzy41 wrote:Mine is essentially my name. I just hope I can live up to the expectations set forward by the hosts before me. This is my first one and I'm equal parts nervous and excited to host!Turd Ferguson wrote:

Re: Your Screenname: What inspired it?
I wanted a pseudonym when I joined because I was in the contestant pool and didn't know if TPTB would approve, and I wanted to base it on "Rex" because that was one of the versions of my nom in the National Puzzlers League. Once I remembered the character from one of my all-time favorite movies, it was the obvious choice.
Although there might have been some precognitive influence -- when I did get on the show later that year, and in my first game returning champion Michael Cramer ended up in the red going into FJ, some clever person on the Boards asked if I hadn't chosen my screen name because in my debut "Bill wrecks Cramer".

Re: Your Screenname: What inspired it?
I should have changed mine because I inadvertently encroached on a mostly similar one in TomKBaltimoreBoy when I first registered. I knew something was up after my first post when lots of boardies started welcoming me back after a long absence! But the reason I kept it (as I might have stated before) was its connection to my appearance. On the "howdy" taping, I kept saying on the short one that I was from Baltimore, MD -- when I wasn't supposed to be saying it. Every time I said it, I would hear about three disembodied voices yelling at me from all directions not to say "Baltimore." It was such a bizarre occurrence -- and they quickly went on to start taping again each time -- that it didn't register what I was doing wrong until after the third time! Got it right on the 4th take. Then, when I came up for my first round of practice, Glenn said, "Why don't you get us started, Baltimore Boy!" And he did that for each practice session. Since I didn't get taped until the first game of the next day, I got "Baltimore Boy"-ed quite a few times. I think even in the Green Room. Ah, that Glenn is such a needler...
(It's also interesting -- to me, at least -- that TomKBaltimoreBoy shares my first name, and my middle initial is "K." From some of his comments, I also get the sense that he has lived very close to where I live in Charm City. Go, O's!)

At my ToC taping, when we taped our pre-tourney interviews, we also taped the quick spots where we said our names and cities, so they could use clips of us to announce ourselves as semi-finalists or finalists ("Stefan Goodreau, Los Angeles, California," for example). I bring this up to say that while I waited my turn, I witnessed Vijay having trouble with his because he kept saying "from" before "Chatham, New Jersey." So you're in decent company there, BaltimoreBoy!

Re: Your Screenname: What inspired it?
Mine's from dialogue in the 1947 movie "The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer" starring Cary Grant, Myrna Loy, and the just-passed Shirley Temple.
Cary greets more than one person by starting a repeating loop of dialogue.
Cary: You remind me of a man.
Puzzled straight man: What man?
C: The man with the power.
PSM: What power?
C: The power of hoodoo.
PSM: Who-do?"
C: You do.
PSM: Do what?
C: Remind me of a man.
PSM: What man?
Rinse and repeat, ad infinitum.

Silver Screen Test is the name of my movie trivia game show. I'm re-linking back to a thread about the episode where alietr was as a contestant. Somehow the thread never got any traction so let me try again: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1698&p=92280
My avatar is the set of my show with three fictional characters inserted:
Robert Pattison as Edward Cullen from the Twilight movies.
Pinkie Pie from My Little Pony Friendship is Magic.
Gakuto Sasajima, a character from a Japanese comic called Nana Maru San Bantsu about high school quizbowl.

Mine is my universal online moniker, which is a phonetic version of the first college email address I ever had. J and J are my first and middle initials and "waymee" is what my last name would sound like with the final four letters truncated just like they used to do with 8-character email addresses.

I'm old enough to remember the original artist. My screen name can be traced to a long-ago day at the local country club. I was on the first tee, in mid-waggle, when my dentist (think Little Shop of Horrors), who was in the group behind us, yelled, "Hey, Fleenor boy!" Annoyed and focused, I hit a screamer about 250 yards down the middle.

Didn't Compuserve use numbers only for user ids?Spaceman Spiff wrote:Mine is rather straightforward, but not the obvious one.
I've always been a fan of all things related to space and spaceflight -- I guess growing up in North Alabama during the 60s will do that. (In fact, I recognized Robert Goddard from the close-up shot on the clue the other night before they pulled back to show the rocket in Aunt Effie's cabbage patch.) For a time many years ago, I was very active in flying model rockets. So, when I got into online computer (CompuServe -- that's dating me there!) I adopted the Spaceman Spiff moniker, because it fit, and I always enjoyed the Calvin and Hobbes strip.
Yes, I am a rocket scientist (amateur grade).
