I wanted to give Alex back his mustache, but I couldn't find one that looked like his in my photo editing software, so we look more like banditos.

Greetings, I'm Megan. I was on the show in March and by my clever strategy of always being in first by a handful of dollars made over 100k in three games. All of which has now been sunk into our new house.

My grandparents were on a game show in the 50's called Do You Trust Your Wife?, hosted by Johnny Carson. I think they won something like $50, but on the show they said they wanted to have a large family, and a man in Long Island was so touched by their goal that he sent them a check for $500. They went on to have eight children. I am one of six, so logically I should have four.

I spent two years after college in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, the first year working in Baltimore with AIDS patients, and the second year on a reservation in Montana working as a reading teacher in an elementary school. I've also been a security guard, a janitor at a casino, an after-school program coordinator, and a residential aide for severely mentally disabled adults. Right now I'm a stay-at-home-mother, but someday I'll be working for pay again and I still have no idea what I want to do with my life.

While I have been interested in politics since I was in my mid teens, I never thought I could run for politics, as I wasn't a member of any party and (as you can guess) independents don't fare well on the ballot. (I did initially run for school trustee because those, city councillors, and mayors are the only (technically, anyways) non-partisan positions in these here parts (although everyone knows either what party candidates belong to or what party is backing them). It wasn't until after the school trustee elections that the Liberals noticed me, asked me to run, and after examining their positions and finding them a very good match with my beliefs, I became a member of a party, which I think will help my future chances. All this, however, came when I was almost 40 (the candidate nomination meeting came the week of my 39th birthday). I'm glad to see that you are getting involved at a much earlier age, I think you stand a much better shot than I do at actually getting elected sometime in that regard. (I assume you are a member of a party, at least in the youth wing?)
Of course running in Canada vs. the US has some choices. My borough is loaded with Democratic stronghold, and well I do caucus Republican, be-it I will vote for Democrats when I feel there is a smart one running. Running as a Republican in Highland Park is a death wish considering we're outvoted badly. And the independent who ran for mayor last year lost.
I have two links for you:

Historical elections in Manitoba

(Not a good time to be a Liberal in Manitoba, either. Much like a Republican in Highland Park. This is made worse if you drill down because Liberals don't stand much of a chance in my particular riding either provincially or federally. I feel your pain. :) )

I'm Stefan.
Facts about me relating to Jeopardy appearances:
- I am one of as few as two people to lose over $20,000 on Final Jeopardy and still win.
- On two occasions a game's outcome was notably affected by my being beaten to the buzzer on the last clue of Double Jeopardy. The first time I won the game anyway, but with $15,601 less than if I had won the last buzzer battle and thereby kept the lead; the second down-to-the-wire buzzer battle loss cost me a lock tournament and (since I got FJ wrong and finished in third) $200,000!
- Going off that, I also consider myself the only player to miss out on 200 grand directly by getting an FJ wrong. But I allow that a case could be made for Pam Mueller and Frank Spangenberg in the UToC semifinals.

Other facts about me:
- I make music. Most of my output has been covers of video game songs, done with only my voice/mouth. Other music I make has been original, genuine 8-bit Game Boy music.
- I make noise. I'm a maniac of sound in general, and I've got many a stupid human trick in my repertoire.
- For years now, I've been working with kids during the summer. My noises are a hit, and this summer I've been teaching them how to say their own names backwards. Then I record them and reverse them, so their backwards selves are heard saying their forwards names!

My name is Nicky, and I've been watching the show and Wheel of Fortune 18 years (my first episode of them both was 8/30/93, just one week before the start of Season 10). I was very active on the old board, as well as the old Wheel of Fortune board. I just turned 33 years old. I attended the taping of the 4000th episode at Radio City Music Hall. Late last season, I started to my own scoresheets, which I showed to cheezguyty and he helped me figure out the best way to do them. I've been doing them all this season and would love to show them to you (they've gone through changes over the course of the season), and I'd love to post them when they air all throughout Season 28 and beyond and would love your input on what you think of each of my answers. Let me know if you're interested, and I'll show them to you!

