In my experience, people snicker even more at the University of Regina. (That V sound in the "of"...)

I don't think there was one. It's just a well known book in the genre.

Oh dear. Is Phyllis E. Strawman posting again? You should really just put her on your Foe list so you won't see her posts. That's what the rest of us do. Don't assume we share her opinions just because we don't contradict her. This is honestly the first time we've seen the claim you mention.
I think a lot of people are saying a slightly toned-down version of this.
There's the one yahoo upthread who posted after my comment. Maybe Austin.
I haven't said a peep about that in this thread, but, FTR, I don't think her opponents are idiots - just bad at Jeopardy.

Plus, it was 400 and they were begging anyone, including a 13 day megachampion, to buzz in and take a flyer on it.

Um, let's see, what else fills in "Eye of the ____"? Tiger? Hurricane? Storm? Beholder?…

To tell the real outsiders, ask them to pronounce the provincial capital :P

Sorry. Didn't mean to drag you in. I had a vague memory of a link to a Subaru video which reminded me of you.

What is with these contenders they are putting up against Julia? Sirena today and that dude yesterday just guessing away any chance they had. $200 on a daily double, WTF?! Dude yesterday doing the math wrong on his bet. COME ON MAN. It's so frustrating to watch this barely >20,000/day champ go 10 games further than she should have.

Also, Julia's daily double betting is embarrassing. She could easily have over $350,000 right now.

Or the three-syllable version of "To-RON-to"... I'm disappointed we never got to hear Watson say it.

(Then again, I can't stop myself from saying Detroit as if it was a three-syllable word, so who would I be to criticize?)

I certainly posted the Subaru video. I'd call this game a good solid Impreza, with neither round finished, the multiple TSs, the triple stumper FJ, terrible betting, and the general lethargic feel. Oh, and let's not forget "I'll take the full category title name for $800, Alex."

I think it was more like a 1980 Subaru BRAT with rusty fenders. :)

I think this FJ is easier today than when the show was taped, because the Royal Society was mentioned several times on Cosmos.
Ah! Love Neil DeGrasse Tyson, but I haven't been watching Cosmos.

My choice of a commercial with a Subaru with a flat tire was very intentional

The *real* residents get it down to a syllable and a half ("SKATCH-un")

(Yes, I make fun of the Riders every chance I get, but my mother was born in Saskatchewan (moved to Winnipeg at the age of 8 months because even a little baby knows to stay away from Rider fans) and I have many, many relatives still in the province, so I do feel I'm at least an honourary Saskabusher)

RKane wrote:This is getting ridiculous. I think I might stop watching the show until she loses. She's clearly much, much smarter than she lets on (even I can't deny a 9-game streak, much less 13), but these monochrome sweaters, awkward faux-laughing noises, and demeanor which makes her come across as an unintelligent woman are bothering me more by the day. I never would have thought I'd be rooting against a 5-day champion (again, much less a 13-day champion) as I am one who tends to support people who are good at games, but I also never thought I'd have this negative of a reaction to a game show contestant.

Congratulations on making the haters like me irrelevant, I guess.
Anyone who dubs himself a "hater" overestimates his former relevancy.
