Was it just me, or did Trebek mispronounce Joakim Noah's first name?

Welp, the good news was that I rocked the first round, with the exception of a really awful miss on the Jets question. For some reason I thought the category was about retired numbers, saw Sanchez, and said USC. As a Jets fan I may never live this down.

DJ kicked my ass. 0/5 in Art, 2/5 in Oxides, 2/5 in Investing. Just throw in Shakespeare (which they did in the art category, to boot) and this is my nightmare board. More sports categories, please.

Anyone else miss with Doris Day on the Billie Holliday question? Dumb, I know.

Picked up the trash on Loch Ness Monster.

Got FJ in 10 seconds or so. Was thinking classic rockers until it clicked.

Beckham was the only name I recognized in Team Player.

NHO the bottom two kids' books.

How was Loch Ness a TS?

Couldn't get Lancelot or Ron Burgundy in time.

Iguazu was my only miss in Geographical.

I could've sworn blue whales had the longest gestation. What'd I miss?

How do I manage to conflate Waiting for Godot and Death of a Salesman? That's almost bad as me saying Dormouse on a Wizard of Oz clue.

====

What was supposed to lead to CO2 on Oxides for $400? The rest of the category was easier IMO. Couldn't get "soda" in time (likely because I call it "pop"), but easily got hydrogen peroxide and hypoglycemia. Surprised at "helium" as a guess, because it's kinda not an oxide, and equally surprised that "hypoglycemia" was a stand and stare.

Lach Trash on Sawbones. Could only think of "stapler…s?" on $1200, then had a derp moment. Curse you, Angry Beavers!

NHO Moneyball. Clammed on Splash and Rudy, got Airplane!, and didn't get Big Lebowski.

Investing went miles over my head.

====

Forget it. No matter what I put down, it'll be wrong. Madonna's still out there?!?!? I thought she ceased to be relevant after 1993!

Picked up Lach trash on "Loch Ness Monster", "sawbones", "hypoglycemia" and "annuities"

Instaget FJ.

I'm wondering how many people are going to miss the TOM in the FJ clue.

Dreadful DD wagering today only to be topped by a random round number worthless FJ wager. Kudos to the former champ for making an intelligent wager.

I ran 4 of the DJ categories, but I went 0 for 5 in investing. (Would have said "haircut" and "annuities" if they had been DDs, but those were just guesses and I didn't credit myself with ringing in.) Every once in a while, it becomes crystal clear to me that I need to brush up on a particular topic.

I got FJ, but I just considered it a best guess. The wording implied somebody noticeably older than Gaga and Bieber, so in addition to thinking of Madonna, performers like Cher and Barbra Streisand popped into my head. They probably make a lot of money too, but I had some vague memory that Madonna has done stuff lately. Some performers, long-lived as they are, might have not necessarily done much touring in the most recent calendar year -- although to be honest, I don't know the recent touring schedules of anybody I named, so it was ultimately a guess. But it was a guess that "felt" right -- Madonna is pretty iconic and is probably still a pretty big concert draw.

My first thought was Madonna, until I talked myself out of it figuring she was too old to be making tons of money in 2013. I went with Beyoncé.

I had the fortune of hearing the FJ list on the morning radio show here in LA. Turns out the champion just made a guess at the last minute - oh well.

Newcomers pointed me to Madonna or Cher, luckily went the right way.

Friendly hoard tonight too

I put Madonna because of "newcomers", but I could've sworn I just saw a headline the other day that said Taylor Swift was the highest paid person in music. Maybe I'm going crazy?

Picked up Loch Trosh - See what I did there? I'm hilarious! - and "hypoglycemia," "sawbones," and "nitrous oxide."
TenPoundHammer wrote:I could've sworn blue whales had the longest gestation. What'd I miss?
I mean, the right answer? Blue whales have about half the gestation period of elephants. Also, blue whale calves weigh muuuuuch much more than 220 pounds. Like, 25 times more. 2.5 metric tons.

I'm glad Gordon lost yesterday, couldn't have taken both him and Susan taking all day to call for a clue.

Instaguess FJ for me. Considered Cher and Streisand but went with Madonna for no real reason. Not sure of what Golf read into it, would have to see the answer again to figure that out. I just saw that it said it was somebody who'd been around for a while and she fit the bill.

Half of the time Alex screws up a movie quote rhythm or accent too much to appreciate it, but he honored the Airplane! line awesomely. (MOVIE QUOTES- $1600)

Hey, we're talking about one of those Davy chemists again!

I thought Beyonce was enough of an "oldcomer" to work out in FJ, plus she actually had an album in 2013, I think, and I don't think Madonna did. But I could obviously be wrong on both those last two counts.

And, I probably won't ever be on the show, but I'm still sad that I lost my chance to ever identify an Airplane! quote in a Jeopardy! game.

I got FJ because I knew that Madonna did a concert tour last year, and the ticket prices were ridiculous.

I thought of Madonna as well, but figured it had been awhile since she had any hits, so I went with Beyonce as well.