I'm Jordan... and I've been posting here (well, not really here... but you know what I mean) for ages, it seems. I joined this fine community in November 2004 after getting swept up in the excitement caused by that former software engineer from Utah who won a few games. Before his run, I not only wasn't a Jeopardy watcher, but I hated the show! Blame it on being young and not knowing any better, I guess. Since then, I've been a faithful Jeopardy fan and watch (and play along with) every single show. I was very kindly rewarded for my "fanhood" during the 2005 College Championship, which was taped right here in Raleigh (although I was living an hour away in Fayetteville at the time). Sarah made sure that I had excellent seats to watch the semifinals and finals, and even had a Jeopardy photographer take a picture of me behind the lecterns! I had posted a more detailed story of this on the old boards... I hope the board is just "down" and that all of the posts aren't gone forever, because I'd love to save that story. As far as me being on the show, that will pretty much happen. I'd like to think I'm pretty smart, mainly because I just pay attention and remember lots of things. However, if you start throwing the typical Jeopardy subjects at me (Shakespeare, art, literature, mythology, etc.)... I'm toast. So while I could potentially hold my own if I were given the chance to play (and a couple of good categories), you won't be seeing me under the lights on national television. I'd love to play, but I'm quite simply not good enough. But I'm okay with that... I am content with being a diehard Jeopardy fan and talking about the show with people who love America's best quiz show just as much as I do. :)

As for some random personal facts about me... I'm 23, I'm a huge sports nut (Tar Heels-Panthers-Hurricanes-Maria Sharapova), and I've been with my first (and only) girlfriend for almost six years (remove "almost" on September 8)). Not much else I can think of to say... I'm not exactly one to spill everything about myself. :P

Did you think this was indicative of anything, or do you think your selection for the first group was actually totally random? This may or may not have happened to me...and it may or may not have been after I was the first person called on in the big mock game where everyone raises their hand... 8-)

BTW, to stick with the topic of the thread, I currently work at a major D1 university (not the one in my username), although I did graduate from Oklahoma State. I've been a Jeopardy! fan for a very long time. My mom had me watch Jeopardy! with her from a very young age. My first memories of Jeopardy! were around the time of Jerome Vered's ToC. I'm getting better at rocking the academic categories. However, if there was a Pop Culture Jeopardy!, I would rock the casbah. Otherwise, I love films, tennis, playing bar/pub trivia, and working out.

heelsrule1988 wrote:Gosh, where do I start? This weekend was totally awesome, to say the least. Well, first off, like I said before, you won't be getting any spoilers out of me. But first, I'll say a few things about the tournament itself that won't spoil anything.

There were certainly some exciting games. In my opinion, the clues were harder than last year's College Championship, though. I managed to run a few categories about sports (go figure) but other than that, I didn't have much success. Speaking of which, obviously, I won't be keeping Coryats on my score sheet for the College Championship when it airs in November. But considering how hard the clues were for me, that might be a good thing, haha. Now, about Peter (the contestant from N.C. State). Boy, did he get a lot of support. Of course, you all know I'm a UNC fan, so it might surprise you to hear this. Even though we are fierce rivals with State, I've just never really hated them. You'd think I would, but I've always kind of liked them, believe it or not. It's Duke that I hate. So I definitely rooted for him, too, and not just Christopher, my man from UNC. The crowd was going nuts for Peter the whole time. He had such great support. So, how did he do? I'll tell you... in a month and a half. Bwahahaha. ;)

And now, about my experience. Wow. It was completely awesome to watch Jeopardy in person. When the music started playing and Johnny did his thing in the first taping I went to, it was just like, wow, I'm watching Jeopardy live, right in front of me! It was really interesting to see how things worked behind the scenes. There were a couple of things that will get edited out, and I'll talk about those when they air. But it was really neat to see how things really work. From now on when I watch Jeopardy, I'll have a better understanding of everything that goes on. For the most part, though, it's pretty much like watching it on TV, as far as the speed of the game. It's pretty much real time, with the exception of longer breaks, of course. Boy, were the breaks fun, though. Alex is just hilarious. You think he's such a serious person by looking at him on TV, but oh man, he is so funny off camera. He said countless things that had me rolling. It was great to see a different side of Alex that you don't really see on TV.

Now, I know what you all are wondering. "Did you get on camera?!?!" Luckily, I did, and at one point, the camera was practically right beside me. If I remember correctly, the show that that happened on airs November 15, but I'm not 100% sure about that. I know it was one of the semifinal games, though. For the first round games, I was wearing a Carolina blue shirt (good luck trying to find me, considering I certainly wasn't the only UNC fan in the arena, haha). For the semifinals and finals, though, I was wearing a dark blue Red Sox shirt. I think you'll be able to spot me a bit better in those games.

Before I end this gigantic post, I have to give HUGE thanks to Sarah and the rest of the Clue Crew for treating me so well there. Gosh, you guys totally rock, to say the least. It's really nice to know that me being a huge Jeopardy fan is greatly appreciated. Thanks for everything. :)

So there you have it. There's more I'd like to tell you, of course, but that will have wait until November. I'm so glad Jeopardy decided to come down here, and I really do hope they come back real soon. It was a blast. :D

It's indicative of nothing. Twice (at least) I've been in the first group to play the mock game.

I happen to be a game show host as well--I host USC's game show, Mind Games. Though the show appears to be in limbo right now for reasons unknown to me...

Hey there everyone! My name is Don. I'm 30 and live in PA. I'm the senior sys admin for a company called Nxtbook Media in Lancaster. It's kind of funny that I sometimes pass Amish folks while I'm driving in to my high tech job. Two totally different worlds in such close proximity to each other.

I joined the original Jeopardy! boards in 2004 around the time of Ken Jennings reign. I chose the username "HerbStemple" (which I later learned I spelled incorrectly) because of the quiz show cheat from the 1950s. I was very sad when the original J! boards disappeared. I thought about starting them up again myself, but never got around to it. Glad I didn't once I found this replacement board.

My J! connection is that I once worked at a summer camp where the son of a Clue Crew member attended. I remember seeing his mom's occupation listed on his camp application and was like woahhhhhh!! He was a cool kid and it was fun to get to know him.

Not much else to say I guess. I don't post that much, but do lurk a lot. I hosted a Think Different once and that was fun.

I'm Steve. Have lived in South Carolina for 17 years but grew up in eastern North Carolina. I've loved trivia
contests and stuff about interesting facts as long as I can remember. It is still a dream to appear on
"Jeopardy" at some point and now that the tests are taken online, I plan to try for the fist time
the next time the window opens.

The small town I lived in had an AM radio station that had a Friday Night trivia show. The question I
answered that I am most proud of was one that was on the verge of being retired because noone had
answered it correctly after three weeks but I did answer it with about 5 minutes to go before
the answer would have been revealed: "What was Little Red Riding Hood's first name?" This
question was so intriguing that my Mom even got into it and drove us up to the state library in
Raleigh in search of the answer. But I did find it while doing a last flip through of one of my
great trivia resources, the second entry of Page 80 of Fred L. Worth's Super Trivia Encycolopedia,
Volume 2. My reward for answering that correctly was to serve as a call screener on the following
Friday night's show. That was pretty heady stuff for a 13-year old.

I attended North Carolina State University, earning a B.S. in Meteorology, then served as a
meteorologist with the National Weather Service for 16 years. I resigned in 2007 and started a
second career in education and currently teach math and tutor at a local college.

I tend to do well on science, english, grammar, math, entertainment, sports and classic literature
questions and do poorly on art and opera categories.

I also agree that being in the first group to play/interview was random, although I wasn't happy about it at the time. Obviously it worked out OK.

I forgot to mention the other fun fact about my audition: during the written test, I ended up sitting next to Brad Rutter's brother. We did the customary "What did you put for the one about ____?" "Oh man, I thought it was ____!" conversation after they had taken the tests away for grading. I don't think he's made it on the show yet, but he was a nice guy.

Hi, everyone.

I'm John, an old-timer in more ways than one: a J! fan going back to the original version in the 60's and a veteran of the original board going back about ten years. I knew from the first time I watched the show that it was THE show for me. Yeah, I've always been something of a nerd in general and a trivia nerd specifically.

Going back to the pre-online-quiz days, if you count all the times I tried to get into J! auditions and couldn't even get in, I may hold the all-time record for the most total times anyone has tried to become a contestant. I've actually gotten into more auditions and passed the quiz more times than I care to mention, but so far I've failed to knock anybody's socks off at an audition, so my passion to become a contestant is thus far unfulfilled. I continue to try, having passed the online quiz last February and not getting an invite to the audition.

My close-but-no-cigar moment came when I took the J! audition in the studio in Culver City in 2000. The guy I sat next to as we filled out paper work turned out to be from the same small town where I was an undergraduate, so we learned over lunch that we had a lot of mutual friends. I didn't get on the show, but he won several games and ended up in the ToC.

In real life I'm a psychologist and mediator in private practice, having graduated from the same program as Dr. Phil (he got the television program; I own a television....)

I was on the old board on a daily basis and mourned its passing (and hope to see it return one of these days). Meantime I repeat here my deep gratitude to the boardie(s) who built this board. There's a special place for you in heaven.

I'm delighted we have this forum and look forward to 1) getting to know a lot of you better and 2) continuing to discuss our favorite subject.

My handle is me although I use WhoisMark in some other places. On the J! test I was 4/4 and for "The Call" I was 1/4 with 2005 getting me to Culver City after the disappointments in 1995, '97, and '99. I've been around back to the earliest days on the Sony board and alt.tv.game-shows.

I'm a native San Franciscan, I teach at a pre-school and I enjoy putting games into the J-Archive in my spare time.

On Facebook I've recently started playing Qrank and it's a fun daily trivia exercise. I enjoy sports, TV and video (Wii/PS3/Xbox) games.

My love of trivia goes back to catching Joker's Wild on the early '70s version with Jack Barry when I was home from school. In 1983 Sale of the Century was a show I tried to never miss and a VCR was running each day while I was in college. A year later I added Jeopardy! to the habit when Trebek started hosting. I would estimate I've seen 95%+ of all Trebek episodes.

Over the years I've been fortunate enough to meet four of the UTOC Elite 18 in person as well as Ken Jennings, David Madden and other TOCers including reigning champ Vijay. Being able to be a contestant on J! was a thrill and I'm always thinking good thoughts for the so many I've met online to get the call after all their audition tries, so that they can also have the great experience.

I'm Rob from Kingston, Ontario. I teach physics and engineering at Queen's University (except if we go on strike/get locked out next week!), and work on teeny tiny motors at ultra low temperatures in my lab. I'm a long time trivia fan, and my parents have my lone episode of CBC's "Reach for the Top" on a Betamax tape somewhere in their house... I became a fan of Jeopardy in university, where we would play drinking games - forcing people to drink if they didn't get a question (my mind is fuzzy on the actual rules). The fact that the show was on at both 5:30 and 7:30 didn't seem to faze us, and we did just as well/poorly on the second episode of the day. I guess that means the drinking game worked.

I did my PhD at Penn State in the late 90's and played college quizbowl there. I met my wife playing on that quizbowl team, so we are a trivia-nerd family. I've auditioned for J! twice (1998 or 1999 in DC, 2008 in Toronto) and my wife just had her 3rd audition in DC this year. We have a 4 year old daughter who is definitely not a trivia fan... sigh.

Greetings:

My name is Nick Condon, I am "orginally from Lakewood, CO" and currently live in the DC area. (The "NJ" in my username are simply my first two initials, and do not denote any association with New Jersey.) I have a PhD in analytical chemistry, and I masquerade as an optical physicist or materials scientist at work. I have one son, who was born in April 2010 and consumes a great deal of my free time. In what's left, I'm an avid amateur photographer, specializing in architecture and landscapes. I had an exhibition of 12 of my photographs at a cafe in Greenbelt, MD, last winter, which was a lot of fun. If you're curious, my photographs can be seen here.

I had dreamed of being on Jeopardy! since I was in high school, but never got off my hind end to figure out how to apply until a friend and former quiz bowl teammate posted a notice about the online test to Facebook a couple of years ago. I took the online test in 2009 and 2010, auditioned in person in May 2010, and taped in February 2011. I won three episodes, airing from 13 June through 16 June 2011. I lurked on the old board in the weeks prior to my taping, and showed up as a semi-regular poster afterward. I'm known in these parts for maintaining a running calculation of the odds of this year's champs making the Tournament of Champions. I originally started the calculation to figure my own odds, and quickly discovered that I didn't like the answer. I couldn't share this fact, of course, so many people figured me for four wins and were surprised when I lost to a bold and aggressive (and totally strategically correct) DD wager by one of my competitors. Competing on Jeopardy! was one of the most fun things I've ever done, and I'd happily go back to play for free.
